  1. I believe they don't credit you for stock ownership until you prove to them that you still own the stock at or close to sale date.   Late in 2023 for a late 2024 cruise allows too much time for the shareholder to dispose of the shares after claiming the credit.   We have gotten the credit several times, by producing a page from our Fidelity account, showing the holding.  But it has always been shortly before the sailing date (maybe 30-45 days)

We booked what I thought what was going to be my first "Milestone Cruise" on the Vista for this December.  Our Oceania Ambassador on board my recent ATW sold it to me on board, based on my having accumulated 30 cruise credits...15 from my solo 2019 ATW, and 15 from this years, (sharing with my wife).   We had used her "Milestone Cruise", (earned prior to our wedding),  for the segment from Miami to San Francisco.   Since I was included with her on that, they now say that I had already had my first Milestone (even though I had not yet earned it at that time).   That was contrary to what the O Club Ambassador promised.   As instructed by the Ambassador, prior to the final payment date, I notified Oceania that I wished to take this as my Milestone cruise. A couple of days ago, Oceania told me I had to pay in full, as I already had my milestone cruise.  They even claimed this new one would have been my third!   My wife had one previous to us meeting, and the one we shared in December was her second.

Anyway, we canceled the Vista, since we only booked it because we thought it was going to be a Milestone.  So I also lost the on board booking bonus special they had offered at the time. I am rather disappointed in this misunderstanding.  Their policy doesn't seem clear, to me.

I am aghast at the way they denied you the perk you understood you were purchasing!  I recall when I first read about your happy love story onboard Oceania, and you have certainly been an ambassador of good cheer and resilience during a difficult time in your life, turning into a wonderful story.  You deserve much more from Oceania and I for one hope they realize that, before they lose you and your lovely bride to a competitor.   No cruise line is indispensable, but passengers like you are indeed.

  3. Last time we cruised from Miami, we took the free shuttle to the Miami Airport Hilton (Blue Lagoon)  Despite some iffy reviews, we found it to be just fine, with a very nice pool overlooking a lake.  I can't remember the restaurant meal, but it wasn't awful or I would remember it.   In the morning we took an uber to the port, which was nominal cost (probably around $25?) and certainly worth it rather than schlepping everything back onto the hotel shuttle to the airport to the Oceania shuttle!  Why would we want to do that???   The uber picked us up on the circle in front of the hotel.  Easy peasy    Enjoy!

  4. I agree that, depending on your departure country, you may need to meet the 270 day rule.  We are sailing from Italy on Nov 11th, and unless I misread the recent Oceania directive relative to our cruise, we have to have at least a booster within the 270 day window.   You are wise in any event, to get yourself the newest booster.

  5. So, we are flying into FCO (Rome) the day before our departure, and staying at the airport Hilton.  Oceania will allow us to return to the airport arrival area to board a transport van to the port of Civi.., for a fee of I think $75 per person.  It's offered on the website under managing our trip.   But it is cheaper for us to book a private car from Cab Roma, which will pick us up in front of the hotel at the time we specified.   I believe the fee is $134 for the two of us in the car.   Preferable on several levels, imho.

  6. I personally don't think the Oceania Alaska itineraries allow one enough flexibility to see the part of Alaska that doesn't hug the Canadian West coast from Seattle or Vancouver north to Seward or Whittier.   Alaska has so much to offer to visitors; we flew into Anchorage, rented a car and drove north to Denali, stayed 2 nights in the Princess lodge up north, and another night in the Southern Princess lodge.  Easy driving, booked the hotels through the 'land desk' at Princess and joined a one way 7 day southbound cruise from Whittier to Vancouver.  That way, we saw Anchorage (a lovely city), and the fantastic Denali landscape, as well as several of the little towns along the southern coastline (Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway)  One can also fly to Fairbanks and drive south through Denali toward Anchorage, then onto the ship.  I wish Oceania had a one way northbound or southbound itinerary.  We'd go again in a heartbeat.   It's such a distance from the Eastcoast that it's a shame to not see the mountains and towns in another part of the state. Just my opinion.

