1. Before I asked this question, we did check CC Q&A. Now I would like to hear from someone who has recently been in the suite. I know Club Fusion bandstand is underneath, how bad is the noise? From what I could see from deck plans.com the balcony is smaller than D737 (which is our favorite). I decided to add this on as a b2b. Our TA put a hold on the cabin for two days, so we need to decide.

    Thanks

  2. I did not find fault with everything. Reread my post. I thought ship, the service and the food was fantastic.

Yes ,Machu Picchu was awsome, and as I mentioned the tour guide was great.

I stand by my review of how the Tour Office on the ship provided no information before the tour. I had to go ask the night before to find out what time we had to meet the following morning.

I think the op was fair in his or her review. I thought this review was more informative than the the others.

  3. I just received an e-mail saying don't arrive at the port in San Francisco before 1 o'clock for my sailing a week from Saturday. Can I safely ignore it as I always have for San Pedro? Or is San Francisco actually serious about boarding times? We generally check in early and like to be in boarding group A.

Both times we sailed from SFO, they have opened the doors at 10:30. Our bags were checked in at 9:30, we were at the check in desk by 11:00 and were on the ship at 11:45.

  4.
It may be just my perception, but it seems like when the current CEO of PCL took over the helm, decent fare deals (supplements of <200%) for solos went away. I used to be able to do TAs in inside, and occasionally OV, cabins for 150-160%,but no more. The ones I have been interested in are a straight 200% from day one, and never a fare decrease during special "sales" for solos or insides and OV, while they are being offered for cabins with 2 pax, and only in balcony or above. She's apparently all about making 'business decisions" that result in upping PCL's bottom cabins on most cruises.
. She is doing her job well, unlike Marissa Mayer at Yahoo.

  5. They have different classes of ships that are different from one another. I think the Emerald, Caribbean and Crown are in one class (could be wrong on this ... but they are similar).

Also similar to these ships are the Grand class, however, this class has an indoor pool and as I recall, the Caribbean and Crown do not.

The interior will also have slight differences, especially on the Grand.

The Island and Coral are in another class and are designed differently than the ships mentioned above. The Royal and the Regal, there might be another one now, are sister ships to one another and are designed quite differently than the other ships listed.

I have never sailed on the Diamond or Sapphire but think these are sister ships and designed a bit differently as well.

I believe they may even have some of the older ships still left in their fleet that would also be different than the others....maybe the Sun Class??

We have sailed the Crown, Golden, Star, Grand and four times on the Sapphire and Diamond. Without doubt the Gem class ships are favorite. We are so sorry that they have put them in the Far East, somewhere we have no inclination to see. I spent enough time there in the Navy.

  6. On our last cruise, (on the Grand) we were not able to get paper receipts on all our drink purchases. We have never had a problem with

Sorry, having wrong charges. We picked up a copy everyday.

  7. Hi.......new to princess. So, are they taking down folio numbers by hand or do they swipe your cabin key (like Carnival, Disney, etc)? Do you get paper receipts to keep track?

  8. So they only allowed 2 wine btls for the both of you for the B2B cruise? We sailed 5 yrs ago B2B and they allowed us to have a total of 4[1pp/wk].

Five years ago they allowed all the wine you wanted. On our 15 day to Hawaii, we took 15 bottles. (Also it was the only time we brought back wine we didn't use).

  9. Just curious, not a big issue.....

If one were to prefer traditional cocktail sauce for a shrimp cocktail, could one ask for that sauce in lieu of or in addition to the Caribbean shrimp cocktail sauce currently on the always-available appetizer menu?

I ask because my 15 year old daughter LOVES her shrimp cocktail and on past cruises has had one every night before dinner. Every. Single. Night. I don't know how she doesn't tire of them.

Again, it's not a big deal, but I am curious.

    Thanks!

My DW has one or two every night, and would be upset if they took it off.

  10. I HATE when the media uses those words "fell off". People actually believe it can happen! He is a jumper!

And it's not just a Fox News thing. They ALL do it

No legit news agency will ever call a death a suicide until investigators use it as the cause of death. They might say investigators are investigating a possible suicide, if officials report that.

  11. Good info, but it doesn't address the fact that many have unpunched brown cards with no writing on the back who want to use the cards for fresh brewed coffee (without a punch)...

It's not fair to Princess to keep a coffee card good forever, if that is what your asking for. You buy a coffee card for specific voyage, and if there are any punches left, you can get regular coffee with punches.

