  1. We are going to be on the Seaview in a little over a week😀 Can we use USD to get chips in the casino or do we have to use Euros for chips? Is this the best way to get chips for table play or is there a different/better option?

    Thanks!

Just off Seaview and I was so disappointed! If you’re going for a holiday just to relax and sit by the pool and have a drink then save your money and to go somewhere hot!

I agree that the Seaview wouldn't be a good choice for a relax by the pool vacation--it's on a port intensive Med itinerary right now. Doesn't lend itself to the beach vacation vibe.

We just returned from a western Caribbean cruise on the Seaside in the Yacht Club.  I typically do not get seasick but felt a little under the weather one of the days.  The up and down didn't bother me but I felt more side to side rocking on this cruise compared to others I have been a passenger on.

My wife reported that the hairdryer was weak and will bring her own next time we cruise with MSC.

Thanks! Did you notice the movement all throughout the ship or mainly in YC?

  4. We are currently booked in 16020 on the Seaview Western Med cruise out of Civi. Being that YC is forward, has motion been an issue? We are cruising in June if that makes a difference for the seas in that region.

Also, I saw a picture of the hairdryer on board. Is it a "real" hairdryer or does it feel like someone is blowing on your hair like other cruiselines?

Just trying to determine how much Bonine to bring and if I need my travel hairdryer.

    Thanks!

    Hi.

If you booked in August 2018 then you could have gelato included depending on your booking or the drink package purchased, as if eligible it will be honoured, even if you have to 'drive' that yourself aboard.

Many are now declaring that this is happening despite some staff, even from one bar to another, being confused!

Thank you! We are YC, so it's whatever the package was before the changes. I will have to see if I can find it.

Gelato is included using the old Deluxe package aboard Seaview ...100%

We are on Seaview in June:) We booked August 2018. Should we have gelato included? Do you know what specific drink exclusions we will have?

I have tried following all of the drink posts and it gives me a headache. I thought about calling MSC, but I'm afraid that will give me a bigger headache:classic_wink:

    Thanks!

  7. We are booked on our first MSC cruise this coming June. We decided to book the deluxe Yacht Club cabin. I have been reading the Seaview reviews and it is a little bothersome. In general, I try not to put too much emphasis on reviews, but there are common complaints of rude service and poor food. When I notice a pattern of complaints I tend to pay more attention.

So, who has taken this cruise and had a good experience? I have considered looking at other lines before final payment. This is for my husband's 50th and I don't want a cruise with rude, poor service.

    Thanks!

  8. I'm looking at an NCL itinerary that arrives in Havana at 8pm and then spends the next day/overnight and departs at 6am the following day. Has anyone done this itinerary? If so, did you get off the ship the first night? Do they let people disembark or do you have to wait til morning?

I'm trying to decide if this itinerary is worth it or to go with the typical overnight stay.

    Thanks!

  9. My husband and I have done the 21 day Best of Europe tour through Rick Steves and I have several more I would like to do. I have more of his books than I care to admit. However, when this type of article comes out I think it exposes a little of how disconnected he can be with how most Americans are able to travel.

For our RS tour, we traveled on a 50 person bus through 6 countries in 21 days. Now, the bus wasn't filled as there were only 28 of us. We moved from city to city seeing the "must sees" of each area and taking pictures. We took group pictures throughout Europe and it was always at the suggestion of our tour guide. Our guide would also let us know when great picture opportunities were coming up. I have two scrapbooks of photos from a wonderful trip. I have many memories, but sadly memories do fade and I love looking back at our once in a lifetime trip.

One of the things we received in our tour kit was a money belt. Very similar idea to the "kangaroo pouch," but it goes inside your pants. The thought was to keep everything safe and away from pickpockets. I think it's disingenuous to remark about people trying to keep their personal belongings safe in cities that are know for petty theft.

It also doesn't seem realistic for people who have 10 days to 2 weeks in Europe to not move about and see the sights. Yes, it is awesome to be able to sit back and soak it all in, but when on a limited time schedule, it just isn't always that possible. It seems he forgets he spends months in Europe every year. I stop taking pictures and visiting tourist sites when I have visited an area multiple times, but I would never expect a first timer not to partake in those things.

Some of his thoughts may be on point, but I don't think they always come across well.

A word about his books. I recently purchased his Mediterranean Cruise Ports book because we just booked a cruise to that area. Sadly, Genoa(Genova), Santa Margherita, Portofino, Corsica and Palma de Mallorca are not included. Those are all areas we hope to visit with Genoa, Ajaccio and Palma de Mallorca being our ports. He may not be interested in those areas so chose not to include them, but they are very common ports of call for Western Med cruises. I now have ordered Fodors to fill in the blanks. I have found if his tours go there, his books are great. If they don't visit those areas, it can be hit or miss if they are included in his guidebooks.