  7. I have just booked RomeCabs for the trip from the airport to port.   We are actually arriving a day earlier and staying at the airport Hilton, thanks to recommendations from this board.  The driver will pick us up at the hotel lobby mid day on departure date.   the fare for the 2 of us in a private car is 130 euro.   It may be RomaCabs, not sure.

I logged on to my next cruise to check. In the tabs where you can add shore excursions, etc. there is a "Transfers and Visas" tab. This is what mine says, "

    Transfers
    You have no transfers

Oceania Cruises provides optional transfers between the airport and ship on day of embarkation or disembarkation. Your Pre- or Post-transfers are included at no additional expense when you reserve a Pre- or Post-Hotel package."

    "

thanks for the heads up.   we are not buying a pre nor post cruise hotel package, as I really think they are too pricey.  I did check my trip on the oceania website, and it offers a connection to the port from the airport, priced at $69. pp.   it is described as 'c/o transportation to port'.   not sure what c/o means, but a private car is actually cheaper for 2 than $138., so we'll go that route.   Again, thanks.

    Dear W:

We have stayed at the Hilton Airport several times.  It is a short cab ride (20 mins.) to the port. There is also a pay shuttle available.  Hilton offers a free daily trip to Rome (morning to and late afternoon back) or you could tour Civitavecchia.  The Hotel is connected to the International Terminal.

  10. Is it possible to pay a fee and  use the ground transportation from the airport (in this case, Rome), to the port (in this case, Civitavecchia (sp?)) if one has not bought the Oceania air plan?   We are flying into Rome the day before embarkation, but will stay at the airport Hilton and go to the port the day of our sailing.   Has anyone done this?

  11. Perhaps I'm on the wrong site for my question, but I searched 'Lisbon' and was brought to your string...We are cruising from Rome to Barcelona in November (Oceania) and our flight from JFK stops in Lisbon enroute to Rome, with a 90 minute window to change airplanes.   I have read recently with distress about 4 hour delays in Lisbon, and wonder if travelers enroute to Italy will have to clear customs in Portugal prior to the change of airplanes.  If that is so, we could easily miss the connection to Rome, which would be really bad.....Anyone know at what point Customs and baggage check comes into play - Lisbon, or final destination, Rome.   FWIW, we will have only carryone baggage.   Thanks in advance

  12. You are correct, Flatbush Flyer.   I searched old emails and indeed have located the invoice, sent to me with the final change of itinerary and date.  This thing was changed so many times, with the deposit being carried forward each time, that I lost track of all the emails.   Thank you for jogging my memory with your good advice.  Jwh

  13. I am booked on Marina - November 11th, and am trying to be sure I am on top of deadlines and payment details.  this voyage has been rescheduled for us 3 times, and I hope it really happens.  I have 'guest statements' from the other 3 itineraries, but cannot figure out how to access this when I go to Manage this Booking, or any other 'my account' areas of the website.   It's a statement that outlines the price of the cruise, and the payment made, along with any extras already ordered.  Thanks in advance.

  14. Jazzbeau, I don't know what the qualifications are to be a 'host' or a 'moderator' as your tag suggests, but I would hope you would hold yourself to a higher standards than we lesser folk.  The cruisecritic message boards protocol urges us to be civil, and I for one think your snark to Dan is rude and uncalled for.  I bettcha you have things you are not savvy about, but you have perhaps managed to protect yourself from the barbs by not admitting to your technological deficits.   Let's be nice....

  15. I you purchase 100 shares of NCLH just before your cruise date and sell it after you arrive home again, as several folks have pointed out, your risk is mitigated, and you pocket $100 in benefits minimum.  Chances are the stock price will not be so volatile within the 7-13 day period of your cruise  to make much of a dent in the benefit.   As for the dividend, if you were to pay $32 for each of 100 shares, your $100 shipboard credit would amount to over 3% return on the investment within 1 week!   That's a hell of a return, if you ask me.   ($100 divided by $3200 = 3.125% - not annually, but in a week)  Obviously the risk increased if the price goes up, but you don't have to decide until the month you sail.  Certainly nothing to plan retirement strategy around, but probably nothing to stress about at this early point either!

