  1. I sailed on the Breakaway a while back and was booked in the Haven.  I also had booked the Spa Package.  I spent hardly anytime in the Haven, but many an hour in the spa.  Other than the nice breakfast and lunches in the Haven restaurant, I really don't feel I will miss the Haven as much as I would have thought.  As long as I have the Spa Package.  Never cruised NCL with out it.  Don't know if I ever willingly would.  Back to standard balconies for me.  Being platinum helps too.

Any one else feel this way?

  2. I did a quick look through the HAL boards to see what's up with HAL not doing regular Bermuda sailings.  I cant seem to find anything.

Am I just missing seeing bookings, or did HAL strop sailing there?

I had the Veendam on my bucket list with a Lanai state room and 4 day stay in Hamilton.  Looks like I dragged my feet too much.

  3. Caribbean Princess,  way to much propeller cavitation is felt.  Shaking and vibration all over.  I did like the Star Princess and the Sapphire Princess though.

While in port at Saint Maarten the ship (Caribbean Princess) was swaying at pier side with no noticeable sea.  Went on for hours.  Very rocky in mild sea states.

  4. 90000 Ton ship is gigantic, twice the size of the Titanic.  It is gigantic, just no where near the biggest.  One day the OASIS CLASS  ships may be categorized as mid- size.  Look at the GEM next to a WWII aircraft carrier (USS Intrepid), the Gem dwarfs it.  Is an elephant a gigantic animal?  Yes...  but not next to a blue whale, or even a mid-sized whale like a humpback.

Hate to burst your bubble, but 90 K ton Gem is far from gigantic.  The Carnival fleet goes from 70-135, Celebrity goes from 90-130, Princess goes from 77-141, Royal goes from 74-230 and NCL goes from 77-169.  A 90K ton ship is at the lower end of every major mainstream cruise line in North America.

  5. More alike than different.  RCL ships are more directed at being ships.  Carnival had best main dinning room staff and I thought pretty good food.  NCL, the people, the staff (all inclusive)...  Just great.  I prefer NCL.  NCL spa package,  where its at.

  6. Dawn Buffett seemed fine by me.  Buffett food is by and large just something to eat and quick.  I hit them a couple times on cruise, usually at lunch.  I do prefer the regular complimentary restaurants like O'Sheehans for quick eats tho.  But I do make my way to the buffett on pork chop night and load up a plate.

  7. I would choose the GEM personally.  I have not sailed the Escape, but have sailed on Breakaway.  Breakaway was great, but I just love the mid-ship (not small and not large) of the Gem.  Make no mistake, it is gigantic.  Just not nearly as gigantic as Escape.  As stated, it is a personal thing that I can not explain or even comprehend my self.  I just like the 90,000 tonners.

  8. Wow! This is a new change! They always left at 5! Loosing a day in Bermuda!

Hope not... I talked this cruise and Iternerary up, and a guy on my work crew is on that sailing. I won't be sailing myself in 2018. We are booked the May 17th, 2019 on the GEM out of Boston for our 25th Anniversary.

  9. I booked a HAL cruise on the Veendam to Bermuda. 6 months prior to the cruise I had to cancel due to work obligations. I should have read the fine print. I lost $300... The insurance was non refundable from HAL. I stewed over that for months. First off, I could not cruise, stay in a Lanai stateroom and then spend 4 days in Hamilton on Front Street. Then to add insult to injury, spend $300 not to be able to have the experience!

  10. Wish we were cruising on same sailing! Take care of my ship! Hopefully Alain is on!

Last cruise on the Dawn Alain did recognize Patty and I. Obviously with so many folks he meets he couldn't remember the exact dinner we had at La Cucina.

Next week this time we will be overnighting at Kings warf. We will do everything in our limited ability to deliver you a good ship!

  11. 10500 FWD penthouse on Dawn was our favorite stateroom to date aboard a ship. We liked it over the Aft penthouses. The bump out under the bridge that makes a huge balcony a little smaller, makes the stateroom a little bigger. Wind was no issue on our Bermuda cruise. We will be sailing in a 2 br family suite in September, so we will see if the FWD 10500 holds up as the favorite.

  12. I am "That Guy", I prefer the Dawns Spa to the Breakaway spa. Much quieter and I love the large lap pool. Watching the wake is so relaxing. Salt room on the Breakaway is a nice novelty, I would never go and use that again though.

If you are into pampering your self and relaxing, on the DAWN a spa pass is a must. I like a spa package over the Haven area.

  13. Do you recommend this? For us, the value would be space away from the crowds and kids... we are also sailing on the Dawn in a few weeks, and this would be our first cruise. Thanks for your advice!

I am pissed I took 9 cruises before I "discovered" a spa package. For me, it is worth every penny spent. Especially on the Dawn. The lap pool is really nice.
