1. We have eaten at Sabatini's twice since the menu change. Most of the entrees are uninspiring. I grew up in the Midwest and don't have Pam's east coast expectations. Even with that, the only decent part of the lobster three ways is the lobster risotto. We have tried the strip steak and the veal chops and they were both bearly edible. I think that Princess needs to rethink Sabatini's big time. The Italian theme may be an homage to the Sitmar heritage as probably is the Italian night dinner in the dining room but maybe the venue should go in a totally new direction. We ate there twice with the old menu and found most of the "little bit" mediocre at best. I had hopes for the new menu but it is not much better.

I would MUCH rather go to Alfredo's than Sabatini's and that's due to food preference, not cost.

I've been to the Crown Grill on several different ships and really enjoyed it.

I agree that it maybe time to re-think Sabitini's and I do think it's something they are considering.

Pam first wrote a while ago about where can you get a steak dinner such as the CG for $25 and I really took that to heart. Also, if you do like lobster, most waiters or head waiters in the CG will also give you as many lobster tails as you want and they seem much better than the ones in Sabitini's.

I always get the same thing in the CG: scallops & bacon appetizer, blue onion soup, rib eye steak, a few tails, garlic french fries, & the choc lava cake.

OMG, now I'm really hungry and I just finished my dinner.

  2. Pam, I want to try the CG on the Royal but will wait and see what my friends want to do. One friend is doing the TA portion with me and another friend is doing the Baltic portion with me.

Like you I am totally done with Sabitini's. Went on the Crown last summer but it didn't cost me anything - the only reason I went.

  3. I also think your experience was unacceptable, especially the cold coffee, not re-filling water etc. I am not crazy about Sabitini's new menu and think the CG is a much better deal.

I was on the Grand in Jan. and the head waiter in the CG was the same head waiter in Sabitini's on a previous cruise. I was in a suite that cruise so when I was on the Grand he immediately remembered me. I ate 3 nites in the CG on the Grand because I really enjoy that menu. Janus told me that bookings/revenue from Sabitini's is down fleet wide and they are considering some big changes in regards to that particular venue. Whether that ever comes to fruition is yet to be seen.

  4. I don't know whether I should call Princess or just wait. I do remember having these same issues before and it was fixed eventually. But I'm one of those guarantee peeps waiting on a cabin assignment. Many on my roll call got assignments yesterday so inquiring minds want to know!!!

  5. I was just trying to log on to my CP and have my user name & password saved so I don't have to re-enter all the time. All of a sudden this afternoon, it is no longer recognizing my info and when I put in my email address to send the password, it says I've never registered.

Anyone else having problems getting logged on to Princess?

  6. Sorry phrased my comment very badly. I agree it is common to get placed in a higher level in the booked category.

I was referring to upgrades to higher catergories, like balcony to mini-suite, etc. Also, if you are going to get inside to oceanview, or oceanview to balcony they will say so at the time of sale by offering 'balcony for the price of oceanview'.

Sorry if my reply was not clear. You were right to correct me.

Having said that, it would appear that sssteele has frequently beaten my perception of the 'rules', so maybe I do have it wrong. It has just never happened to me when we make a late booking a guaranteed balcony (normally when we are booked in either a full suite or mini-suite on the following cruise)

    Leventurian (aka Corfe Mixture)

yes, i agree with you there.

  7. Unless anyone can report differently, it is my undersatanding that you are unlikely to be upgraded if, on a previous cruise, you have paid for a higher grade than you have booked on this cruise.

The logic of this is, I believe, is that far from seeing upgrading as a reward for regular passengers, they instead see upgrading as a marketing tool and a tempter to introduce folks to a higher grade of cabin in the hope that, next time, they will book and pay for a higher grade.

As someone else has already said, they have this down to a science and there is a lot of logic in this approach, which is why, if you are staying on for the next cruise, on changeover day, you can always get the future cruise manager to show you the higher grade 'cabins'.

Totally disagree. Book guarantee quite frequently and usually end up with an upgrade to the highest level in that particular category ex: IF to IA. I am 13 days out from a cruise on the Royal (4/27) and have not received a cabin yet either. This is one of the latest assignments I've had in a while.

  8.
The window suites on all three ships are on Deck 6, starboard, forward. The casino on the Golden is what is in a different location - Deck 7, rather than Deck 6. The smoke infiltrating into the hallway for the Window Suites on the Grand and Caribbean is not a problem if the forward door to the hallway for the suites remains closed. When it is propped open, it can get smokey in that hallway.

We are looking forward to being back on board her in May of 2015 for an Alaskan b2b with our family along for celebrations. :D We have a real soft spot for the Grand as we were married aboard her.
The casino is on deck 7 on the Caribbean, not 6, and the smoke does not effect the WS. I was in a WS last April on the CB for the TA and if you ask the steward to keep the doors closed at the end of the hallway, you don't get any smells from anywhere.
  9. The Grand has a very large comfortable smoking area on deck 15 aft, outside the club One 5, up the stairs from the aft pool. You can also smoke in the front on 16 by the Outrigger bar, in the casino, and in the sports bar on deck 6 between the casino and the Princess theater. Hope this helps.

  10. There was just an email posted from Princess CS the other day(4/9) to someone on a similar thread that STILL stated everyone in the room had to purchase the drink package. The info is all over place, even from Princess!!

