  1. Wow! There are a lot of angry people posting here. I have never cruised Regent Seven Seas. I am here for the first time researching a possible cruise on Navigator this fall. BUT if there is brown water coming out of the tap, and staff says there's nothing they can do about it, and seasoned Navigator passengers say not to worry about it, I'm re-thinking this supposedly upscale line! If you're paying that much money for a cruise, they damned well better have crystal clear water! There are no excuses. They should dry-dock the vessel until they correct the problem.

And to everyone who posted about well water being rust colored and nothing to worry about. . . I'm no engineer and I'm no sailor. BUT I'm pretty sure this ship does not have a well. So any comparison to well water seems kind of foolish. Just one guy's opinion.

I think I'll go see if Seabourn and Crystal offer passengers brown water.

  2. I am a long time cruiser on mass market ships, looking for my first upscale sail. I have narrowed down my choices to a Seabourn Legend and a Regent Seven Seas Navigator cruise. I have some questions about Seabourn and your answers may help me with my decision.

    1. Complimentary wines on board -- do they include champagne? If not what are the upcharges for fine wines and champagnes?

    2. I'm a Crown Royal drinker. Is that included in the complimentary beverage list, or is there an upcharge for cocktails with premium liquors?

    3. Many Balconies on Legend appear to be French balconies, with no seating space. Am I reading this wrong, or do Balcony Staterooms really have a balcony?

    4. I'm thinking about the 7 Day Caribbean Skies itinerary. How often can I expect the water sports deck to be deployed?

    5. My wife is enchanted with the idea of waiters wading through the water to deliver champagne and caviar. Do they really do that? Where? I'd hate to plan a shore excursion and miss that.

    6. Speaking of caviar, is it available on board as an appetizer or at any other time? Is there an upcharge?

    7. We've never been on a ship as small as Legend (10,000 tons). Are the public areas confining?

    8. Do passengers frequently get invited to dine with officers or cruise staff?

    9. Is there one WOW factor I'm forgetting to ask about to make me say YES to Seabourn?

Thank you so much, in advance for your advice and answers.

  3. I didn't intend to sound snarky (don't know what that word means, but I gotta admit I like it ).

Guess I am just baffeled that if something is so expensive, unless one is required, why one would still buy it. It's a photo...not exactly a necessity like food.

My sincere apoligies if I offended you, but I didn't intend to sound nasty.

Gunther -- You did sound snarky. . . but you were quite the gentleman in apologizing. And you're right, snarky is such a cool word! So allow me to snark for a moment!

Even the $25 8x10s they push on you during portrait nights are overpriced in my mind. AND YET -- I end up buying 5-6 of them every cruise.

No-one holds a gun to my head. However, my daughter and her mom insist they have to have them. . . which may be worse than someone holding a gun to my head!! :D Just saying!

  4. Doing a 10 day Western Med next summer with a teenager. I think by the time we hit Palma de Mallorca, she'll be tired of museums, churches, and ancient ruins. I truly hope she'll be bored with shopping!

Does anyone have a suggestion for more adventurous things I can do with my 17-year-old? I'm thinking of stuff like horseback riding, snorkeling, sailing charters, ATVs, jet skis, etc.. She's not a big hiker.

If you've done these kind of activities and have names and web links of tour operators, that would be awesome. Also please tell me how you liked the excursion.

    Thanks!

  5. These are NOT neat gadgets. . . just things I've picked up from experience.

Extra camera batteries and film or memory card. They are really expensive on board or in port!

Water cameras are much cheaper at WalMart or target than on board.

Water shoes or aqua socks cost $10-$12 at home. They will save your feet if you are walking on a rocky beach or a really really hot deck!

Faux candle if you want a little mood lighting on your balcony. Real candles do not stay lit very well and cruise lines frown upon open flames!

  6. We had a GREAT time with Boomer Esiasan (football QB turned sportscaster) on a Disney cruise. very down to earth.

Also partied with an actress from one of Tom Hanks earlier films (Bachelor Party), but can't remember her name. She played a stripper. That was aboard a Royal Cruise in Europe.

Spent some time with the voice of Arielle from Disney animated "Little Mermaid" (can't remember her name either) on a second Disney Cruise. Also very nice woman.

Eddie Murphy was aboard another cruise -- but I didn't get to meet him.

Most celebrities who cruise are much like we are. They're either looking for a little R & R OR they're working on the cruise.
