  1. We will be on The Royal Princess in July and are looking for a good Beatles Tour. Can you recommend one??? Also, what else do you suggest we see in Liverpool??????Happy St George's Day!!

Hi Partymaker. I can't really recommend any particular tour, as I've never done one myself. However, if you get yourself a large pot of coffee, you could read through the thread to see all of the information that has been posted. You will almost certainly find what you are looking for there. If you still have some questions then don't hesitate to post them back on here. And of course you have Phabric's personal recommendation above too. :)

  2. We had a great Beatle tour with http://www.pooloflifetours.com in 2013.

I talked to some passengers who had taken the Princess Beatle tour and asked did they see Ringo's house, she replied, it was pointed out to us as we drove by. As they were in a big coach they did not up close as we did since we were in a small van. We got out of the van a few times to see different places.

    Highly recommend.

Great answer from someone who has experienced it themselves. Cheers, Phabric :)

  3. As an alternative to HOHO, what do you think of the CumfyBus? From what I can see on their website, it looks like they a few routes that stop right by the cruise terminal. It sounds like it costs £3 for an all day pass and they run more frequently.

Also, on this site http://www.whatsinport.com/Liverpool.htm, it says there is a free shuttle to the city center. Can you confirm this?

    Thanks

I don't know anything about the Cumfy Bus, sorry, other than it's how my mother gets to and from the supermarket near her home! I think of the Cumfy Bus as a shoppers' bus rather than a tourist thing, but maybe you can use it? Personally, I would only use any form of transport if I had mobility issues. Liverpool really is a city for walking. As for the free shuttle, it certainly says that on the website, so it must be true :-)

  4. Since we have a long port day and are both active walkers, is it better to walk rather than take the HOHO? I was assuming things would be spread out, so the HOHO would be easier, but if things are in a compact area, we much prefer walking. I need to go back and read this thread to get your advice on the best things to see and do in Liverpool.

Much easier and more productive if you can walk, in my view. We recently had visitors from Long Island and we walked all over. Liverpool is very compact. Yes, get a (large) cup of coffee and work your way through the six years worth of posts. I'm sure you'll find something. If you still have any questions then come back and ask on here. :)

  5. We will be stopping in Liverpool in July on the Royal Princess and are considering the HOHO bus to see the sights. Where can you pickup the HOHO bus and is it convenient to the port? What about the number of stops and does it cover the major attractions in Liverpool?

Here's a link to another tour company.

I can't recommend anyone, because I haven't been on any of them. Like I have said on this thread before, Liverpool is very compact and most of the sights are easily within half a mile of the port. In my opinion, the HoHo is best for those with very limited time or with mobility issues. Enjoy your stay :)

  6. I think everyone has pretty much summed it up. Here in England, tipping isn't looked on as a right, but more of a reward. I probably tip more than most over here and would usually tip 10%+ at a restaurant (assuming not already included). I always tip bartenders, typically about 50p per drink. Taxi drivers I tip about 10% of the fare (minimum £1 maximum £5). Hotel porters £1 per bag. But like JB said, nobody's going to get too upset whether you tip them or not. Just go with what you feel :)

  7. You're a good man. Nobody on my roll call shows any interest in playing golf for our day in Liverpool. It's still just my husband. Keeping our fingers crossed. If it doesn't work out, I know you tried your hardest and I thank you for that.

I think I'm going to have to admit defeat on this one. I can't think of any more options. I think you are just unlucky that you are in port on a Saturday, when most clubs will be running members' competitions. Any weekday would have been easy. What about trying to get a game in a weekday port?

Look on the bright side. More time to see and do everything that Liverpool has to offer. You can fit plenty into your long day in port. :)

    Sorry I couldn't help more :(

The HOHO bus stops right there at the Pier Head, about 100 yards walk from your ship. Here is a link to their site. I'm not sure if there is more than one HoHo bus tour, but this one definitely stops there.

