  1. I was on an 18-day Panama Canal on Amsterdam earlier this year, down in the bilge in the aftmost interior (1947). You're on port side, I was on starboard just aft of you. I had no problem at all with noise at that location. She's a great ship. Have a great cruise.

THANK YOU!! Great to hear. We called and all interior rooms are booked. We decided to just chance it, since we really didn't want to pay to upgrade to an obstructed view. Nice of you to let us know about that room. I knew I could count on people hear to help.

    Thanks again!

  2. The engines would be below you. That "white space" deck aft of you has winches, lines, and a stern anchor for docking or anchoring. You will likely hear noises from this equipment and thrusters each morning that you dock or anchor off shore ... and you could hear engine noise and propeller noise and vibration while underway.

Good luck getting a change or enduring the noise if you can't change. Unfortunately, that's the chance you take with a guarantee. :)

    .

Thanks for the info. We had our TA call and all the inside cabins are booked, so we are out of luck.

  3. I don't know the cabin, but wouldn't book it based on that.

Didn't know what cabin I would be assigned. We booked a guarantee, and this is what we got:(

I am just curious if anyone knows anything about a cabin like this, as one wall is right next to whatever it is behind us. I tried looking around online and found one site that said, "may have propeller vibration". So just wondering if anyone knows what it is there and if it is bad.

Or does anyone know of a site I can look at that would give me better information about this room.

  4. We have been on 19 cruises. Have always booked an inside guarantee. We have always been fine with what we have gotten as cabin assignments. A few times we were upgraded to obstructed view cabins, and once we were offered an upsell to a balcony and took it. All our cabins have been fine. We don't spend much time in them.

This cruise we booked an inside as well. We are on the bottom of the boat at the back, next to what I think is the engine room? I tried looking up about the room and found something that said there "may be" propeller vibration. We are in room 1954 on the Amsterdam. Does anyone know anything about this cabin. I am a little concerned about noise, as this is a long cruise.

Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

  5. We got our assignment and after looking at where it is, I'm worried about it. We have an inside on the bottom deck. That doesn't bother me, but it seems we are going to have "propeller vibration" Not sure how that is going to be for 45 days!!

Maybe (doubtful) we will get a cabin change. Last cruise they changed it twice before we sailed. So I'm crossing my fingers!

  6. We were on the Zaandam this summer and no pizza. DH was very disappointed. We are going on a 45 day cruise on the Amsterdam in Oct. and he is not happy, as they don't have pizza either. He loves to get a slice for a late night snack or in the afternoon. I told him to eat up before we leave to get his fill. We don't eat a lot of pizza at home, but he loves to eat it on ship for some reason.

  7. Still waiting for assignment. Leaving in 12 days. Hope that is good news.

I looked today and our room assignment was there for the same cruise. Check, maybe yours is there. Hoping, but doubtful it might change. We always book a guarantee, sometimes we stick with our first assignment and sometimes it changes. Our cruise in July changed twice, the last one just a few days before we left. We are on the bottom floor this time. Never been that low before. Don't spend much time there, so doesn't really matter.

  8. I was wondering how they do the menus on the longer cruises. We have been on two week cruises and the menu was different every night. Am wondering if they would just do the two week menu over and over, or if it is different every night, or just a set number of items, offered in different combinations. We are doing a 45 day cruise and just wondering what to expect.

  9. Yes, the Amsterdam has the Dive-in out on deck and only has pizza in the Lido proper and on one side only. The pizza is better than in the past but it still has a l o n g way to go before I would call it good.

Do they have the pizza everyday? We only saw some on the Zaandam once. DH said it was not good.

  10. Thanks for the replies. If it has the Dive In, then no, there will be no pizza. I will tell DH to eat lots before we go and maybe he will be sick of it by the time we leave.

I kind of thought it was going to be the same as the Zaandam. We should be able to find our way around easily.

  11. We just got off the Zaandam and are going on the Amsterdam in October. Are they exactly the same ship? Does anyone know if there is a pizza place onboard the Amsterdam. DH was very sad there was not one on the Zaandam and since this is a long cruise, is really hoping there is some.

I have looked at the deck plans and it looks similar.

    TIA.

  12. We can't print out the cruise documents before leaving for our cruise. I filled them out online, but our printer is on the fritz. I know I can get luggage tags at the port, but is it going to be a problem without the cruise papers at embarkation? Have always had them with me in the past. DH says it should be okay since they are online, but want to make sure I don't need to find somewhere to get them printed out tomorrow before we leave.

  13. We have been on a HAL Alaskan cruise and a Princess. The Princess cruise had someone onboard the whole time who did wonderful talks at least once a day. He would announce any wildlife he say the whole trip. There were rangers aboard at the glaciers, I believe. But, this guy was wonderful.

We are going on the Zaandam on the 26th, and are looking forward to it, but will miss having this guy aboard. He was so interesting. I usually don't care for the "talks", but went along with DH to the first one, and made sure I didn't miss any of the rest.

I will say that the rangers that come on for HAL are very interesting and I enjoy them as well. Just enjoyed that aspect of the Princess cruise better.

  14. We are going on a 14 day Alaskan cruise on the Zaandam on the 26th. DH has a tux and is wondering if he should take it or just go with a jacket and tie. He enjoys dressing up, but doesn't want to be the only one wearing a tux. Three years ago, about 1/3 were wearing them. Two years ago, on Princess, there weren't very many.

Are women still wearing cocktail dresses, or not as fancy?

    Thanks.

  15. My husband came home from work on a Friday and said he needed to take the next week off work. We looked for a cruise and found one leaving out of San Diego the next afternoon. Called and booked it, packed and left all within about a two hour period and drove through the night to California for the cruise. It was quite fun to do it that fast.

  16. I use that tacky stuff (I know, very technical term) that you have to pull and pull for it to get tacky and place it on the back of what I am putting on the door. It works very well and doesn't leave a residue. Sorry I can't remember the name of it right now.
