  1. We were on the Oasis a couple of weeks ago (Jan 4) and had a Nellie's Beach cabana. We actually had 2 cabanas for 11 of us and booked them in November. I was expecting to eat at the standard buffet places, but when we arrived we were given the golden wristbands and were directed to the upgraded buffet for lunch. I seem to remember everyone was being given the same wristband that arrived that day. I'm not sure if that is a change in policy or if someone screwed up that day.

  2. I think it would be very easy for each person in a cabin to each take 2 bottles in. When we went thru security a couple of weeks ago, my wife was directed to a different line than I was and nobody asked about who was with whom. I had 2 bottles in my carryon and told them I did. They thanked me for telling them and it went straight thru.

  3. We had 11313 on our last cruise which was directly over the seafood shack. Never really had any smells in the cabin from it. Even standing on the balcony I can't remeber ever smelling anything, at least nothing offensive. The boardwalk can be alittle noisy at times during the day or evening, but nothing that affected sleep.

  4. Thanks for the input. Not being familiar with Houston or the airports, you never know if there is something that makes one stand out over the other. The comment about transportaion costs is good to know. Is there any traffic issues on the north side of the City vs the south side?

  5. What airline are you flying? Southwest you have no choice but hobby. United you will be at the big airport for example.

We haven't made any flight arrangements yet, still pretty far out, but was just curious about the 2 airports. If a certain airport has more negatives for whatever reason, we might try to avoid it if possible. We fly from the Baltimore area so Southwest is always an option we consider, but almost all the majors are available to us.

  6. We will be cruising out of Galveston for the first time and have never flown into Houston. Other than the obvious flight cost and schedules, is there any advantage to flying into or out of either of the 2 airports? It looks like Hobby is further south so most likely it could be quicker to get to. Any thoughts from those who know the area or have flown there?

  7. We just got off the Oasis and traveled with someone who easts gluten-free. He told the head waiter in MDR on the 1st night and every night they brought the menu and asked him to select items for the next night to make sure it would or could be prepared gluten free. They brought him gluten free bread every night as well.

They made special pizza in Sorrentos for him and he said it was quite good. I believe they take cross contamination quite seriously as one night he was waiting for a pizza and they said it was done but they needed to clean a pizza cutter. He said it was OK to use one of the other cutters, but they siad no way they were not allowed to do anything that could possibly cross contaminate.

  8. Just a note on the ice show. On the Jan,.13 sailing they went by muster stations so you didn't need a ticket. Just go on the day your muster station is assigned. I don't know if they do that on all sailings now or not.

We were on the same sailing. There were 4 showings, 2 on each of the first 2 sea days. The Compass listed the muster station numbers and the time of the showing. I saw them check sea pass cards and held some people back that were not scheduled until everyone else entered, and then they were allowed to go in. The show we attended was full, but there were a handfull of seats remaining.

  9. Kim, we were at the POM a month ago. We thought about walking from downtown to the port since it looked close on the map, and glad we did not. As others have said, it is longer than it looks and we were white knuckled just driving in the shuttle. Taxis, vans, trucks, all jockeying for position, and nobody wants to lose their spot in line. I thought for sure we were going to hit something or someone. We did see a few people walking in, but I would not recommend it. I think there were 5 ships in port and it was a madhouse.
