We took this cruise before Terry and were on the Wind. His story telling and pictures are fabulous, but as a previous poster said don't do it justice. IMHO you are lucky to do this on the Whisper. We just finished the Chilean fjords on her and despite some bad weather absolutely loved the ship and the trip. I wish we had had the opportunity to do a musk ox excursion-but let me say the other two you have chosen imo are terrific. We found the cost of doing independent trips-at least with a guide-way too expensive compared to SS's prices.

Cintipam, We stayed at the Marriott which is right near Tivoli and has its own river tour stop. When we did the cruise it was the SS hotel of choice. We used Marriott points.
-
Also still wondering, did you actually go to the NC and how about the farm in the mountains?
-
Good for you Terry:). My experience on SS & RSSC has been 3-5 lbs. Our Tauck river cruise was also similar even though we did a lot of walking. You and I are the same size, so I'm guessing you have more discipline to push the plate away:D.

Colonel Wes, Just as an example, I looked at the pictures of Terry's World Cup party and shuddered. I would love to do that, but I am thinking several hundred $ on the shipboard account. I have no idea what Terry paid if anything but you get what I mean.

Colonel Wes, Very interesting post. I guess my problem is I don't like to ask for extra as I do associate that with more money. Certainly SS doesn't encourage you to try for the above and beyond that Terry and Ductape received. Should one expect it? We are not demanding types and therefore maybe we leave the best on the table. I still feel that the Cloud voyage Terry took was quite a bit different than the Wind trip we took 3 years ago. SS should imo try to standardize service or encourage patrons to ask for what special services they want. Your thoughts?

Hi Terry, Wish I had your computer skills to post such wonderful pictures. I was fascinated to see that all good photographers take a picture of their ship in the fjord. You obviously had as good a time as we did. Interesting to me was how much more effort SS made for your trip. Ductape had a lot to do with that but imo the service level should be more uniform. No resentment, just surprise. We had a terrific time. Still interested to find out; did you go to the North Cape itself or just look from offshore and did you skip the farm in the mountains-sounds like you did. Whatever, thanks for posting and the great pictures. I wish I could do as good a job as we now do the Chilean fjords on the Whisper.:)

Terry, you are so lucky. The Wind docked in exactly the same place and because of timing problems we walked to the merchant area with the rain coming down sideways. I will say, however, once we got there they made out well. We took the excursion to Ollie Bulle's house (a great Norwegian violinist) which despite the rain was wonderful. Did you enjoy your trip across the roof of Norway, despite the weather, and did you do the farm trip?

We had Jorge on the Wind for our Norway trip. He does a wonderful job!

Terry, Mr. Scales gives us info we may not want to know,i.e. lbs. gained:eek:

I must admit, Terry, this is way more than we got on our Wind cruise. I plan to have my TA call SS and find out what you guys did right that we missed out on. The trip is still similar, but this breakfast is over the top. Enjoy your next visit with Mr. Scales.
Best, Newlondon

Terry, Great stuff. You are so going to love your 8 hr. tour!

Alexandra, We took this cruise on the Wind and there were no problems with the seas. Most of the cruise is on inside waters and so very rarely rough. My DW has motion problems and she was totally happy. There is no best side for cabins as the cruise is an out and back. In addition in the fjords both sides are spectacular.

You're so lucky, Terry, to have the chance to see the midnight sun. Many cruisers never see anything except clouds and fog. We had the added bonus of mid-70's temps. Did you take the trip to the cape itself?
-
Fun pictures Terry, but as I predicted the weather looks as if it is beginning to be unpredictable. The Lofotens are wonderful--we visited on the return trip. Good luck at the NC, hope you have the success we did.

wcc19 & Cruzemaven, Couldn't agree with you more. We took this cruise in Silver Wind and loved it. WE, however, did not have a galley lunch; nor did we ever spot a spoon of caviar. This was only 4 years ago. In addition we had Sr Lefebrve aboard. Wonder why there appears to be a special cruise v what the rest of us get. We are going on Silver Whisper in Dec to South America; what a treat it would be to receive this special treatment. Silversea I know you read these posts!!!

Eating outside will be a function of the summer you get. We were exceptionally lucky, temperature wise, but there was plenty of rain. My best guess is don't count on it. I can't comment on dressing with-in 50 lbs. as we travelled business and so had over 70. We also adhered strictly to the dress code with a tuxedo and more than one formal outfit for DW. I don't blame you for being excited; it's a wonderful trip and a terrific ship!