  12. Actually, they now have these little things called "tablets" that connect to the ship's computer wirelessly. I saw them being used by some of the crew on the Royal Princess recently. (Gosh, even this old coot has one!;)) THAT is what I meant about putting it into the computer. You certainly would not have to go to guest services. Do it with the same tables they now use.

[emoji3][emoji3] I don't understand how people can't figure out that things change. It is so simple. This old coot has one also.

  13. Correct. The price for gelato is 1 punch for three scoops on the Regal and Royal and 1 punch for one scoop on the Emerald. BIG difference.

Three times the price. :( I'm not sure about any quality difference.

When is Princess going to be consistent. Consistently is one our complaints with Princess. You can't have one ship doing one thing, and another doing something else.

  14. It's a possibility that they would do it that way to eliminate using "punches" on another cruise.

Using your pun...I would also not purchase a coffee card if the perk of using remaining punches on another cruise was not valid.

I'm with you. I can learn to like the syrup coffee, for 10 to 14 days. We put coffemate in it anyway.

  15. In the August 2015 Captain's Circle Magazine they described their "New Grounds Crafted Coffee" program.

"Princess has partnered with the American Barista & Coffee School in Portland, Oregon, to ensure barista's on board are specially trained to provide a premium coffee experience. Caffe Boasi beans from Genoa, Italy, will be used to brew all specialty-crafted coffee" .

I'm not worried about the older cars no longer being valid because the playing card version was still usable after the brown Café Selects card was implemented.

The servers ( at the coffee bar) that were on the Grand in November, were the worst we have had. They have a attitude that made it clear they had a captive audience, that you couldn't go else where.

I should say only one of the servers had that attitude, but I would go every morning at 5, so he was the only one that was there. It started the first morning when I gave him a 2.00 top for two regular coffees. He made a joke about it with another employee, he never got another one.

  16. Right now on the Riviera all the doors to all the public washrooms are open all the time.

If restrooms are designed properly, their isn't a need for a door. The one time I had to use a public restroom on the Regent Mariner, I had to use a paper towel to open the door.

  17. Yes, back in November or December during the crossing from Europe. in addition, the ship had the virus on the following cruise and possibly beyond. I'm sure others that know more can elaborate or you can do a search

Just heard again from my friend that all passengers have to show their keycards to enter any of the dining venues as some paxs that are sick are sneaking out of their rooms!!! unreal.

    Nancy

Instead of showing your card, have a machine where you put your card in. If your not supposed to be out of your room, a nice noise maker and security to escort you back, might stop those who want to escape. Embarrassment can be a mighty deterrent.

  18. I just disembarked the Crown Princess today and wanted to write a quick review. Super short version- The Crown Princess and the crew was great as was the food. I met some fun people!! Some people I’ll be happy to not see again. My hypothesis is that your enjoyment of your trip is directly proportional to your attitude. If your attitude sucks, so will your trip.

-Embarkation was good, very organized. A couple people just had to be on the ship 30 seconds ahead of everyone else and felt the need to cut…twice. They cut, got out of line then came back and cut again.

-The Curtis Stone dishes were not on the menu yet so I had the Salmon and Tri tip while I could. :D

-There was not a Pub Lunch on the sailing.

-They had the Gastro Pub for $19 per person, I didn’t try it.

-They are trying a new program where 2 Cruise Directors are on the ship. One is “the face” of the ship and was more present at the shows, game shows and other events. The other one is the “behind the scenes” person who dealt with scheduling, management etc. Dan Appleby was “Cruise Director” and Sam Hawker Thomas was the “Entertainment Director”. They both came to the Meet and Greet and were very fun and helpful. The customer service manager also came by a bit later to spend time with us as well. I’m holding a cat that missed me and refuses to let me put her down to look up his name. He was leaving the ship today to go on vacation.

-To me, the food was good. It’s rare I try something on Princess that I don’t like.

-During lunch on boarding day, the ship lost power for a short period of time. I really like Captain Justin Lawes. There was a fire on this ship last May when I was on a cruise in Alaska. He was exceptional both times at broadcasting updates and explaining what happened. There was also a false alarm for a fire while sailing out of Ensenada. Once it was confirmed as a false alarm, he shared what had happened. He excels at updating passengers and remaining calm while efficiently handling situations. I didn’t get to see him on this cruise but spent some time talking with him last cruise.

