  1. Flight leaves from JFK on Oct. 14 and cruise leaves on Oct. 19 from Sydney.

I was a technical computer systems analyst and manager and I know all about record ownership. HAL should be able to fix this in about 7 seconds with my seat assignment kept if they know what they are doing. This would be a real time fix.

    Full payment was made.

  2. Hi --

I need a managerial person at Holland America who can get things done. HAL issued me an erroneous air ticket, one that goes from JFK to LAX. The rest go to Australia and back.

The carrier tried to make a fix for me (it has a different receipt flight number than the flight number shown on FlightEase and VirtuallyThere for the given e-ticket, but the airline can't swap out the record because HAL "owns" the file record from a computer viewpoint. Simply put, HAL controls the record to the exclusion of anyone else including the carrier. As such the carrier says that boarding entry will be denied to me at the airport as it now stands because it will not show me on the booked flight but on an incoming flight from Europe! Carrier says that HAL caused the problem with an error they made back in July.

My personal cruise consultant says that Air/Sea is "working" on the problem. But after 15 emails to the personal cruise consultant (PCC), nothing has been done. Flight leaves middle of October.

The airline says that all HAL has to do is to reissue the ticket with a new e-ticket number. So simple, but PCC at HAL says they are having a hard time with this problem, but "they feel covered from their end! " What about the passenger???? Is it all about CYA? They don't care about me!

At this point I am looking for someone with accountability. I am now considering cancellation which my platinum plan allows. I have occurred other outside expenses in regard to this trip, so I stand to lose about $3000.00.

Can anyone help me with a HAL phone number?

  3. Recently a well known cruise line issued my e-tickets covering four flights. On the surface the written flight numbers are all correct, etc. And the description iss correct on VirtuallyThere as well as in the list of flights under the locator number on the airline’s website. The flight in question is a trip from JFK to LAX.

But when I try to view the email receipt on the airline website, it says that the flight is another flight number and going from Dublin to JFK! I called the airline and they say there is an error although they do not know why.

I go to my cruiseline commissioned agent and try to tell him about it. He keeps saying that there is nothing wrong. I ask him to pass this by the air/sea department of the cruiseline. He doesn’t do it.

He just says to tell the airline at check in the locator number and everything will be alright.

Butr at check-in I am sure that the e-ticket will show the Dublin flight.

What should I do. I am getting nowhere at the cruiseline, and if I don’t make the JFK/LAX flight, the next say, I don’t make LAX to SYD. The whole 34 day cruise goes down the drain. And I lose some money though I do have insurance.

  4. If you're asking about the actual boarding passes, within 24 hours of departure you can go do the Delta Airlines website and print your boarding pass using the ticket#. If that's inconvenient, you can just go directly to the kiosk at the airport and enter your flight confirmation code or ticket# and print the boarding pass there. Depending on the flight and your status, you may also have to pay the fee for your baggage. I usually do my outbound boarding pass at home, and do my returns at the airport.

If you're asking about a simple document with your flight details, again go to the Delta Airlines website and click on "My Trips" and enter your confirmation# and name.

I'm not asking about flight details or boarding passes. But how do I print off the receipts themselves???

  5. Hi -- I am the original poster.

I must say that once I met a Catholic chaplain on one of HAL's ships who had a tattoo on his left arm that showed. Fr. Joseph, who passed two years back, was a wonderful and compassionate priest.

I remember asking him how he could be a priest and have a tattoo at the same time -- me with my built in bias!. He replied that he had it done in a previous life when he was in the Navy in his youth.

After the Navy he got himself educated, took a civilian job, then decided he was interested in the priesthood and became a priest in the Diocese of Albuquerque, N.M.

I can imagine that the tattoo drew as many people to him in his ministry as to those that turned away.

  6. Hiu --

I have been informed that HAL at this time has no plans to offer shuttle service from the Port of Adelaide to the CBD about 8 miles away. I am a solo traveler and need a safe and sure way to the CBD and back.

