  1. I like convenience. I like to have a drink on my Balcony. I'm not going to leave my cabin, run up to a bar, get my drink, return to the cabin, sit back down in my Chair on my Balcony only to have a watered down ice melted drink. And what if I want another? I've always taken a couple of small bottles for the room. Only time I've had a issue was when the DW tossed four miniatures into the luggage for me without telling me first. I bet those bottles shined like a flashlight on the x ray. The guy in the naughty room laughed and gave me my bag with the bottles inside and told me to have a nice cruise. I drink good booze. It's a couple of Pint Plastic Bottles with Plastic Caps. Most of the time I bring one unopened back home. If I could purchase a bottle for the room from the cruise ship I wouldn't bring my own.

You can purchase booze for your room. We do every cruise. It is not cheap, but when we figure what the drinks would cost from the bar we come out ahead.

  2. I thought $35 for Chops on the Brilliance was a little over the top, but $42 that's outrageous. In addition $35 for Jamie's which IMO the selections are not as good as Giovanni's which was $25 pre-cruise & $29 while on board. I think that RCL is pushing Paxs that want to dine in SR to the 3 or ultimate package.

The food at Jaimes is way better than Giovanni's. I buy the BOGO for $30. You don't choose the first night, you are assigned. You can change if available.

  3. I see it as the reverse... not that she MUST but rather unless they all want to buy her husband CANT

(Sorry not shouting, caps for emphasis)

You can opt out for various reasons - religion, pregnancy, recovering alcoholic or personal preference not to drink. I think Royal is hoping not everyone will know this and sell more to the no drinking parties and/or less people will buy it.

  4. Does anyone have the OFFICIAL list of dates/ships when this starts?? Just because the front screen says everyone has to buy, this seems to be on all cruises irrespective of sail dates.

And what is the OFFICIAL line about being grandfathered in ( if they are going to do this)?

  5. Well my brother and his Wife and the couple they was bringing has had enough. I can't say I don't blame them. I tried to log in my self today and it sa the same thing every time. It has been like this for 4 weeks now. I have also called and called.

He pretty much summed it up like. If there service sucks this bad before I get on the ship I don't even want to get on.

This was going to be his first one also.

WAY TO GO RCC. WAY TO GO!

Clear your web browser cookies. This maybe the problem. I have been on the site multiple times in the last few weeks without any issues.

  6. Here it is with the first medallion cruise still 4 months away and people are already dreaming up wild scenarios about what the new medallions are and are not going to be able to do, what is going to become obsolete, what is not going to become workable, and who knows what other things are going to pop out of the woodwork! Coffee cards will/won't work, stateroom lights will/won't work. I'm really a bit surprised that someone hasn't asked if the medallions will let cruisers tele-transport their luggage to/from the airport! :o:confused:

The fact is, the medallion is coming whether we like it or not. This is not the first cruise line to have such a device and 3-4 years from now there will still be people who swear by the medallion and others who will swear at it! But in either case, most of us will still be cruising. My only wonder is by that time, what other lines will have changed to a similar system and which ones will be getting ready to!

    Tom

I think it will be fun to get a display case to show off the medallions. I will admit I was not to crazy about a wrist band when I was on Anthem. I thought I would just using the card anyway, but I ended up loving the convenience of it. When your hands are full, the Windjammer was always packed so I ate in my room many times, you just tap the door and you are in. You don't have to put everything down search for your card, punch your card in the door, open the door, pick your stuff up and bring it in the room.

Yes there were sometimes it would not work as well, such as making purchases in the shops. There were times I would have to take it off to get the sensor to read it. But it worked, I did not have to go and get my room card because it would not read the bracelet while I was wearing it. It was not all the time, but only a few instances.

I say go into this with an open mind. Give it a try and you may actually like it. For those worried about losing it and someone using it for purchases, no need to worry because your picture will still come up when someone attempts to use it.

Signing up for medallion class is optional. However they can still track your spending and where about when ever your card is swiped. I'm sure that also includes the room. Personally I hope that few people use the service. I just want to get on the ship without having to stand in a check in line. If too many people opt in for the device it may be faster to check in at the desk.

It was great when we had the check in on Anthem. They scanned our paper work with an IPad and on the ship we went. Our wristbands were in our room. One card was in the slot outside our room in a sealed envelope.

I am sure with the medallion check in will be similar. They will scan your medallion and you are on the ship.

