Was that cruise to Hawaii back in April of 2012, out of San Diego? If so, we were on that cruise too and witnessed the guy jumping off the ship. I was the one who spotted him floating about 400 yards from the ship. Heard that he hadn't been taking his medications. At least he survived. We also had to return to Honolulu on our way towards San Diego for an emergency.

    Yes same cruise!

  2. Oceania Dress Code

In all evening dining venues, we request that guests adhere to the appropriate country club casual dress code. Shorts, jeans, T-shirts, athletic footwear and sandals are not permitted in the Grand Dining Room or specialty restaurants. As the Terrace Cafe exudes a resort-casual ambience, dressy shorts and casual shirts may be worn in the evenings. Tank tops and swimsuits are not appropriate attire for any of the onboard restaurants at any time.

So basically, as long as you’re not in tank tops and swimsuits in the restaurants for breakfast or lunch, you’re fine. Jeans would be totally acceptable. You should make note that guest washers and dryers are available on board and easy to use, so you could pack less and do laundry at least once.

Of course, laundry and dry cleaning services are available, but these are a bit pricey, particularly if you opt for the 50 percent surcharge to receive your clothes back on the same day. Dry cleaning a blouse, for example, for same-day return would cost you $15.75 with the surcharge, $10.50 if you can wait an extra day.

  3. We had booked the Chef's table and by the time we got to the main course the couple next to us was extremely intoxicated. They got into a knock down fist fight in the middle of the dining room. Everyone was stunned,  the dining room went completely silent. Security eventually intervened and they were escorted from the dining room.

On another cruise we had been enjoying the Serenity deck  and we were half way to Hawaii when a passenger calmly took off his shoes, stepped onto the rail and jumped off the back of the ship. Someone quickly threw over the life ring which activated a GPS locator. It took the ship an hour to slow down and turn around. When we returned to the area it took another hour to locate him, he tried to swim away from the rescuers when he was spotted. Once we reached Hawaii he was handed over to the authorities.

  4. No Travel Agent needed. Simple call Carnival, ask for the groups dept. Once transferred explain that you have a group of 20 and would like to block off space. They will ask you how many cabins you want of each  type....Balcony, OV, Interior. They will all be double occupancy, any suites, triples or quads will require full deposit up front. Once you give them all the details they will give you  the group phone number, pin number for the leader(you)and a group pin number. I would recommend that you set it up so that each passenger/family calls in to book their cabin.

You should call as soon as possible.

  5. In order for the cruise line to price match there has to be inventory in that specific category. If a category is completely sold out there's nothing to match it too.

If you aren't happy with a category you can call your agent and ask to be upgraded to a better category you just can't downgrade. For instance you can't go from a balcony to an interior but you can go from a balcony to a suite, etc.

  6. We just got off Vision last Thursday and quite frankly I would definitely re-consider any options you can find.

Whilst we always just go with the flow and have enjoyed some cruises better than others, there was something seriously missing on the Vision. It is the first time ever for us, that there has been announcements in 2 languages for everything. Apparently there were 217 Spanish guests on board so perhaps they were catering for them but it just seemed to go on and on. The CD was not our cup of tea and certainly doesn't make or break a cruise, but it was monotonous for the most part. Food was OK just. Hard sell was just that especially at the beginning of the cruise. Giovannis was empty most nights and the Some Enchanted Evening Lounge is completely under utilised given it;s position on the ship, aft with wall to wall windows overlooking the wake. In fact Park West seemed to be permanently placed there. I have cruised a lot, but have to say, this was the coldest ship I have ever been on. Since coming home with have both had sore throats and flu like symptoms. It was OK but only just.

I have to agree with the OP. We just returned Sunday from a 12 day cruise aboard VOS. Out of 8 cruises this was the worst ship we have ever experienced. Food was mediocre at best, boring, unimaginative and rarely changed. Day old dinner rolls were filled with jam and covered in powder sugar and passed off as pastries at Cafe Latti-tudes. Complimentary beverage offerings such as ice tea and lemon aid were only available during dining hours which were very limited. 1 1/2 hour for dining room lunch is ridiculous. Coffee station outside of the Windjammer had consistently lukewarm coffee, I doubt it was made fresh but instead leftover from the buffet and never checked throughout the day. Activities and shows were terrible or just non existent. I have never seen Army Fail Videos played on the outdoor screen on any of my cruises but on VOS it was non stop for 12 days, the only other option was Soccer which played for hours every day.