Cruise Port Critic states "From Port Adelaide

Cruise lines most likely will offer a shuttle service to the center of Port Adelaide and/or to the city center of Adelaide. Public transportation (bus route 150) and taxis are also available to the city center. The rail line is currently undergoing major track repairs, and, at press time, it was not operating. "

Why is it that HAL almost consistently takes advantage of the situation making the only alternative to see a city their expensive tour -- in this case $151.00 over 8 hours. Other cruise lines have no problem with a shuttle service.

I have refrained booking a subsequent cruise because I am getting very tired of this kind of treatment. You would think they would want to make the cruise experience a good one.

  7. Hi -- Am taking a long cruise in Oct/Nov with several excursions as well as the usual shipboard life. I have an 18-105mm. a 55-200mm and an 18-55mm. Any suggestions as to what to take? I have the usual foreign carry-on weight restrictions. I use a Nikon D7100 and can up the crop factor to 1.3 adding a little more zoom to the punch.

  8. I've taken a few courses, and they always stress taking time, setting the picture up, and using good light -- usually at sunrise or sunset. So, how does one take a good picture when you are on an excursion, and none of the above criteria are within your control --.. . and you are leaving the port at 5 pm!

  9. Hi --

I have a wonderful Nikon D7100 which I love dearly. But when I fly a foreign carrier, I find that the weight of the camera plus an additional lens uses a lot of my carry-on allowance of around 11 pounds.

Should I consider purchasing a mirrorless camera for use in foreign travel? Somehow, it resonates with me that the smaller the sensor, the less image quality I will get. I will never put my camera and lenses in checked luggage!

    Any solutions?

  10. Hi --

When I was in Australia last October, I bought the most delicious eucalyptus drops. I will be back in October for another cruise.

I think the name was "Powells," but the problem is I don't remember for sure. I bought them at a local convenience store near the Sofitel Wentworth Hotel, in Sydney.

Can anyone of our Australian members clue me in as to the proper name of the product? They are not sold in the United States. But they should be!

  11. Hi --

Am interested in taking a hop on hop off tour in Darwin. One of the hop on hop off tour stops is Fort Hill Wharf where my ship, the Volendam, is scheduled to dock.

Has anyone had experience with this tour? They offer a 60 minute round trip and a 90 minute round trip.

Where in the dock area, do I connect with this tour?

    Thank you,

  12. Hi -- It was suggested to me that I consider the shuttle run by HAL to the city from an outlying port. I have been on a lot of HAL cruises but I have never seen this. Is this something new? My sister who travels on Princess says that they have it all the time but I don't ever recall seeing it on HAL. Comments?

  13. Hi --

I will be on the Volendam in mid-October with a stop in Brisbane, Australia. Where is the most likely place the ship will dock? Is there a main terminal close in city center? I want to take a possible hop on -- hop off city tour which will allow me to see most of the sights as well as a possible museum or two.

    Thank you,

  14. Hi -- Will AARP Supplemental pick up my medical expenses on a foreign cruise; apparently, Medicare won't. And AARP seems to be tied into that, so I have my doubts.

I tried to get the same commercial coverage that I had last trip for 1 million dollars, but now the insurance company will no longer write plans for New York State residents. The best I can get with another company is for $250,000which I feel is inadequate for foreign medical costs.

I already have the Platimum plan from HAL but the medical part is grossly inadequate. I am fairly healthy with no recent pre-existing problems

  15. Hi --

Am taking a long circumnavigation cruise of Australia and would like to purchase a nice man's opal ring. Where are the best cities and stores to do this? Am spending extra days in Sydney front and back of the cruise.

  16. Hi --

If I book a flight via HAL on American from New York to Sydney with an overnight in Los Angeles, does American's carry-on weight apply for the entire round trip, or does that of Qantas (its flight operator) apply -- it is only 11 kilos. If American's weight limit does not apply, I will try to take United from JFK to Sydney via SFO, instead - I need to carry my optics up top with me!

    Regards,
