Doesn’t it seem a bit like too much karaoke and silent disco onboard RCL these days. I long for the days of live music and dancing opportunities. It’s a very cheap way of saying that there are many activities each night if it’s constantly karaoke, know many love it but pretty boring. Same with silent disco versus a live band or a great dj.

It's much cheaper to put on shows where the passengers (karaoke - silent disco) are the attraction. Live music costs the cruise line more money than having just a host or MC.

We recently did the three night freedom new years cruise. They are telling us that we dont earn any points. Been cruising for 17 years and diamond plus and never heard of this before. Did I miss something?

Who's they? They don't know what they're talking about. It usually takes anywhere from 7-10 days after the cruise to show up in your loyalty account. If the points don't show up, email crownandanchor@rccl.com.

I have a question: do they only serve lobster one formal night, and is it only on the 2nd formal night (the 6th night)?  We are on Allure for the first time next summer and want to reserve some specialty dining and trying to plan it all out.  Thank you!

Yes, lobster is served once on a 7 day sailing on the 6th day, or 2nd formal night.

Has anyone else gotten an email from Royal Caribbean International Express Notification Alerts telling them to arrive one hour later than their previously selected boarding time?  Also that sailaway is at 5 instead of 4?

Yes we received the email and it's legit. The IT department is notorious for dropping the ball on contemporaneous updates.

Can I use them any time of day?

Do you think if i have the refreshment package (non-alcholic) they will try to use the free drinks if I use my card to get a virgin bloody mary, etc, so I'll probably need to say something right, like don't use my free drink for that?

Yes and yes.  And, you should always tell the server whether you want them to use a drink coupon or the beverage package.

I have a cruise on the Oasis in March (Western Caribbean). I purchased the drink package for $72.99 BOGO 50% off before the Black Friday deals. I have checked the website every day and that price has not gone lower. What kind of racket is RCI pulling?

The racket is 'dynamic-pricing' and RCL is the only main stream cruise line that uses dynamic pricing for beverage packages. You can thank former American Airlines CEO Robert Crandall for pioneering the development of yield-management (now called dynamic pricing) pricing concepts.

Can you actually make a standing ATD reservation for every night on the cruise in advance of boarding or do you have to make a reservation once on the ship?

Yes, you can make standing reservations for MTD in the Cruise Planner under the dining option(s), as soon as it becomes active.

I wish MSC would come to Galveston.

They very well might be. They signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the Galveston Warves for the potential development and operation of a terminal at piers 16-18.

If it happens (which is a distinct possibilty) it's will be a huge game changer for cruises out of Galveston.

My only ask for RCL is they consider alternate itineraries for us here in Galveston.  Would love to be able to get to Coco Cay or at least some other alternate ports from here other than Roatan, Cozumel and Costa Maya, even if it meant a 9 or 10 day cruise.

You're in luck. RCL will be going to Coco Cay from Galveston starting in Feb. 2023. Although it will be the Radience OTS instead of the Allure.

Up through 2014 or so, I used to get a rum and coke or any other simple drink for $6.

Yeah, and up until 2014 there were more choices in the packages too. I drink mostly beer, and my wife drinks wine. When RC modified the packages in 2105 they became way less attractive to us. Now, the DBP prices are of little value for those who mostly drink beer and wine. For reference, here's a blast from the past...

I just called and asked how much a cruise transfer from ship to William Hobby Airport is and I was told it's $31.99 a person.  That seems reasonable.  We have never used a cruise transfer before.  I'm going to check into other shuttles or cars too.

Via the cruise line? That's going to be a hard price to beat along a guarantee you'll get on the ship.

Parking fees at the stadium will also make people stop complaining about parking at the port as well
my season-ticket parking passes for this year were, I believe $175 per game (and you were not allowed to opt out of preseason)

That's why we take limos to the games. It cost less $ and we don't have to hassle with DFW traffic.

We like visiting New York City, the 70 something dollars that rccl charges would be good for 3 or 4 drinks at best . Price of everything is going up including the price of liquor.

True, but the local watering hole in NYC doesn't have the bulk purchasing power that RC does.

it's still a good deal for a lot of cruisers.

Saying it's a good deal is tantamount to the sunk cost fallacy. The cruise lines have a captive audience and unless someone skirts the alcohol policies, they will have to pay whatever the cruise line charges. So, many will drink copiously just to 'break even'. That doesn't necessarily make it a good deal for the consumer, but it is a effective rationalization for them to justify the cost.

Is it just me or has the Deluxe Beverage Package prices so high it no longer makes sense to buy it?

It's not just you. We've bought the DBP in the past, but never paid more than $58.99 a day pre-Covid. Even after the return to sailing, the first two cruises we took, the DBP was never higher than $62.99.

In our Cruise Planner for a Jan. cruise, the price has gone as low as $67.99 + grats a day and has gone as high as $77.99. Now it's at $72.99. There's no way are we going to pay over $1200 for a DBP. As long as people are willing to buy at the current prices, they're going to stay high. We'll manage just fine with our daily drink coupons and carry on wine.
