we both got the unlimited with our elite/plat discount $80? per device for the cruise (should have just bought the 4 device plan for less, but, whatevs...) . I'm using this little guy to share access across my laptop, tablet & phone (at night in the cabin). PITA switching between them... I know, but, hey, I'm paying for 2 people which is more than the 4 device plan! It's not like i'm typing on all 3 device at the same time (although I can, I'm like the great keyboard player Rick Wakeman - of Yes, 1970-80's awesome rock band).

@CruiseVA - how did you set it up?  It shows me the Medallionet, and my laptop sees it, but so far no internet connection.  I'm trying to use the 'repeater' mode.  I'm not seeing a place to input the login info (only if I open another window on the laptop).  What am I missing?  Thanks!

I called recently for my 16 day Greenland cruise on the CB because pre-purchase internet isn't in our personalizer yet.  I was told that the price on board would be $149.00, and platinum/elites would get 25% off for an on board price of $112.50.  This package discount would be available for only the first 1-2 days of the cruise. IRC, after that it is $9.99/day.

For my 16 day S. America cruise on the Coral, Medallion net does show in our personalizer, and the pre-purchase price is $129.  Plat/Elite on board would again be $112.50, so we are better off waiting until we board.

I don't know the prices for less than 16 or more than 30 days, but this is the answer I got for 16-30 day pricing.  I believe the "save over 50%" claim comes from buying it by the day on board for a longer cruise.  If you wait until after the first couple days of your cruise and pay $9.99/day for a 30 day cruise, for example, paying $129 pre-cruise is saving over 50%.

@pompeii - I'm with you heading out on Monday (wohooo!), and am still a bit confused.  I'm not Plat/Elite, so does that mean that I am better off with the pre-board price? or are there discounts for us low-rung folks upon boarding?

When is a discount not a discount?

I've read again and again that the price of 1-device MedallionNet is $9.99/day.  This supposed 50% discount looks like the old trick of dressing up the normal price to look like a discount, but it's a phony discount from a "suggested retail price" which is inflated and never actually charged.  In this case Princess is saying the "regular" price $19.99/day  and you can get a "special" 50% discount to cut it to $9.99.  Problem is, from what I've seen $9.99 is the MOST anyone ever pays for MedallionNet.  Have I got this wrong?

Sorry if I'm dense - are all of these quoted prices in this thread for 'the masses' or for elite level folks?  I'm at the bottom rung and have no idea whether to take the $14.99/day for 4 devices or wait until embarkation day (next Monday).  All help is appreciated!

BTW, we’ll be on the same cruise.

I'm a sufficiently ignorant cruiser - only a few under my belt of which only 1 was Princess (and it wasn't great).  I appreciate all of the knowledge I'm gaining from all of you!

BTW EP010835 - I'm just down the road from you in Garland.  See you on board if not around town!

Nuuk is through Nuuk Water Taxi, Qaqortoq is through Qaqortoq Water Taxi (sister company to Nuuk Water Taxi and arranged through them), Nanortalik is through Tasermuit Camp/South Greenland Boat Charter 44.

Guide to Greenland has some information on tours, just make sure to find out if whichever one you're looking at is in a closed or open boat.  Open boats are apt to be a little chilly and not much fun if the weather should change.  Greenland Sagalands has tours out of Qaqortoq, but I was frustrated with their last of communication and booked elsewhere.  Are you booked on one of the Greenland itineraries?

Yes - the Aug. 19-Sept.4 sailing.  Reading through the roll call for it, it seems that a number of the private tours have been cancelled for some reason, over the last month or so.  I have yet to book excursions, but am now getting antsy. 😅

Hi All - a couple of questions:

    • what about the muster station that was on the cards?  I have not seen a comment here that says it is imprinted on the medallions.
    • could the 'watch adapter' that Amazon sells be used with a chain to turn the medallion into a pendant?
    • I haven't cruised Princess in over a decade - if they're expecting folks to use all of these apps on their smart devices, are they providing charging stations around the ship for us to be able to use their apps, or do we need to lug both the device and a portable battery in order to be able to buy drinks all day/night?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as my cruise gets closer - Aug. 19 to Canada/Greenland.  I'm less worried about waterproofing than others 😜!

    Thanks!

I knew there'd be more as soon as I hit 'submit'!!

    • I see a lot of mentions of needing to 'take out' the medallion from a number of ways to hold it - what about if it is in the lanyard they provide?  Do you have to remove it from there as well?  If it is in a bracelet/watch-type holder, can you not just turn your wrist upside down to put it on whatever reader they have?

    Thanks again!

Although this may be the policy of a few private vendors, the vast majority understand that the ship missing port is not the passenger's fault.  I have come across very few who don't refund fully if the ship cannot make port.  After all, they want good reviews even from people who have to cancel.

Now if you just up and cancel the day before or don't show up at all, then yes you are probably out of luck.  But that would be the same as a ship's excursion.  Just do your research, ask questions before booking, and you will be fine with independent excursions.

We are taking this cruise this August and have excursions lined up in all three ports; two we pay on the day and the third refunds if the ship cannot get us there.

What excursions have you booked?  And with/through whom?
