  1. Hey Serene - yes this will be our first experience with Princess:) Have you been on Princess before? I really, really, really want to do the Chef's Table. Understand that as soon as we board I should call and put our name in. I'm sure Princess will be more elegant than Carnival (wine to beer;)) but we've never had a bad time on Carnival. Since we get the military rate - we can't beat the price.

We've done Princess twice and did the Chef's table on the Golden last year. It was one of the most amazing dining experiences ever!

This will be our first Carnival cruise and I know it won't be the same, as we're doing an ov rather than a caribe deck balcony. Just looking forward to being at sea!

  2. Thanks for this wonderful review and your great pictures. We're looking forward to Valor in July for my birthday! And your comments comparing them, or rather not comparing Carnival to other lines is well- taken. We're cruising on Destiny, our first Carnival cruise, at Christmas. I'll remember not to compare her to any other ships!

  3. Just got back from our cruise and I had to come tell you about this excursion. In a word it was fantastic!! There were 3 people on our ship (Enchantment of the Seas) heading to cook along with the rest of the people going on the Playa Mia Beach Break excursion. When we met at the end of the pier, the person leading us had the 3 of us walk in front of the line and directed us to head to the pink building when we arrived at Playa Mia. We did so, and arrived to find the rest of the "chefs" (all from a Carnival excursion) and Luis and Moises waiting for us. We were directed right to our cooking station and started.

Drinks were plentiful and very good. Water, daiquiris, margaritas- whatever you wanted. Luis was absolutely adorable, and he really liked the young girl who was cooking at my station. He spent a lot of time at our area, and was just great with the three of us.

We started making our dessert, so that it could chill in the fridge. Then we went on to make the side dish ( a stuffed banana pepper) and the main dish- the fish is a large piece of grouper, and if you didn't like fish, you could have the "iguana" (which no one chose). Luis walked us through all of the steps of preparing the fish, then taught us to decorate our plates. When we were done there was a decorated table for us to take pictures at. We then went on to the appetizer then completed the meal with the assembly of the dessert. All this while drinking margaritas! We also had a shot of tequila (which i should have avoided, but...)

When everything was finished cooking, we went upstairs to the dining room and ate our meal, which was delicious. While upstairs, a woman came around to sell us the picture they'd taken of our cooking station. I purchased mine- $12 without a frame, $22 with the frame. We were provided with the recipes for the food we'd cooked, and a personal send-off from Luis.

Then we were able to use all the facilities at Playa Mia, which is a lovely beach with lots to do. We could have had any type of beverage on the beach- we opted for cold water. We hung around until 3:15, when we had been directed to return to the bus area for return to the ship. The a/c bus arrived and we returned to the ship by about 4.

I would highly recommend this excursion if you like to cook. We will be back in Coz in April and I plan to do it again with my sister, while my bil and nephews enjoy the facilities at Playa Mia.

  4. Stillfloatin--

I emailed Eduardo to find out where they moved the massages too and he sent me an email and confirmed that they have indeed removed the spot to another location.

The reason whey they moved it from the beach was because they rec'd several complaints about the privacy. So to satisfy their customers they moved the massages to a cabana behind where Carmen greets customers. So now when you go and get your massage it is private and you don't have to worry about anybody seeing you.

That's too bad. I've had 2 massages at Uvas on the beach and they were both wonderful. No one ever watched, and if they did... Oh well!

  5. Hi I am also traveling on that date. I have only sailed on Liberty of the Seas. I hope a smaller ship will not be disappointing. I couldn't afford the prices for Liberty this year. Are you on a roll call? Tina.

    Hi Tina,

We do have a roll call for the July 12 cruise. Stop by and join us. We've got a meeting time and location all set up! Hope to see you then.

This will be our second time on Enchantment and we can't wait. She's a wonderful ship!

  6. I'm so excited to read about this excursion! My dh is planning to scuba dive and I figured I'd head to the beach by myself but this sounds like a whole lot more fun.

Do you think he'd be able to take a cab to Playa Mia to meet me when he's done diving? Can you just pay an entrance fee and walk on the beach or do you have to have reservations?

  7. Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that Uvas is as wonderful as ever. My daughters and I were there last Sat. and were greeted by Carmen and Eduardo as if we were family. We secured our beach bed and went off the have our massages. The weather was very hot and humid, but the breeze off the ocean was lovely.

Had a minor issue with flies, as they seemed to come out of nowhere and swarm us while we were eating. :( The staff did all they could to try to get rid of them, but it caused a real problem for my daughter so we didn't stay as long as we would have otherwise.

However, it was a wonderful day and I'm sorry I don't have another trip scheduled!

    Happy New Year!

  8. Just 6 days left until my return to Playa Uvas. Bringing my daughters this time. We can't wait to be greeted by Carmen and have our margaritas and massages! I've done nothing but tell the girls (who both had big birthdays in the past month- 18 and21!!!) about how great everyone is since I spent the day there in July for my birthday!!

I'll write another wonderful review, I'm sure, when we return and will post some pictures.

Can't wait to see you all there!!!

  9. Hello everyone!!

Well, I'm back from Uvas and have to tell you what a wonderful time we had. The Caribbean Princess docked at Punta Langosta at about 9:30 and by 10:30 my husband and I took a cab from the pier and arrived at Uvas about 20 minutes later. (The cab is a bargain at $10!) When we got there, Carmen checked us in and it was like meeting an old friend. Our name was on the board welcoming us (noting my birthday as well) and Carmen took us to meet our waiter Raul and set up my massage with Luz. We had booked the clear kayak tour, so we sat on the beach until it was time to go out.

Upon returning from kayaking I met Luz for my 30 minute massage. OH MY GOODNESS! What a massage!! I have to tell you that it was even better than the much more expensive one I had on the ship!! Luz is a wonderful person, as well, very sweet and friendly. I can't recommend her enough. and getting a massage on the beach with the sound of the ocean... Well, what more can I say!!

After our massage we had lunch- Steve had the chicken fajitas and I had the fish fillet. Delicious! And the margaritas were fantastic as well. Water was plentiful, as was soda. Then Carmen and Raul brought out a wonderful, very large birthday cake for me!! What a surprise! Fortunately some of our Cruise Critic friends from the ship were there to share it with us!

As you can tell, we had a fabulous time at Playa Uvas and would recommend it to anyone! We'll be back in Cozumel in December with our daughters and have already let Carmen know!

(I have some pictures, including the hammocks, and will download them later and let you know!)

  10. I've been to both!

...and both are lovely places to spend some beach time. Both have great food and service.

Since personal preference is so hard to determine...different strokes for different folks!...why not check in on both in July? That way you could see first hand which better suits your purposes for your December trip.

Just hop off of the ship in Cozumel and take a taxi. Stop at Playa Uvas and check out their facilities, jump back into a readily available taxi, and then continue on to Paradise Beach. You can still fit in some shopping before you have to get back onboard.

Sounds like a good idea! Thanks.

"other Lisa"- sounds like you're all set. Didn't realize it was you!! Did you make reservations online? I'm trying to decide which beach will be best when the girls join us in Dec.

  11. Have any of you been to both beaches? If so, do you have a preference? My husband and I are going to be there in July then again with our daughters (21 and 18) in December. We're scoping out the beaches in July for them. PB has no entrance fee, but if Uvas is better, we'll try there.

    Thoughts, anyone?
