  1. Just speak with your room steward once onboard, they can source the cords you might need.

You might also consider purchasing a simple euro adapter, I use these to convert one of the bedside plugs. See pic.

It allows me to place the unit right next to the bed for convenience and eliminates the need for extension cord.

  2. Preferred (Platinum/Elite) boarding can be pretty slick.

In Port Everglades, you'll be boarding at Terminal #2.

When you arrive at the terminal, the lines into the terminal are split - with your preferred boarding on the right.

You would need to get to the terminal at 9-9:30 to be among the first.

If you get to the terminal by 10:30am, you may see the front of the lines up ahead of you.

After 10:30 you will likely just see longer lines of many people ahead of you.

Fellow passengers waiting in line are not shy about telling you where the back of your respective line is.

As for other members of your party -

When my cabin mate was of lesser Captains Circle status, YES they were allowed to join me in my Elite boarding privileged.

If your fellow passengers have seperate cabins, they are obliged to board in the appropriate group.

when my sisters family joined us - they were not allowed to 'ride along' with us in the preferred line, as it should be.

  3. Pam's points sum up the canal experience.

You will want to be able to roam the open public deck spaces during the lock transits.

We went through one lock set on promenade deck which was only mere feet (almost reach out and touch) from the walls of the locks.

The second lock transit we watched from above, observing the busy activity below.

Both were accompanied by broadcast commentary on process and what to next expect.

Many cabins provide great points to view this process, but best is from the open deck spaces.

    Enjoy!!

  4. In addition to Pam's comments, the entrance to Sanctuary on Ruby is on the starboard side of the ship.

That said, any lounger locations to the port side are less trafficked by other Sanctuary guests.

If you choose a lounger just inside the entrance you will have all manner of traffic.

This would be Sanctuary staff, other Sanctuary guests and ships crew parading past that might affect your relaxation enjoyment.

Additionally, locations adjacent to the spa/massage cabanas can be a bit busy with activity.

We tend to choose locations on the far port side, either under shade sail or out in the exposed sun space.

  5. Hello lbfluffy,

Your cabin is opposite from our E225 cabin location on our 10/22/16 CB sailing.

Similar position to your Ruby cabin E224, just the other side of ship.

It puts you right above the back of the Princess Theater upper level.

On nights we retired early, we did clearly hear performances below.

Not necessarily in a bad way, was not overly loud and it provided nice music to fall asleep to.

It went absolutely quiet after the evenings last performance.

We did hear sounds in the late morning/afternoons depending on any movies or practice sessions, never a bother.

Not a terrible location, closer to forward elevators.

    You should not be disappointed.

  6. Just FYI -

Snail-mailed the paperwork to Princess on Thursday 10/06 and received email acknowledging the OBC posting to our onboard credit account this past Thursday 10/13.

Only seven days from my mailbox to posting on account - impressive!

I'm not a fan of having to mail in the information via USPS, but am pleased with the swift turn time on seeing this posted to the account.

  7. You might check out www.tomsportguides.com - His publications are free and focused on providing a port review/overview.

These guides are specifically for the cruise passenger who will be making a day visit to the destination.

He provides maps, suggested walking tours, historic/museum points of interest and summarizes any dining/shopping options.

Tom has covered almost any relevant port on for Canada/New England cruise itineraries (in addition to many other cruise destinations).

We have found these very helpful in the past and have planned our upcoming Canada/NE cruise using his information.

Just download and print, and you have a handy guide you can carry while off the ship.

  8. Our March 24th 2018 booking on the Crown was affected by these redeployment changes as well.

Was booked as leg #3 of B2B2B.

Their communication indicates we have 30-days to contact them to change/rebook, providing us $25pp OBC for the inconvenience.

If we fail to contact, they will cancel the booking outright and refund any deposit, etc.

So YES, is still showing in personalizer.

But NO, this voyage is blocked out on their system if you were to attempt to book it.

Best way to check is to sample book your existing voyage and see if it's still showing availability in the system.

  9. We were fortunate to occupy a similar cabin on Lido deck - L108.

I've attached an image that I hope helps to put the solid metal balcony rail in perspective for you relative to the seating.

This was the first 'non-glass' balcony cabin for us, and I never felt it detracted from enjoying any views at all.

You actually find yourself standing at the rails walking around the substantial length of the balcony most of the time.

These four balconies (Lido/Marina 107/108) are ridiculously large - moreso the Marina deck balcony as it has a huge open expanse jutting out over the bridge below.

You could easily host a gathering for 30+ and not feel crowded at all.

Additionally, the slanted metal facing on these balconies helped to deflect the wind up/over.

This helps you to comfortably enjoy the balcony sailing into/out of ports and (depending on prevailing wind) while underway at sea.

We have booked several future sailings in forward facing balcony cabins on Royal as a result of enjoying this experience so much.

  10. rayandbelle -

I do not know for a fact that the balcony OPENS to the next cabin (R746 opening to R742).

Images I shared would suggest it would.

I would think it would, but am not absolutely certain.

This might be a question better answered by a Princess expert (if there is a princess expert).

  11. rayandbelle,

Have stayed in this cabin, and similar on different ships.

Never any noise issues from overhead.

Is great location, only steps away from the aft Terrace pool and easy access to Horizon Court.

These aft cabins have a slightly larger angled balcony.

They allow you to view the entire length of the ship.

Am hoping to attach a couple images to give you better perspective.

  12. I too agree not to hesitate - book now.

That allows you the best choices of itinerary, ship and cabin.

I generally book out several cruises, if things change I'll cancel/rebook as needed. But by booking far in advance I'm afforded best choices of destination/ship and cabin.