  8. I know that no one has the medallion yet but for people who've experienced similar items on other cruiselines - can you wear the device in the shower?

My watch is waterproof and what did in my FitBit was that I always forgot to take it off in the shower. I know I'll do similarly with the medallion if it's on a wristband.

Yes I you can wear it all the time.

  9. Disney has had the wrist bands for a good while and they work great. I'll wait and see how it goes.

There are some crazy images going in my head though. The comedians should have some fun with this.

I love the wristbands on Anthem of the Seas. I loved that I did not have to put everything down to open the cabin doors, or worry about leaving my S&S card inside the room.

  10. I liked Disney's Magic Band and easy to wear and use. With Princess medallion unless it in something it will get lost.

The medallion comes with a wrist band. I am guessing you can purchase the necklace or other holders. I am still waiting to here back from Princess on how and where they can be obtained.

  11. My wife never carries her sea pass card.......to get into the Diamond Lounge, does a couple have to show both cards or is one card sufficient!! We are Diamond!!

It seems to vary from ship to ship. I was just able to buzz in on Allure no check of my card and anyone could walk in behind me. On Anthem, they checked everyone's card first night and not afterward. They overflowed into the music Hall. I was quite surprised how small the D lounge was on Anthem.

  12. I am not sure what you *think* you are saying, but................

Just in case anyone is confused by your post:

The drinks don't have to be "mixed". The list is merely the brands of liquor that are available. They can be in many different kinds of drinks, but no "fancy" or "blender" drinks. You can, for instance, get a cosmo and (usually) a lemon drop. You can also have scotch straight up.

Almost every ship now has a Diamond Lounge, and even those that do not are treating some designated area as the DL. That means that you are no longer limited to wine & champagne for free.

The three drink vouchers are in addition to any drinks that you may have in the Diamond Lounge; no one scans your card in the DL.

If you are Diamond and have a Replenish package can you get a shot of liquor in your frozen drink using one of your free drinks loaded on your card?

  13. The drink plan is not free. It is included in your fare and they included it. Did they charge you the full list price, most likely not, but I would guess you did pay a higher total cost for your cruise. As to the 18 percent gratuity, it is my understanding that is included in the program, thus if true, it is already paid.

I am planning to try the drink package on our next cruise as we too got it included.

Generally you get $1000 (300 OBC and drink pkg for 2) worth of goodies for about $200-300 more than the regular price.

  14. For US citizens it can never be a bad deal financially since you can always transfer it to a TA and an entirely different cruise and still retain the on-board booking OBC benefit. Or worse case you can just cancel it and get your deposit back - so absolutely no downside.

If you booked your current cruise thru a TA, the booking on board goes back to them automatically unless you tell them not to.

  15. Just don't miss the Quest Adult Game Show that will be held later in the week, about 10:30/11:00 pm start....you don't have to play but something you don't want to miss:eek::D:eek::D:eek::D

    Have a great cruise!

If you have done it on Carnival, prepare for an even better Quest on Royal. Carnival's is on but I find it more adult on Royal. Although the one on Vista was pretty special. You knew it was a new ball game when the host came out in drag.

  16. Going to ports that don't interest you is a bigger mistake then what cruise line takes you there.

We have switched lines. As avid NCL people we sailed Princess a few years ago. The experience was different than what we were used to. It wasn't bad, just different. There were parts we loved -- the warm chocolate chip cookies, the food, the décor. There were parts that didn't work for us, primarily the quieter tempo, the cabin design, & the fact that late night was limited to one venue (the night club) we didn't care for. We still had a great cruise & the islands were awesome! The ports really made it for us.

Princess will probably never be our first choice but that certainly doesn't mean it's not a quality product that is perfect for others.

On any ship, if you are willing to vary your schedule slightly, you can always avoid the crowds. If you insist on eating a prime time you will probably have to wait. So anticipate where the choke points might be & work around them.

Go with an open mind. Even if you don't permanently switch from Carnival to RC, you can still have a blast on this cruise. There will be something you enjoy about your cruise so focus on that or at least the people you are with. Make memories with them; the rest is details.

    Bon Voyage!

The ship doesn't make or break for me, except Vista which was poorly designed and I ended up in Medical Center on board fir first time in 29 cruises, twice, because of the metal plates the continuously tripped people the entire 12 day cruise. 9ae3488cd320387387fa35f72c12e969.jpg one of the many plates
