It's only post accident care that there is no charge for and as I said not for care off the ship. Crew do get medical care and their own doctor too😄

I can't answer to your experience, and I don't know if it is quoted in the HAL handbook. I work as a crew member and can tell you as a fact

I sorry this is a dangerous and inaccurate picture....You need to make sure you have travel insurance that provides & pays for medical care both onboard and on shore.
Just because you have an onboard injury or accident you can not depend on the Cruiseline to decide it's their fault and cover the cost.....

Any passenger who suffers an accident on board or ashore even if not on a ship sponsored tour may have onboard medical treatment at no cost. Any treatment ashore is not covered and your travel insurance is needed for those costs

Another vote for hotel jazz. Stayed there 5 years ago and loved it. Returned to Barcelona post cruise (I was working on the ship and really needed a good rest) stayed for 5 days with my daughter. Central, clean quiet and reasonable.

I wrote to the captain personally of the Caribbean princess a few years ago. Our good friends were taking their first cruise (they are since hooked!!) and I wanted to make it special for them. There were 5of us and we joined a group of about 10 people. We had to call a number and were met by security. We were also asked not to tell any other passengers. We had a wonderful time although the captain wasn't there, the 2nd officer showed us around. On a side note- a very embarrassing passenger asked the officers what their share of "all these tips we have to pay" was

Our best was from a balcony to a full suite aft. It was glorious and quite spoilt us we had our 2 young adult kids with us so having the extra room was fantastic and we enjoyed the perks. We had just received a 3 category upgrade on our upcoming TA on the regal from the cabin we usually book. It was underneath the skywalk. Didn't really fancy that even though it was slightly larger so we managed to get our original cabin back which I'm pleased about

I just returned from a month away and hadn't checked my personaliser. I have found that the cabin we carefully booked 18 months ago (the same cabin we have booked for the 4 previous cruises) has been "upgraded" to a balcony underneath the skywalk for our maiden regal transatlantic. Of course my TA is closed today. I don't know how long ago this change was made and I may have lost our cabin. I wasn't informed and I don't think TA probably wasn't as I had no message. I will be quite upset if I can't get our original cabin back.

On any cruise or any travel. I don't go over the border shopping to buffalo without health insurance. As a health care professional I have seen many cases where people have been left with enormous health care bills because of no insurance. Insurance is part of my vacation costs

One thing that surprised us is that when you tip, often times the severs have to hand it over to the owners and get nothing. We are from the UK (many years ago) and our nieces worked as servers through university - until they got ticked off with having to hand over all their tips. We went for dinner last year as a group of 12 and there was surprisingly no service charge. We tipped as Canadians, our our daughter and daughter in law who both work as servers while in school asked the servers if they got to keep all of it. They had to hand it all over. I think this may vary from restaurant to restaurant but it may be worth checking

I have been reading this with interest. The expected response time to am emergency call is 3-5 mins. However that depends on being given the right directions in the first place. Not sure about princess but all 911 calls go through the PSD, on the line I work for there is an AED at the PSD and guest relations are trained how to use them. They are sometimes there before we are. There is an emergency number for the bridge for crew to use. There is a standard response for all the medical department depending on the emergency. Each person had a different role to play. A stretcher is brought by a stretcher team. Cannot be managed by one nurse with equipment and sometimes depending on the ship there may be only one elevator that a stretcher can be loaded onto
Well done to the OP for your response. Don't know why the response time was so long. We weren't there so don't know all the different factors playing into this, there is usually some type of debrief after an incident so it won't be just ignored especially if brought to light by a passenger

I was scheduled to leave on a cruise on a Saturday. Going out of Tampa to New Orleans for Monday and Tuesday of Mardi Gras. Woke up with a wierd feeling in my neck and called my HMO. They said, don't call 911 but ger here as soon as you can.
They did a treadmill walking test EKG which was supposed to take about 30 minutes. After about 3 minutes they told me to stop and said I would be needing heart bypass surgery on Saturday. I told them I was going on a cruise and enjoying Fat Tuesday. They advised against it but gave me nitro glycerine to use on the cruise. On the Monday I came back, quad bypass.
So I cruised against medical advice but had I gone to the ship doctor, I am sure they would have put me ashore since they are not set up on the ship for bypass surgery.
Great time in New Orleans though, wish they would do that itinerary again.:D
Well done. And what sort of post would you have been making if you had a cardiac event at sea that couldn't be treated. The mind boggles

Has anyone been medevacked from a HAL cruise against their wishes? While on a cruise last year my mom went into a coughing fit due to her throat being sore, which made her cough and have difficulty breathing. She called 911 and had oxygen administered and then felt much better. She told the doctor that she felt better, but when the medical staff found out her medical history included heart problems they insisted she be removed from the cruise and sent to the hospital. She repeated several times that she felt fine, but they had made their decision.
Upon arrival at the hospital she had to wait a week until they would release her pending the outcome of tests they insisted on doing, even though the entire time she insisted she felt fine. The tests came back clear and she was released less than 24 hours later, but not before being presented with a bill for several thousand dollars which her insurance company is refusing to pay because of the “pre-existing condition” clause.
This troubles me greatly, because I think these types of cases will make people think twice about making that call to the ship's medical department for fear of being removed from the ship. Just because someone has a less than ideal medical history, does that mean HAL doesn't want the responsibility of having them as a guest? Is anyone familiar with their policies and guidelines for medical evacuation, or is the decision strictly up to the discretion of the attending physician?
If the tests had shown up that something was wrong wouldn't you be happy she was disembarked and thoroughly tested. As has been said there is a certain limit to what can be done on board. If the ship had got out to sea and her condition had worsened I'm sure you would be writing a different letter. Pre existing conditions should have been declared when insurance was taken out. I'm so glad your mom is well now and it had a good outcome

Hi, do the cabin bathrooms on HAL ships (specifically Statendam) have sharps containers? Or can they be requested?
It's not needles or anything; I'm a double-edge blade shaver, and I'm just wondering how best to dispose of used blades. I sailed with HAL a couple of years ago, but the question wasn't relevant then, so I never paid attention.
Thanks in advance!
Ask your steward to get you a sharps container. They will get one from the medical centre. Or alternatively go down to the clinic and they will be happy to supply one to you

David and I are on board with Pia and Mike. We are the good ones. :p Pia was informed earlier that Capt Yeomans IS on board. So far everything is ship shape. Toilets working well and we had to raise the a/c because we were chilly.
Enjoy your cruise Marcia Hope David is well

People don't walk around with their backsides hanging out. :D
..... No matter how they seem to show that on tv.
Beg to differ but they do. As an ER nurse I am constantly covering up patients bums as they set off down the hall, some people don't seem to realise what they are showing:D
And yes in the UK it is expected that people provide their own nightwear, kleenex and washcloths at least it was when I did my nurse training in the UK - not that I would ever use wahscloths and towels provided by the hospital:eek:

Going to stay at Hotel al Ponte Mocinego next year for our third time. Love this place Easy walk from the San Stae vaporetta stop and no bridges to haul luggage which we managed easily on the vaporetta both from the airport and to the cruise ship. Price is reasonable for Venice its an easy walk to the Rialto bridge

May I ask what happened with the anytime dining. We are sailing on the Caribbean in April and plan on doing anytime dining!!
It may have changed as it was in 2008 but we had long long waits every night and they even ended putting us to eat in traditional dining room which was not full at all. As I say it will probably have changed. Just didn't create good memories
Enjoy your cruise. There's no such thing as a bad one