  9. Any course will do. Thanks again. You're the best!

OK. I will ring a friend of mine who is the club pro at a course about 15 miles from the port. He just might be able to sort something out for your husband. Still nobody from your roll call willing to make up a pair with him?

  10. He was willing to travel and I saw that there is a train to Royal Liverpool, but as said, no availability and even if there was, he would need to prepay around 200gbp and what happens of it rains? I guess we'll have to take a land trip at some point or cruise on one of the luxury lines that have golf themed cruises. Princess doesn't offer any golf shore excursions. Liverpool was appealing for him because we are in port till 22:00, which gave him plenty of time and flexibility.

Are you still a member at Wallasey golf club? If so, is there anyone you can talk to about him playing a game that day? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

I've never been a member of Wallassey GC. Don't know where that came from. Perhaps I mentioned it on another post? Nonetheless, it doesn't matter who you know, if there is a competition then the course is only open to members in that competition. This is rapidly becoming a personal challenge! I have checked with a few golfing friends and all of them are already playing at their club on those days. Does your husband only want to play at a prestigious club, or is he looking for a game pretty much anywhere? That might open up one or two more options. :-)

  11. Just a thought. There aren't really any clubs close to port, so your husband would have to travel out to a local course in any case. Depending on where he was able to play, I'd estimate taxi fares at between £20-£30 each way. Then there would be club hire and green fees to pay. Do you have a budget in mind?

Have you checked if the ship can offer a shore excursion that takes in a round of golf. I recently played a magnificent course in Hawaii and the ship took care of everything- for a price! Worth checking though, as if they do then they will solve all the logistical problems too :-)

  12. I sent some inquiries to some clubs in the area. So far, Saturdays seem like they're for members only. Do you know of any companies that do golf outings for the day? Sometimes they have an inside connection to get into the club. Thanks.

i don't know of any local clubs that don't accept visitors at weekends, unless there is a competition on that day, which is quite likely at that time of the year. I would take him to my own club, but the course is closed to visitors that day because we have a members' competition all day. There is still quite a bit of time to go. Let me make some enquiries. It is very unusual for visitors to play alone, anywhere, but they will always be made welcome if the club can accommodate them. It would be much easier if you could find somebody from your roll call who would play too. :)

  13. Hi. It's that time of year to bump up this wonderful thread for all of this season's cruisers to Liverpool. I would like to know your suggestions for booking a game of golf for my husband. What club would you recommend which is close to port and might be easy to get on the course on a Saturday with one player? I know this might be a hard order to place, but any help will be much appreciated. His handicap is 16 and he can provide a certificate. Thanks. Bonnie

    Hi Bonnie

One player is going to be a problem anywhere. For starters, just remind me of the date you are in port and the times you are docked. Also, will your husband have his own clubs with him?

  14. Liverpool is great at this time of year too. The city is a great party destination and this time of year sees the restaurants and bars packed with seasonal revellers. Time to start planning next year's cruise to Cruise Critic's TOP UK destination port for 2014.

All the best for the festive season :)

  15. Thanks - it sounds like a great addition to our already very busy schedule for our day in Liverpool :)

Remember to take your camera! One note of caution. Don't bother if it's a rainy or misty day. The views will be average at best. You only need to allow about half an hour maximum when you are up there. It's really just a great photo opportunity and nothing else. The lift (elevator) is like a speeding bullet and gets you to the top in not very long at all!:)

  16. My wife and I visited the Radio City Tower on our wedding anniversary. Neither of us had been up there since it was a restaurant back in the 1970's and 80's. What an incredible view! It was only five pounds each to enter and was worth it for the 360 degree panoramic views over the city and far beyond. Well worth a visit.:)

  17. There are other views of course. We recently passed through Manchester Airport and used the Escape Lounge, as we were flying first class. I have to say that the people there were delightful and the lounge could hardly have been better. Comfortable, quiet and with a delicious and plentiful breakfast. Personally, I think Manchester airport is about the best airport we have in England. :)