Sip & Sail is an attractive offer, but would never be a deal breaker. THere will be other promotions down the road and bargains to be had.

  13. I'm a 98% Princess cruiser, but did sail on Solstice in 2008 when I was trying to determine my brand loyalty by comparing Celebrity/RCI/Princess.

At that time, my impression was that Celebrity was a tad more sophisticated and felt more elegant than I personally needed.

To your point, it got very quiet on Celebrity very early.

This past year I've had opportunity to sail Royal Princess twice and really do like the ship.

I'll still prefer a 'grand class' ship for warm weather (best top deck & pool options) but the Royal had a similar elegance as I felt on Celebrity.

And they accomplished this while maintaining all of the accustomed Princess standards and expectations I've come to appreciate.

Royal is a big ship, that you will notice for sure.

But Princess did a pretty good job of making all of the spaces/venues feel smaller and intimate.

You only feel the true size of the ship if you need to traverse from end-to-end.

Most venues are contained between a few of the lower decks.

But, back to nightlife - Princess has music/entertainment well into the evening depending on your preference.

Theater shows, princess live, trivia, passenger participation game shows, and comedians/magicians, etc. - all of this well on towards 10pm or later.

Typically one evening 'on deck' type party starting around 9pm on warmer sailings.

Ongoing music/entertainers in different venues into late hours.

Finally there is the nightclub, varies by ship, carrying on past midnight.

You may enjoy the elegance of the Royal Princess compares to Celebrity and also find performers or nighttime entertainment to keep you engaged well into the evening.

    Doubt you will be disappointed!!

  14. I'll keep my eyes open while I wander through rummage sales this weekend, maybe I can find them a nice gently used machine from the 1970's or 1980's.

I would have no problem spending a few bucks for the machine and donating it to Princess, to help them remain in the dark ages.

(Seriously Princess, get with the program - please let us begin to send these proof of ownership documents via email as attachments)

  15. Enjoy - you have a great cabin!

These cabins have a slanted solid metal face on the balcony, not the usual clear glass balcony facing.

This shouldn't detract from your enjoyment, it provides a great wind-break by pushing the oncoming winds up.

Much of the time this should enable you to sit out on the balcony while the ship is underway.

If you stand at the rail while underway, you do get a brisk breeze in your face.

There can be an occasional gust of wind into the cabin when opening/closing the door while underway (mind any loose papers on the desk!!).

Is also great location to watch as the ship approaches/departs ports - fantastic views from up front.

It almost feels like your own private view!

These cabins are also directly under Sanctuary, so absolutely no noise from above!

  16. napunani,

Am also with you on this final New England voyage of CB this October.

Island Explorer bus service runs through Columbus Day, October 10th.

It appears they are not running this service at the time of our visit.

There is a 'Down East' bus service from the came company at the time we are there, but this looks to be more of a local commuter service and not ideal for us as tourists visiting that day.

  17. Ron was our CD this past April on Royal.

Very personable, saw him several times each day working his way around the ship during events and at numerous venues.

Plus you get usual morning and afternoon announcements from him over the PA.

He is engaging, not overbearing and was supported by a strong cast of assistant CD's.

Was most impressed when he stopped at our seats one evening while entering the theater - introduced himself, asked about our time aboard and just chatted with us for a couple minutes.

Have never had that kind of simple and spontaneous interaction with a CD before.

He came across as a very warm and genuine person.

I think you'll enjoy him as one of your cruise vacation hosts!

  18. These cabins are our favorites.

Always book only one of these on this ship.

Wish more Grand class ships were built with these as balcony cabins!

Never any issues from overhead noise or privacy.

All four cabins are deep enough that privacy is no concern.

Yes, if your at the balcony rail you can be see from above - but the location outweighs concern IMHO.

Your location is on 'dogleg' off the main corridor - no traffic.

Some 'door slamming' comments from others - never an issue for us.

Standard cabins, no odd interior exceptions - great location near pool, upper decks and buffet.

    Book it!!

  19. Hello nana,

Another option to consider might be looking at the mini-suites/deluxe balcony cabins on the front of the ship on Lido or Marina deck.

The view from the front is spectacular and depending on the specific cabin - the balcony can be significantly larger than other locations on the ship.

  20. Just got off Royal 4/12 sailing.

Swapped minibar for cards and received old-style with ship/voyage written on the back.

We also had a few old-style cards from previous voyages without anything noted on the reverse and simply wrote the ship/voyage on one of these and used them without any issues.

Gave a couple cards to others we knew on the ship, and they too were able to use them w/o issue.

Saw a number of passengers with he newer style card as well - it seemed the baristas were accepting both with no concerns.

  21. Gracie115, answers in red....

After reading your review and the high ratings you gave your cabin L104 we have changed our booking from a Deluxe balcony to this mini suite for our cruise this coming October. It looks quite large and we love the idea of the balcony facing the front of the ship. ON the deck plans it states there is an "obstructed view" and that you can't open the balcony door at sea....is this true or can you just not let it stay open?

    - I believe the "obstructed view" refers to the fact that the balcony has a solid metal railing, not the usual blue tinted glass. IMO there was no issues with the view from this cabin and the balcony also functioned to block the wind which made it usable while underway on most days.

    - There was also no issue with opening the door while the ship was at sea to step out onto the balcony. Although depending on the wind and direction of travel it could get blustery walking forward to the seating areas.

Did you notice any more rocking of the ship from this location so far forward?

    - Noticed nothing regarding rocking at all. We normally cruise in an aft cabin and this was a much smoother trip!