-I don’t think being a pier runner is cute if you have a kid with you. There was a female in Ensenada with a kid (maybe 8 or so) who arrived after all aboard. She was yelling and cheering herself all the way onboard that she made it. The people on deck and on their balconies didn’t say a word.

-If team Rootberry is on your cruise, go see them as they are funny and very talented. They mix comedy and juggling and one is also a sword swallower. They are also very nice and friendly guys. On a cruise last year, they performed in the Atrium. Now they have their own show night in the theater which is wonderful because they are very talented. I saw them in Catalina and told them I thought they were awesome. It was before they performed so I think they were confused a minute until I told them I saw them on a previous cruise :D

-Go see Magic to Do!!! It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen at sea. There is one part that may be disturbing to kids and they announce that at the beginning.

-I also really like the comedian Carlos Oscar. I’ve been on a few cruises he performed on and really enjoy his performances. I’ve also had a couple conversations with him and he’s a very nice person as well. It really says something that his shows are so enjoyable (even the jokes I’d heard him tell before) without resorting to swearing every other word. Actually he doesn’t swear at all.

-The Kamikaze Fireflies are performing in the atrium. They are also comedy jugglers and were fun and full of energy.

-I’d been to Catalina before a couple times so just walked around and bought a dress. The golf carts were $30-40 an hour from the places I looked at the signs for. There were also zip lining, snorkeling, kayak, diving and boating excursions available in town. The town of Avalon is very walkable with lots of fun shops and beautiful views.

-I’d also been to Ensenada several times. I’ve done the wine tasting, Bufadora, horseback riding and zip lining and was looking for something else. Someone on the roll call mentioned a massage place so that’s what I decided to go with after reading their reviews on trip advisor and seeing where they were. They offer massage and facial services with varying prices. I did a 1-hour massage for $40. My only regret is I didn’t get a 2-hour massage because it was the best massage I’ve ever had…sorry ex boyfriends   The place is Massage and Facial Care at 743 Lopez Mateos. If you walk out of the pier, turn left toward downtown. Cross the street at a stoplight unless you like playing frogger and have faith in other drivers. Turn right at the street where Mc Donald’s is. Turn right at the next block and it’s about ½ a block down on the left. Their hours are 9:30am- 7 pm. You can make an appointment with them but I was undecided so just walked in.

-There’s also an awesome stained glass shop a couple doors down. If you haven’t been there before I’d take the $3 shuttle to town. They sell tours on the shuttle that are much less expensive than the ship tours including the Bufadora only, the zip line and Bufadora, horseback riding and Bufadora, or you can combine all three. The zip line was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it. The horseback ride was ok but they hold the reins and walk the horses up and down the beach.

-I’ve yet to watch a whole movie on a cruise ship but recall some of what was shown on MUTS. They played one of the Minions movies, The Hunger Games and a Bon Jovi Concert.

-If you haven’t been in the aft (adults only) pool, it’s 5’5” deep. I’m 5’7”. I’m Elite on Princess but this is the first time I ever actually got in the aft pool haha. So my choices were sit on the steps, hold onto the poles and float, or work for it. I did find some nice folks to chat with and stayed in about an hour.

-I frequently get an inside cabin and turn on the bridge camera channel so when the sun rises, it does as well in my cabin. About 5 am this morning, I work up and the screen was white. I thought the camera was broken. I woke again at 7am, still white. I set my alarm to give me 30 more minutes since I was all packed and wanted a tiny bit more sleep. When I finally got up and went to the buffet I saw that the camera wasn’t broken, it was super foggy! So while this is a good trick, it doesn’t always work hahaha.

-I watched some more Love Boat episodes. I do love watching them when I want to relax a bit in the cabin.

-Disembarkation was interesting. I went to the Platinum/Elite lounge and about 2 minutes after I sat down and about an hour before my disembark time of 10am. They said we could leave if we wanted if we had carry on only. I had carry on only so away I went but there was a very long line for customs so it was odd that they were letting us off with such a long line.

    - My little PSA and opinion- treat others the way you want to be treated. The crew members are not our personal servants and not there to put up with rude and disrespectful behavior. They are there to do their job and most of them go above and beyond to help us enjoy our cruise. Yes, that means I had words with someone who was a total jerk to a crew member. I’ve done it before and I’d do it again. I’m getting mean haha. I also talked to the crew member’s manager in case the jerk went to her boss. He told me he apologized to her. Alcohol sometimes helps makes manners go away and I hope he did apologize.

If anyone has questions, I’ll try to answer them. I do have the patters so when the cat allows me to move  I can look things up.
