  1. We rented from Hertz at the airport last week.  Was able to book when we docked, take a cab to the airport ($35 one way) and be on our way.  We had reserved a car using the Turo app and paid extra to have it delivered to the port.  Joemilo cancelled on us the night before we docked in Juneau, so found out about it when we were leaving the ship once I had Internet service.

  2. We rented a car from Icy Strait Lodge on our recent cruise.  Had a good time looking for bears out in the woods on logging roads.  Did not see any bears, but was able to answer the question.

The answer is:  No.  They do it on the dirt road and then hide when you drive by.

Super nice folks to deal with at the Icy Strait Lodge.  They gave us a map and a can of bear spray and pointed us in the right direction to seek bears.

    Hi everyone

For those who have rented cars from the Juneau airport, can you tell me how you got to the airport from the cruise port, the length of time it took by your chosen method and how much it cost.

    Thank you!

Had planned to take a taxi until I stumbled on a car share app yesterday.  It is called Turo and looks legit.  I rebooked with Marcos to rent his 2019 Jeep Cherokee.  Saved about $90 on the rental itself and he will drop it off near the dock, or leave it near the dock with a keybox and code.  When done, I just park it in that area and will come get it.  Drop-off cost me $40, which is still cheaper than roundtrip cab ride as I understand it.

  4. Simple solution to the chair hogs issue.  We are sailing Sept. 4th on Quantum.  Some friends of ours are the cruise right before ours.  I am having them put my towels and some magazines down on 4 chairs next to the pool right when they get off the ship so the chair hogs wont get them before I get there.

  5. Anyone get wine delivered to your hotel room near SEATAC.  Flying in the day before the cruise, and want to order online and have it brought to the hotel.  Total Wine website says they will do it.  There are 4 of us, so 4 bottles should be worth the delivery fee?

  6. We rented a car the last time we were there a few years ago.  From what I can tell, the only place to get a car now is from the airport which is about a $25 cab ride as I understand it.  We met a another couple from our ship at the rental counter as we took the last car.  We invited them to come with us since there were no more cars.  Turned out they had the same last name as us and were from Texas as well.  We had a good time.

The car was handy to get to the glacier and do some riding around, but ultimately got in way after that.  Hard to find parking near the other stuff we wanted to do and ended up walking anyway.  Thinking this year, we will just do the bus and save the effort.

  7. I'm with you on the balcony drink thing (after all, I have to have something to do while the wife gets ready for dinner etc.). I have thrown a bottle or two in my suitcase a few times and only been caught once (New Orleans). And even then, they didn't get it all............lol. I went to the naughty room on the last day of the cruise with head held high and retrieved my still sealed bottles. They had a few bottles with no room numbers on them, but it was cheap crap or I would have taken that too..............lol. By far, the easiest and best deal was the drink package on Princess. It made it so much easier and enjoyable. Plus, I got to try some really nice drinks that otherwise I might have passed on because of the price. Since my wife does not drink, Carnivals policy of making both people in the room pay for the program makes it financially unattractive (I can drink that much, but none of you would want to be on the same boat with me..........lol). We have also paid full price for each drink on 1 cruise with no package and no smuggling. I'm not up for another $400 bar bill. On this next trip, I plan to toss a few small bottles (single drink size) to cover my balcony drinks. I'll pay for the rest of them.

The miniatures worked great. Between my wife, daughter and son-in-law, we probably brought about 40 drinks on board. The Baileys made the buffet coffee drinkable and we all took Yetis for our mixed drinks. Wife brought her 12 pack of coke and I stole a few of them. If you are going to try the mini thing, do not be tempted to buy the "pocket shots". I bought about 20 of them and brought 19 home that are still sitting in the cabinet. Very bad liquor. You are better off finishing other peoples drinks that they leave in the casino. Be sure to remove the cigarette butts first.

This next cruise, I opted for the "all I can drink" package on RCI. We just had some extra money this trip and decided to treat ourselves.

  9. I guess I'm just lucky... I get mine from the parking lot of Walmart :)

I go looking for that little old lady w/ the ice chest...

Whenever I go to Mexico I have to get off the tourist strip to eat. I'm spoiled by having great Mexican food in my area.

If you sit in the right bar long enough in Houston, that little old lady with the ice chest will find you.

  10. On a cruise to Cozumel a few years ago, we stopped at Fat Tuesday's in the main square for a drink. We decided to go somewhere for lunch. A local man was eagerly petitioning us to visit his shop, which was several blocks away. I asked him to guide us to a restaurant (Somewhere he would go). He walked us down several backstreets to a hole in the wall place where we got the best food of our trip. The guy sat out on the curb waiting for us to finish so that he could take us to his store. Halfway thru lunch, I realized that we had left our bag with ship ID's, towels, camera, some cash and other stuff at Fat Tuesday's. I figured it was long gone, so finished eating, went to the guys shop, bought some silver jewelry from him and started back to the ship. As we were walking thru the square, the bartender at Fat Tuesday waived at me and pointed to the chair where I left my bag. It was still sitting there, almost 3 hours later. He had watched it for us the entire time. I ordered another drink from him and gave him a $20 tip.
