  1. Am almost to the booking point of Breeze on 05 Dec this year. Please share any information you have about taking a side trip over to Nevis while I am in St. Kitts. I like going through the cruise line for shore excursions, but the only one I see through Carnival is a bit on the pricey side.

Any suggestions of how to get over there along with any ideas what would be good to do while there.

Thanks in advance. Been trying to sail Breeze over 2 years now.

We did the ship excursion catamaran sail and beach to Nevis on our last trip, are looking at the ship excursion ferry and Nevis island tour in December.

Have done the Brimstone Fortress and the Scenic Railway on previous visits to St. Kitts.

  2. What are the must see when cruising Hawaii. Are there Luau that we can go to and is one better than another

Before we went to Hawaii, we studied Frommer's Hawaii book. It gives itineraries for the islands based on how many days you will be there. You would likely be able to find similar information online.

The tourist website is a good source of information:

    http://www.gohawaii.com/en/

We also picked up a couple of issues of Hawaii Magazine before we went.

  3. I respectfully disagree with the previous poster. Cruising allows you to sample the islands, so if you go back for a land based vacation, you have a good idea of what island you want to spent more time on.

I agree with you. I have lived in 2 counties in my state my whole life. I haven't seen everything there is to see in those 2 counties, let alone the whole state in 50+ years.

We stayed across from Waikiki Beach for 5 days before embarking on the Pride of America. POA sails to 2 ports on the Big Island and overnights on Maui and Kauai. We had the opportunity to see the sights we wanted to see on Oahu and got a good overview of the other islands. The last day of the cruise on Kauai we ended up just relaxing on the beach because sightseeing had become more like a job than a vacation.

  4. Looks like Quality Inn Airport/Cruiseport South at 2500 Stirling Rd is only a few dollars more than the Comfort Inn on Commercial and has a free shuttle from the airport. Lots of shops and restaurants close by.

(Sleep Inn Dania Beach mentioned above appears sold out for Jan 8. One of the most popular "lower priced" motels discussed here regularly, so you can keep an eye out for cancellations there too, but only if rate is a bit lower than at my suggestion)

That Quality Inn is quite old. There is a brand new Comfort Suites just down the street or a Hampton Inn next door. There is a nice Cambria Suites just behind the Comfort Suites.

  5. Hi guys,

We're going on our first cruise from Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale next Easter on Celebrity Silhouette. We were going to hire a car both before and after our cruise with Avis. However we've read terrible things about their shuttle service (people waiting for hours etc) So now we're wondering if we should just keep the hire car and park at the port for the week of the cruise (the cost is around the same). Does anyone have any advice? Maybe we should be looking at a different rental company closer to the port? Also, not sure how easy and safe parking is? Any tips would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tim.

We either rent from Enterprise at the airport and return it the night before the cruise, taking the free shuttle back to the hotel where we take the hotel shuttle to the pier on the day of the cruise or return the car to the airport on the day of the cruise and take a taxi to the nearby pier for +/- $20.

  6. i need a budget hotel for March....roadway inn....ramada.....sleep inn....or somewhere else???? Can't handle a dive just want decent.... Thanks a bunch

There is a brand new Comfort Suites in Dania Beach on Stirling Rd. Right behind it is the Cambria Suites that is nice. There is a Hampton and Hyatt place at the same exit.

  7. Thanks everyone! I am so up in the air. We will most likely take the ferry on our own. I would have loved to have done the tour with Patouche but he is making me very nervous about getting back to the ship in time. I would have love to have a choice like Kuralu or Aristocat but as of now, they aren't not sure if they will be operating that day.

I guess I did get my answer that NCL is taking Speedy's ferry around 9 am so I don't think I would be able to get there any earlier to beat the crowd. Bluewater-don't you think we could go to another spot on VG first and then go to the Baths as the cruise folks are leaving? Then we could catch Smith's back or would that be too close?

When I read this post, I think to myself that there is a lot of time, worry and stress in it. I would take the ship's excursion and relax. And that is exactly what we did when we were on the Pearl.

One guy who was doing it on his own thought he would be all smart with me asking what ferry we were on, etc. I told him I didn't know. I paid someone else to worry about those details. :)

  8. RE the Train tour: Did you find the way the seats face inward awkward? It looks uncomfortable to be able to see on your side and by looking towards the other side you are trying to see past other people's heads.

Better than being packed three to a seat in a small van!

You can move around. But what you are looking at is the general landscape as it passes by, not the same spot the whole time like a concert stage or movie screen.

  9. Hi all,

New to this forum and joined today because will be travelling to Bermuda end of May! Will be docking at the Dockyard at approximately 11:30am and will be leaving the day after at 5:30pm (so having effectively 2 days in Bermuda).

I am looking for itineraries on what to do while we are there.

We are a young couple (no kids) early 30's and like to do lot of activities. Want to plan for snorkeling, Dolphin Quest, Crystal Caves, Horseshoe Bay and a city tour.

Is this possible in the 2 days we have?

Can someone be kind enough (first time, so a bit daunting) to share an itinerary for our above plans if possible?

Is it wise to book excursions from cruise or independent dealers? If independent, who would you suggest?

Also, whats the currency in Bermuda? Would they accept US Dollars? Or do we need to convert and take some local cash?

Many thanks in advance for any replies that I might get!!:)

I recommend Frommer's Bermuda guidebook. You will find suggested itineraries, including 1, 2, and 3 day sightseeing plans. Chapter 1 of the 2012 guidebook was The Best of Bermuda.

I would also suggest making a list of options for each day, then on that day, decide what you want to do based on weather, energy level, special events, traffic, etc.

You want to enjoy the trip, not make a job out of planning for it or trying to squeeze too many things in. If it were any other port, you would have less than a day to explore. There will always be more to see and do than you will have time for.

  10. Tip: if you bring soda onboard, just carry it separately, not inside your carryon to avoid screening delays. If it is in your carryon, they will pull you aside and thoroughly go through it.

  11. We are on the NCL Pearl in St. Thomas now. Last night after we left St. Kitts, the Noordam passed between our ship and the shore of St. Kitts headed south at about 6:15 pm as we were headed north. It was quite close to shore. Enjoying our cruise on the Pearl, but wishing we were on the Noordam as we have to go home on Thursday.

  12. It appears that many of you have been to Nachi multiple times! For those of you who are repeat visitors, what is the best time to arrive at the beach for the best pick of seats/palapas? The Navigator is scheduled to dock at 7:00 a.m., and I want to spend as much time at the beach as possible!

They do not open until 9am local time I believe. Just get there soon after.