Twice we found ourselves at the front desk due to the fact that we were charged for alcohol, my husband doesn't drink and I didn't order any drinks on this cruise. Then I asked how our account could possibly be charged without handing over our room key? Her remark was well mistakes happen??? I'm like what?

There were over 1100 English speaking passengers and approximately 200 Spanish speaking passengers but every announcement, activity and even the 2 movies that were offered on the cruise were followed by Spanish announcements and Spanish subtitles for the movie. The ending narrative was complete covered by the subtitles and we were unable to read the narrative at the end of the movie.

This was our second RCI cruise and most likely our last.

We also came home with cough, fever and flu like symptoms and are still trying to recover.

  7. For the Brand they give you, 12pak Evian large size, it's not. To buy 6 pack at the store about $11-13, times 2 is $22-26. Royal charging $39 for convenience isn't that bad. Now if was the $39 for one of the cheap brand smaller cases of bottles that cost $4 a case, that would be robbery...

As others said, against rules, rarely enforced, But if you do bring water put it in a case, don't just slap a tag on it...

Actually you can buy a 6 pack of Evian for $4.98 at Walmart.

  8. The deal is that it is now allowed. That being said many people do whatever they want (because they think it's their right) and many have reported that have gotten away with it.

I DO NOT go on a vacation if I can not afford it. I do not enjoy turning a cruise into a camping trip by dragging a bunch of stuff on with me.

As for "how can RCI justify this charge????"

it's about the same as any hotel gift shop, or airport store. It's just the way it is. I personally either pay for it or just drink the copious amounts of absolutely fine drinking water available at no charge on the ship.

To each his own. the deal is it's not allowed. ...

this is an ongoing debate on CC their are arguments on each side.

How nice for you. It's the principle, $39 is highway robbery plain and simple. I would however be willing to pay 3x the amount, that would be fair and justifiable.

  9. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/

U.S. territories are not foreign countries, therefore you would not always need to have your passport to enter Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, or the North Mariana Islands. However, new ID regulations mean that, depending on which state issued your driver's license or state ID, you may be required to show a passport to fly domestically. This is due to the REAL ID Act, which instituted requirements for the information displayed on IDs used for air travel. Some state-issued IDs do not comply with these regulations, so travelers from these states would be required to present a U.S. passport at airport security.

It is in your best interest to get a passport if you can.You might not have an issue boarding the ship with out one but you won't be able to fly home if there's an emergency and your travel plans have to be cut short.

As far as the 6 month expiration rule you should check the official passport site as well as your airline requirements for boarding the plane, some airlines require that your passport have an expiration date valid 6 months after you return. You just might find your self stuck at customs on your return to the US.

  10. If you booked through a TA they are responsible for the error, they would have received a confirmation from the cruise line and in turn should have forwarded the confirmation to you for your records. Your bank/CC statement would have been proof that a payment was processed with the cruise line as well. A hold without a deposit would have automatically dropped off and your card would not have been charged therefore a confirmation number would not have generated.

The TA should be responsible for the difference in pricing and I would ask for his/her supervisor, insist they make it right at their expense not yours.

At the very least you should be able to dispute the amt with your CC company.

Hope it all works out for you.

  11. We booked an airport transfer to Barcelona through a company called shuttledirect.com. I have recently read some bad reviews including a no show and the shuttle service refusing to refund the customer their money.

The last thing I want is for our group of 5 to be left stranded at the airport after a long flight. Having experienced this once before at Heathrow I have no wish to repeat it.

Has anyone else used this service? Should we be concerned enough to cancel and go with someone else? We have 3 transfers booked with them.

  12. We are currently booked on the VOS, this will be our second cruise with RCI and our first to the Mediterranean.

While we are very excited I am somewhat guarded. It seems that Royal Caribbean thinks nothing of cancelling cruises with no consideration for it's guests and the expenses associated as a result of those cancellations.

We do have travel insurance as well as flight protection but as others have posted the insurance is not covering cancellations initiated by the cruise line. It seems to me that this is bad business and I will hesitate to book another RCI cruise after this one because of this issue.

I know it happens on other cruise lines as well but it seems to me that RCI has a higher rate of cancellation than the other lines. I do not say this lightly, I have experienced it first hand through friends who were given no explanation just a notice that their vacation plans were now cancelled. This was to be their first cruise and it left a very bad impression of the cruise industry overall and I don't blame them.

So my question is....am alone in this or do others see this as an issue as well?
