  1. Hello,

We will be in Grand Cayman next week. We have been there many times on cruises and we also stayed a week at the Sunset House about 10 years ago. We usually walk to Eden Rock to snorkel . CDNJehn I read that you walked to Sunset House from port. I think that would be too long for us being in our 60's but it gave me an idea. Does the Sunset House let people not staying there use their property for the day? Do they charge? We loved staying at the Sunset House. It was in 2004 right after Hurricane Ivan did so much detraction to the island. Sunset House had all been just redone. I would love to spend a day there.

    Thanks,

    Marianne

  2. I think that in 2012 all cabin people had to have the same package, but that has since been relaxed. My 1st cruise was January 2013, and I remember that was the case when I purchased it then for me and my cabin mate.

Thats what I thought about the Eclipse. I think it makes more sense to let just the person who want it make the purchase.

    Thanks.

  3. Thanks for the info everyone. I thought when we were on the Eclipse in 2012 that everyone in the cabin had to get the drinks package. We were on the NCL Jewel in 2013 and the NCL Breakaway this year. Maybe it was the NCL ships that had this policy. I have not booked a package as I don't think I would drink enough to make it worth it. We are planning on getting the wine special. We did that on the Eclipse and it worked well for us. We usually don't have drinks until "cocktail hour" which for us its about 6pm. Anyway thinks for info and I am looking forward to seeing the ship decorated for Christmas.

  4. Hello,

Just 2 weeks ago we booked the Silhouette leaving a week from today Nov 30. We have cruised many time. This will be our 4th Celebrity cruise---Mercury 2000, Constellation 2003 and Eclipse 2012. I have searched here and on the website but cant find the answer to my question about the drinks package and I have read a ton of them:)..

When we were on the Eclipse in order to buy the drinks package both passengers in cabin had to buy it. Is that still the policy or can one person in the cabin buy it now? I understand the issue about buying one but getting drinks for two but one passenger has no interest in the package and the other one(me) does.

Also will the ship be decorated for Christmas? We usually cruise in February as I was teaching and would go on vacation week. I am now retired and so we have the freedom to go when we want and at the last minute as we are doing next week. I would love to see a ship decorated for Christmas.

    Thank you

    Marianne

  5. Hello, We are just off the Breakaway and I had been reading here about the situation with the smoke from the casino. The smell was very prevalent in the casino that is situated deck 8 around the Atrium and then down a few corridors. We didnt spend any time in the Atrium but I could smell smoke from the casino on the next level. while walking through. never ate at any specialty restaurants so I don't know about the smell in any of them. Some people here have mentioned they could smell it in some of the restaurants. We could smell smoke at times while on our balcony and also one time in the cabin but for the most part it was not a problem. The strange thing was while in the casino I saw very few people smoking.

  6. Hello,

I will be on the Breakaway Sunday in an aft facing balcony cabin. According to all i have read and seen pics of there is a 4 cup coffee maker in the room that takes those round discs. If i bring 4 cup cone shaped filters and my own DD coffee will that work in the cabin coffee maker?

    Thanks,

    Marianne

  7. Hello,

We have been on both Princess and NCL. Also Royal Caribbean, HAL and Celebrity. We will be doing our 4th NCL next week on the Breakaway. Last year we did the same route on the Jewel. We also went on the NCL Sea and Windward when they were still sailing. On Princess we have been on the Crown, the Grand and the Ocean Princess. The Ocean one was in 2001 to Alaska but that ship is no longer with Princess. We sailed RC one many years ago to Bermuda, Celebrity Mercury, Constellation and Eclipse. HAL Zuiderdam. I can say that every cruise has been fun, food was good, service was good, Crew was always friendly and we always had a wonderful cruise. When we were booked on the NCL Windward all I read was bad reviews. We had a great time. Last year we were on the NCL Jewel and it seemed like good reviews were far and few. I loved that ship. It is beautiful and fun and great service. We have sailed Princess the most being on the Grand twice and the Crown( my favorite ship) 4 times. I am partial to Princess as I like the huge decks on the Caribe deck, the understated decor and it started feeling like home! I also like their spa and adult pool. And as we are now in our 60's we are not looking for much in the way of partying. Princess does have older passengers but that is fine with us. As for food...there has never been a problem with quality. Last year I read about how the food on the Jewel was not hot, salty, bland etc. We always had a delicious hot meal. And service in the MDR was excellent. I loved the Jewel and would most definitely sail it again despite all the negative reviews. When we were on the Celebrity Constellation in 2003 when it was only 6 months old we kept running into 2 couples who were complaining ALL the time...every time we saw them. At one point I hear one guy say to the other " write up a report, number it and file it" We joked about that the whole cruise. "oh no!! The stewart in the hallway did not smile and fall all over us. Write up an report, number it and file it".......in the barrel

The absolute BEST food I have ever had on a ship was on the Eclipse. We had a spa cabin which meant we could eat in the special restaurant called Blu. It was a special treat every night. The food was made to order and was true cuisine. The service was the best we have ever had. That being said I enjoyed the food on all our cruises.