  10. Thanks for the responses! This is very helpful. It pretty much confirms what I was thinking—YC is worth it. We are going for hubby’s birthday and the private areas sound relaxing and enjoyable for this cruise.

  11. I have cruised several times, but new to MSC. I am trying to find the differences between Aurea and YC. I can get a little info on the MSC website, but not all of it loads.

We are looking at an itinerary on the Seaview out of Cannes that has no sea days, so wondering which would be the best choice.

    Happy Cruising!

  12. $300 difference is UNHEARD of. If we could get on Allure for that, we'd do it in a hearbeat. We are booked on the Breeze in July, and paid $4300 for 3 in a Lido balcony.:mad:

DH's tax season didn't coincide with DH's April vacation this year:mad:

However, with that being said, we wouldn't use the FlowRider, Rock Climbing wall, skating rink, boxing rink, etc......

We like to get on a ship and just chill out, with a drink in hand, and watch the ocean go by.

We cruised on the Breeze last year, and did just THAT.

Earlier poster said it didn't feel like a cruise ship, but felt more like a city.

I guess one never knows until they try it themselves......

Let us know what you decide:D

Your cruise is the other one I was looking at, but early August works better. Sad because it bumped the price up to $5000+.

I think we are going to book the Oasis because it sounds like this is good price, especially in comparison with the Breeze. I have to admit, I am intrigued by all of the options for live music, dancing, shows and "parties" in the evenings. I don't know that we will partake in all of them, but I want to see what it is like to have those options available.

  13. Yes but they offer the same free things. Royal just offers additional for fee things. More choices is not a bad thing.

Ok, I can deal with that. I was surprised by the number of things there are to do on a daily basis on the Oasis. I do think it makes it seem like RCCL has more pay items, but all of the things that are free on CCL are free on RCCL. That is my main concern.

  14. I am curious about the nickel and diming because we are trying to decide between the Breeze and Oasis.

I have been reading copies of the Cruise Compass from an early February cruise and the pay items seemed to be: certain fitness classes, bingo, wine tastings and food pairings and anything casino related. I think there was also a cupcake decorating class that had a fee. I'm sure there are some others throughout the week like the cupcake class, but I can't remember them.

If this is the case, I can deal with it because CCL also charges for these activities. If it is different than this, I would be interested in hearing about it. It stinks when activities that seem like they should be free have a "nominal" fee attached to them.

  15. $5,000 for the Breeze? For a week? For four people in the same room??? I thought I read the OP and threads carefully but maybe not...

We've been on the Breeze our last two cruises and really enjoyed it. I think the RCCL nickle-and-diming would offset anything that Oasis or Allure was superior in.

Yep, just a bit over $5000 for an 8 day in a balcony cabin.

I was concerned about the nickel and diming, but I don't think it's going to be a huge issue for us. There are at least 12 places to eat that aren't an additional cost and the activities the kids are interested in are free as are all of the shows. The one place we would go is Johnny Rockets and at least the soda package works there. Most of the things I would pay extra for on Royal, I would pay for on CCL, ie fresh squeezed juice, coffee, drinks, soda package.

  16. I am Platinum on Carnival and Emerald on Royal. I would say you have to experience the Oasis or the Allure at least once. The Oasis is an awesome ship. You should pre-book the shows. The shows run multiple days and times to accommodate the large number of passengers. http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1003 Even with the larger number of passengers it never felt crowded. Always found seats near one of the pools.

One thing that you need to really look at is the type of balcony cabin. The Oasis has inside and outside balcony cabins. The inside balconies overlook Central Park or the Boardwalk. The ocean view cabins cost more. My brother had a balcony that overlook the Boardwalk. He enjoyed it, but I know it would not be right for me. When I'm on a cruise I want to sea the ocean not a cabin across from me.

The range of entertainment is very good. Hairspray was just OK for me. The Ice show is amazing. Aqua show was unique and Come fly was me was good.

The flow rider is a lot of fun and they have 2 of them. One of them does boogie boarding and the other stand up surfing. The zip line was ok Just a short ride. You also have rock climbing, mini golf and lots of other things to do.

    The Oasis has my vote!!!

I agree, I want to see the ocean from my balcony!:) It did take a minute(or two) to sift through the cabin choices. I was also afraid the boardwalk/central park view balconies could be loud.