  16. I think we all need to be a little kinder to each other, especially folks that perhaps don't have the time nor energy to search and read all the policy and preference stuff that floats around on cruise boards.  If it is offensive to any reader to have to endure another question that he or she deems repetitive or less than worthy, that reader should simply ignore the post and let someone else, less invested in the correctness of the whole thing, answer.   the idea is to get the info out to the inquirer, and hopefully, spread cheer and good will to all.   Not that I've always done that.....  But i'm trying.  I just think some folks take themselves way too seriously!     btw, what does itb mean?

  17. It's not necessarily good advice to suggest that someone sell a security that has grown in value because they will have to pay a tax.  First of all, it's not a certainty that the tax law will change in the fashion that Hawaiidan suggests (and if it does, it will probably be for folks with very high adjusted gross earnings anyway-over $400k)  The tax is not an ordinary income tax, but a capital gain tax on the net capital gains for the year (you could have offsetting losses), and the tax generally less than ordinary income tax and is never 100%.   Tell you what, Hawaiidan - Give me your gain and I'll pay the tax on it!  You should never sell a stock just because you might have to pay gains tax if you keep it and it goes up further - that's just crazy

  18. good point.  we were onboard 5/20/18-5/28/18, 'postcards from cuba'.   i don't recall the decor, but the cabin layout did not include a sofa (a chair instead), to allow space for wheelchair movement.  there was plenty of room for the additional chair, since we did not use a wheelchair.

  19. one more tidbit on cabin 4035, for what it's worth Tom.   It looks nothing like the brochure picture - the bed is on the left wall as you enter from the hallway, with the 'seating area' straight ahead as you enter.  There was only one chair (plus the desk stool) in the room, but we asked for another chair, which was promptly delivered.  Lots of closet space and a big bathroom with a roll in shower on the right side of the suite.  The fact that it was an inside cabin was of no consequence to us, because, as is your cruise, you are probably up and out of the cabin every single day on the itinerary you have.   I hope you sail!  ps my sister has lived in London for 30 yrs, and we've so enjoyed our visits to your fantastic city!

Waiting on being moved from 4035 on Sirena for our 5/21 trip as it has an interconnecting door to the medical centre...Not had any feedback from Oceania about it yet.

not sure I recall Port or Starboard side of the ship, but cabin 4035 absolutely did not have a door connecting to the medical center when we occupied it on our trip to Cuba in May of 2018.   It was an accessible cabin, which we didn't ask for or require, but as it happened, it was extra roomy with a large bathroom.   You should be sure that whoever is telling you there is a door to the medical center is sure before you give up the cabin, if you require the handicapped floorplan.

  21. I note with interest the decrease in the 'know it all' postings of people back in the early weeks in May, particularly in areas then safe, but now brought right up to the edge of fragility.   How's all that rhetoric working for you now folks?   I can tell you this disease is nasty, and if you get it, you may not die, but you will be sick, sick, sick....and you may very well have residual damage done to your organs that will not present for years.  I live in an area of the country that has taken this thing very seriously, acted accordingly, and fortunately, seem to have come out on the other side relatively safely - for now...  Our area was a metro NY hot spot, and our own and our fellow humans' health and economic survival have remained uppermost in everyone's mind.   I am proud to be a first responder in this market, and I can tell you that some of you who spout off about how personal choice and personal freedom and comfort and long plane rides with a mask being not your thing have just never seen (at least in early May when you were so vocal)  a really sick person, old or young, just unable to draw a deep breath.   Or realizing that, however much oxygen  is getting delivered, it's just not able to be converted absorbed and saturated from the lungs to the blood.   Wear your mask, wash your hands, don't go near people in crowds, and be thankful you are well.   We can turn this thing into good if we try.