Right now it seems that the negative reviews far outnumber the positive ones on the Breakaway. I know that we will have a good time. Not much bothers us when it comes to travel. I am always happy and feel lucky to be able to travel. We are doing the Breakaway as we liked being able to drive to the ship from MA. And getting off the ship and driving back 4 hours home. We also are sailing the BA as we had such a good time last year on the Jewel. The whole week last year I kept thinking why were there so many negative reviews? I love this ship!

My husband speak many different languages and likes to talk to the international crew members. One he starts talking to them and asking about their home they could not be more gracious and we enjoy extra special service.

I just ignore the negative stuff and go with an open mind and the attitude that I am going to enjoy myself.

Which ever you choose.... have a wonderful cruise.

  8. Hello, We are sailing on the Breakaway in 2 weeks. I was watching Burn the Floor on Utube tonight. We both love this kind of show. I have reservations for the show but I was wondering about the performances in the MDR. Can the show be seen from all tables in the MDR? Can you reserve a table right next to the dance floor? How do you find out when the performances will be held in the MDR?

    Thanks,

    Marianne

  9. Thank you for your positive review on the Brreakaway. We booked for next month on the NYC to Bahamas route. It seems like there are so many negative reviews it is nice to see a positive one. I don't let negative reviews stop me from booking a ship.We are really looking forward to the Breakaway.

  10. Hello, We were on the Jewel last February. We ate in the Auzul 2 nights and the rest of the time in the Tzars main dining room. We liked the food. We enjoyed the food. We ate lunch at the buffet everyday and liked the food and the variety there. We usually had room service for breakfast. We did not eat in any of the specialty restaurants. Years ago we ate in the LeBistro on the NCL Sea and it was an excellent meal. My husband took advantage of the 2 for one beer special at Maltings. It was only a from 5:00 to maybe 7:00 not sure. I got a daily margarita special at Modernos bar each night. We were on deck 8 so it was a short walk to Modernos ..get the margarita and back to the cabin to enjoy on the deck. We had a great time on the Jewel out of NYC. It was the second time we did that cruise. The first being on the NCL Sea in 2002.We are booked on the Breakaway for next month again out of NYC and even though I have read a lot of negative reviews on it I always go with an open mind. I had read a ton of negative ones on the Jewel too but it is a beautiful ship, the service was great, the crew always had a smile and hello. Enjoy your cruise on the Jewel. I would sail her again any day.

  11. Hi, I am glad to see this thread as I got an email from NCL today offering the new dinner package. I logged into my account but can't for the life of me find where the info is. Can anyone tell me how to access it if want to sign up for that before our Febuary 16th cruise on the Breakaway?

    Thank you,

    Marianne

  12. Thanks for pic and info. We have done 6 Princess cruises on the Caribe deck which has a huge balcony. But on Jewel and Eclipse the balconies were small. As long as we can sit outside and have coffee /predinner drinks we are fine. The balcony in the pic looks good.

  13. Hi,

We were on the Jewel last February in an aft facing balcony. I read conflicting reports here about whether there was a coffeemaker or an electric hot pot to heat water in our cabin. I also read that some asked the stewart to change the hot pot to a coffeemaker and that worked. In our case it was a hot pot and I asked the stewart if we could have a 4 cup coffeemaker instead and he said no.

  14. Hi, We are in cabin 13304 next month. Can anyone tell me anything about this cabin? Is it in a good location? What does the balcony have for furniture? Is there a real coffee maker in the cabin or just a hot water pot? Last year sort of at the last minute we sailed on the Jewel. The TA recommended an aft facing balcony on deck 8. He said it was cancelation that just came in. I have always wanted to try an aft facing cabin We usually do midship. Well we LOVED it! Listening to and watching the wake was my favorite part of the cruise. Almost as soon as I got off the ship I booked the Breakaway in an aft facing cabin. We really enjoyed the jewel and I am looking forward to the Breakaway. It will be the largest ship I have been on in 15 cruises. Thanks for any info.

  15. Hello, We are booked on the Breakaway in February in aft facing cabin 13304. I was wondering if anyone who has stayed in that cabin has any pics. We cruised this past February in our first aft facing balcony on the NCL Jewel from NYC. We enjoyed it so much I booked the same cruise for Feb 2014 on the Breakaway in another aft facing balcony. Any info on cabin 13304 is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Marianne

  16. Oh wow great six flavors I wonder if I can get them at other bars for the same price. Sounds yummy

Still like to know how much the 2 for 1 martini's cost lol

Margarita madness was from I think from 5-7 at the Moderno....there was a guy there one night who was telling someone else about margareta madness at the pool in the afternoon. We dont sit around the pool so I am not sure what time that was.

  17. A few weeks ago on the Jewel, they had 2 for 1 drinks at one of the bars in bar city from 4-6 everyday. It was certain beer and only house brand liquors with one mixer, no multi liquor drinks. I'm not sure if martinis were included. My sister and I shared the 2 for 1's.

I had a pear martini (not happy hour) and it was $10 ish.

We were on the Jewel 2 weeks ago also. My husband got 2 for one beers each night. I asked for a mixed drink and bartender said the same as you were told. He did tell me to watch for the Margarita Madness specials each night at the Moderno Bar. I got one each night for 5.00. There were about 6 different flavors. I liked the melon ones the best.
