  1. Can anyone share a photo or link to O's current wine list?  My husband doesn't drink, and we'll be on our first 30-day cruise.  I'll generally have one (or rarely, two) glasses with dinner, period.  I'm debating with myself about picking up some wine in L.A. before embarking vs. purchasing bottles onboard - which is what I usually do.

The boat was really nice! It has a power bimini, sort of convertible roof, very cool. We had a great time zipping around - they do have an open bow with seating, so make sure if it's important to be in the shade, to sit in the back because everybody tends to grab the same seat they took originally. Also, I would bring your snorkel gear from the ship, so to not waste time trying to put together a set of snorkel gear on the boat that works for you. See below, the top comes all the way down so that it's flush with the top of the windshield. They have juice and water on board, which is nice coming out of the saltwater 🌊fourwinns.jpg

    Very helpful...thanks!

Hello everyone! I am not sure if people are interested in a post like this, but I shared at the end of my live trip report this June that I would do a comparison of Celebrity and Princess after a recent trip. Well, I just got back from Alaska with Princess, and I thought the comparison might be interesting for people here to read. First, why do I think this? Princess is usually the line I see recommended here after Celebrity in terms of how they compare to each other. It seems that a lot of people here have experience with both lines. I also think taking the Celebrity and Princess cruise within a month of each other allows for a good comparison because cruise lines can change quickly in terms of the offer.

Thanks for posting this comparison.  I totally agree that X is a better product.  After 12 Princess cruises, we left them long ago for Celebrity, and even beyond...to Oceania.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I was joking that if I were peacefully relaxing and someone with a device was blasting music or videos, I would be tempted to blast right back. I wouldn't do it, but it would tempt me. I'm more likely to ask politely if they wouldn't mind using earbuds.

Sorry about that.  I misunderstood your meaning.🫢

I shuddered when someone complained about people listening to music and videos without earbuds by the pool. If that continues, I'll dig my phone out of the safe and play MY music (and it won't be pretty \m/...OK, not really, I like the rest of you too much)

Why on earth would you deliberately be nasty to someone who just wants to relax in peace?

Yes, it's a bit ridiculous that a luxury line doesn't have an app.

It’s so true that we all have different opinions on just about anything.  No way do I want to carry around a phone all day.  Mine goes right into the safe when I board. 😁

I will work on her for a future cruise.  The one I had booked started in "Berlin" (not actually Berlin, of course) and ended in Stockholm, so the plan was to do maybe 3 nights in Berlin and 3 in Stockholm.  She really liked Copenhagen, so I figured she would like the Baltics.

What I like about the MSC itinerary is an overnight in Stockholm.  I canceled a cruise on a different line b/c they shortened the Stockholm visit to 8AM to 4PM, which is insane for such an important port.

We are also impressed with the cleanliness on MSC, and the crews are just great! From the YC director down it was just a wonderful experience last year. I have read on MSC that they make announcements in languages for the nationalities onboard. Our cruise last year only had announcements in English, French, and Italian.

    Great info, thanks!

  9. I'm glad to have found this thread.  I have questions about our stop at Bay of Islands?  We're on Oceania Insignia, and I would love to know the logistics of the port call.  Is it actually a port where we can disembark?  A town?  The ship's excursions to Russell are sold out, and I'm hoping there's something else to do there.  Help, please!

  10. I understand your wanting to see both sites when you call at Aqaba, but you'd miss so much.  I spent time in Jordan last September.  In one day at Petra, I walked over 7 miles...and didn't even hike up to the monastery...saw everything down past the Treasury.  It's hot and very exhausting.  If you try to rush it in only a few hours, you'll miss so much.

As for Wadi Rum, I spent 2 days there, with an overnight in a tented camp.  Magical doesn't even begin to describe it.  An hour in Wadi Rum is not worth the time or effort to get there, especially if it's not a ship's excursion.

My suggestion is to spend the day at Petra...enjoy every moment!

Although there are many trans-Pacific cruises between North America (Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Ángeles, San Diego) and either Australia (typically Sydney) or New Zealand (typically Auckland), the points that they visit in between tend to be very much the same: a few stops in Hawai‘i, two or three in French Polynesia, and often several in New Zealand. When one does stop in, say, Kiribati or Vanuatu, often the destination is an uninhabited island—really nothing but an anonymous beach and a couple of souvenir stands.

Which cruises make meaningful visits to other parts of the South Pacific, such as Kiribati, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa? I'm more interested in destinations such as these.

I don't know if you're still looking, but Oceania Insignia calls at Hawaii, FP, Fiji, American Samoa, and Samoa on its January 14, 2024 Los Angeles to Auckland.

    Here is a menu...

As an Italian-American, I've been told by a good friend that I'm a food snob!  🤣. The menu does look a bit sparse, but my mouth is watering, so I can live with it.  A great itinerary at a great price is certainly worth a try!  If you care to post more menus, I'd be so appreciative.

    Happy cruising!

I canceled my Sept 24 Baltics cruise, but did keep my Jan Seascape because it's YC and I'll lose the deposit if I cancel. That will be the last time I sail with MSC.

I'm sorry you canceled your Baltic cruise...we would have met.  In fact, the reason I'm taking a chance on MSC is just because of the Baltic cruise.  I figure we'll be off the ship everyday to sightsee - only onboard for breakfast and dinner every day except one sea day.  I only need a safe sailing, a clean cabin and decent food.  I figured - how bad can it be?!

  14. I hope this isn't a dumb question.....if it is, please be kind. 😆. Planning our first-ever transocean for January-February, 30 days from L.A. to New Zealand.  Ports in Hawaii, FP, Samoa, Fiji.  Of course, I understand storms can occur at any time, but generally speaking, what temperatures can we expect when we're cruising along at-sea.....60s, 70s, 80s?  Thanks in advance for advice on how/what to pack for this itinerary.

Yes there are bike rental places as you walk up the street from the tender location. None of the places have web pages or Facebook pages ... first come, first served

Thanks!  I can see that you are one of the most helpful voices on this forum.  My plan is to bicycle to the public beach and swim in the lagoon.  I'll be snorkeling on Bora Bora, which I understand is the best anywhere.....my husband doesn't snorkel so we'll just spend the Rangiroa day chillin' by the water, then maybe go over to the lookout for dolphins.  I may bring my snorkel and mask to the public beach in case there's something to see from the shore.

Do you have any other suggestions for the day here?  Is there a restaurant near the beach?  I've read you can also swim right from the tendering dock - what's that like?  Thanks again.