  11. I can happily confirm that this in fact is being sold on the Caribbean Princess on their shorter cruises 3/4 nighters. I just bought a package for my hubby for our upcoming weekend cruise over Memorial Day Weekend :) I was able to prepay so the bill will be paid before we even set sail. :p

That's really strange. This is an email from Princess CS yesterday stating the exact opposite:

    Subject: Re: Unlimitted Beverage Package

Thank you kindly for your inquiry regarding your future travel plans aboard a Princess Cruise ship.

As per your inquiry about a package offer for unlimited adult beverages, we are excited to share with you that we have successfully rolled out a similar program that we currently refer to as

"All-Inclusive Beverage Package". At this time, current sales of the All-Inclusive beverage package to individuals only takes place aboard the ship. Princess is currently assessing this program and we are hoping to make it available pre-cruise or via the cruise-personalizer and special services in the near future.

Pricing currently is set at USD $49 + 15% gratuity per person, per day. Princess reserves the rights for changes on this packages, including the price.

Current conditions to this program. (Subject to change)

Packages can only be purchased on a full-voyage basis

Packages are only available on voyages 7 days in length or long

All adult passengers travelling together in a stateroom must purchase the all-inclusive package.

Minors linked to adults purchasing the package (whether in the same or separate stateroom) must purchase the 'Unlimited Soda & More' package (Children 6 years and under are exempt).

  12. Jewel is Royal Carib not NCL. And while we LOVE Princess it is definitely not Elite or Suite perks that keep us coming back. If you break it down they really aren't "blow you away" perks. The Radiance Class ships are among our favorites.

I think Princess has the best loyalty program in mass market cruising.

I am not into rock climbing walls, mini golf, video arcades, or cruising with lots of kids, which you find on RCL in the summer. Still a no brainer for me.

  13. We are loyal Princess cruisers (Elite card holders) and cruise 3-4 times a year, mostly on Princess. We are booked on b2b's on the CB in August (PS 749) and also b2b's on the Jewel (OS 1560)...same dates. Now we have to decide. The itinerary on the Jewel is much better but we love aft PS cabins on the CB. So its a tough decision. Any opinions?

It would be a no brainer for me, why would you fore go your elite benefits on princess to cruise on NCL, which IMHO and many Princess regulars is an inferior product????

  14. We had a sideways cabin on Star last year and although more spacious I did not like it. I did not like walking into the bed when coming in and out of the cabin. I heard much more noise which meant I felt more inhibited while in the cabin;) since I figured I could hear noise in the hallway, people can hear us in our cabin! I do not mind the regular inside cabins and set back on the wall I felt it was more private!

i've booked the cheapest guarantee for my upcoming 26 day Royal cruise but I totally agree with with what you've said since i travel solo. I'm not sure i would be totally comfortable with the door opening right into the main area. The little hallway does give you more privacy. i would have to remember to keep the dead bolt secured. I'll just have to wait and see what cabin they give me.

  15. We sail on the Royal TA to Copenhagen in 27 days. Many balconies are still available in all areas of the ship, but the price has not taken a post-last payment day nosedive yet. Pricing has remained the same for over 6 months now. The price was actually lower a year ago and then it went up about 25% and has stayed constant. Anyone with the courage to wait may get a real nice bargain soon on the Royal TA.

I am also booked on the above Royal cruise B2B with the Baltic which has been sold out for quite a while as well as those legs disembarking in Germany and St. Petersburg. It's only the TA portion that has so many unsold cabins. I booked a guarantee and still waiting for cabin assignment.

  16. Camera and photo prices on the ships are retail so all you're saving is sales tax and there is no elite 10% discount. You can do MUCH better @ B&H or Beach Camera, no sales tax if you're out of state, and free shipping most of the time.

Photo equipment and supplies on the ship are for emergency purposes or strictly impulse buyers.

  17. The point is that yesterday's offer was a full refund and a 25%fcc in any case! get off or stay on. Very generous, in fact maybe too generous. Today it was 50% if you stay 125%

if you leave in two hours. If the current offer had been made yesterday it would have been

    more generous than required.

Oops, more communication. Found more oil, port will be closed until at least tomorrow.

Official communication from Santa Clarita expected in an hour maybe.

I'm here for the duration anyway.

It was my understanding the offer made yesterday was with the assumption the ship could leave for a shortened cruise today and if someone agreed to short cruise, they would get 50% off and 25% of a future cruise. The 100% off would be if people chose to disembark today.

I'm not sure why people are complaining, if you stay on the ship you're eating using all services etc so why shouldn't you have to pay?? Get real people - you want to stay on the ship for free plus get a huge discount on another cruise????

I really don't know what everyone is complaining about?? Princess has no control over this - they get different information constantly from the port authority and CG. If you agree to stay on the ship to wait and see what happens, then you should pay regardless - your choice!!!!

  18. I would now put some money on this cruise being cancelled and passengers will be disembarking in the am. They need to get those 2 ships back in the harbor and let those people get off before they worry about letting this ship get out on what now would be a very short cruise.

I'm sure it's all up to the CG and they will inform Princess what's going to happen and what it needs to do, not the other way around. Too bad, sounds like they need to give up on Houston as a port - too many issues. Sorry guys.
