  1. I have made a sign or something for almost every cruise I have been on and I know lots of other people that do too. Our last cruise I didn't get around to making one and my husband bugged me about it almost every time we went to the room. Said he couldn't find it. He thought I shouldn't do it the first time. It is usually just a 12 x 12 paper decorated with die cuts and the name of the cruise.

Do what you want. If people don't like it, they don't have to look at it. I've had plenty of people thank me for having it as it helped them locate their room.

    Have fun!!

  2. You can remove them and personally give out tips. But I was told that the tips go into a pool so that those employees who are not in the public eye get some of the tips, such as the cooks, maintenance works, laundry, etc., will get some tips. Just something to think about. You could leave your tips on and give something extra to someone you want to.

  3. There is frequently sit and knit group on the daily schedule on sea days. I've met a lot of great people in those groups. One time I had my interchangeable needles in my carry on and got pulled aside getting on the ship. They went through my bad and found them. I told them what they were, but they had a few discussions with other personnel and looked in some book before they decided I could take them onboard.

I have never had a problem with the airlines, but on a knitting group online, I have heard many stories of people getting their knitting taken away, particularly on flights from other countries and flights from other countries coming back to the US. I only take what I absolutely need on flights. The interchangeables and any scissors and other things are in my checked luggage. I use fingernail clippers if I will need to cut the yarn on a plane.

  4. We cruised on NCL for the first time in 2006 and thought the food was awful, then hoped it was a fluke and tried again in 2008. Wasn't much better, so we swore we would never do it again. However, we have heard better things about it lately and are going to give it a try again later this week. Looked at some menus and they seem a lot better, so I am hoping we have made a good choice. We aren't into fancy foods, don't eat out regularly, so it isn't that we are expecting 5 star meals. On the first trip in 2006, everyone was complaining about the food. We have been on lots of other cruises and have never had a problem with the food on any other line.

  5. We are on the same cruise, and we got ours last week. Was hoping for a better upgrade, but its ok. My dad decided to go with us and he just booked on Friday, so he doesn't have an assignment. Hoping he will be somewhat close to us, as he is older and it would be a lot easier, but doubting that he will be since he booked so late.

  6. You will be one-star with zero days. No free internet minutes until 5* on HAL :( All 1* gets you is an invite to the Mariner brunch near the end of the cruise where they pass out the souvenir tiles.

Sometimes HAL doesn't pick up the Princess cruise info automatically (happened to a friend) so if your HAL site My Account does not show it, send an email to the Mariner Society.

    .

So does HAL give you credit for the days you've sailed on Princess? Am I reading this correctly. I thought each cruiseline did it's own thing and there was no crossover. If so, I need to call and get some days added.

  7. We are going to Alaska in a couple weeks on Holland out of Seattle and going to Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Anchorage, Homer, Sitka, and Kodiak. My dad is coming with us and he would like to possibly go out fishing if he can find a good rate and can get some fish. We went with him about 12 years ago and he went twice and didn't get anything.

Anyone have any experience on doing it while on a cruise? Thanks for any information.

  8. You can get a soda card for $25 that is worth $50 in sodas. Depending on how much soda you drink, it goes pretty far. It is only a glass though, not a can. If you get a soda without the card, it is a can (they give you a glass with ice). We got two soda cards on our 45-day cruise and it was plenty for DH and I.
