1. Do a dummy booking at the RC site and you will probably see that the fare will be higher then they can do the 50% off and give you some OBC. I did this with my sailing and it came out the same. So no savings for me.

This is a good idea. I ran the numbers of the sale for an Oasis cruise DD & I were planning to book for 2016. We booked! The deal was really a deal for us. Since this is not always the case, run the dummy booking as suggested.

  2.
Can you use diamond plus balcony discount during Wow sale? thank you
I booked our Oasis cruise during the current WOW sale a few weeks back. I not only received a very good price (less than our Allure cruise last April) but $200 in OBC for booking a balcony or higher. When all was said & done with the arrangements with my TA, I called C & A to check about getting my Platinum balcony discount. The rep I talked to said I could get it, no problem, but I would loose my OBC (must have been in the small print somewhere on the WOW sale brochure). That would mean I would get the $100 C&A balcony applied to my booking but loose $200 OBC= not a wise mathematical decision, as she pointed out.

I stayed with the WOW sale OBC option. If anyone gets another reply from C & A that says the balcony discount & WOW OBC is combineable, could you please come back & post the info here?

    Thanks!
  3. Correction.... Not Majesty of the Seas but the former Monarch of the Seas.

WHEW!!! And here I thought RC had done away with Majesty too...our first cruise ship!!:(;)

Really enjoying your review & all your lovely pictures, esp. the Jewel pics. We will be sailing on Jewel next October on the West Coast. This will be our first cruise on this class of ship (our TA'a favorite). Your review & pictures are really helping me get through this loooong wait!

    Thank You!!!

  4. Can you step back in time? I often ask myself that question. As I stepped into the Centrum I tried to remember what it felt like on my first cruise when I stepped into the Centrum of the Sovereign. I know it made a bigger impact then because the whole experience was a complete unknown. But it was still a cool experience to be once again surrounded by all that glass and brass. Let the party begin!

My answer to your question above is 'Yes'! :D Our first cruise was Majesty. She still looks great (thanks for the pictures!) & brings back some great memories, as I sit here enjoying your review & wishing my next cruise was next week instead of next year!:( Way too many 'nexts'! LOL

  5. Sept/Oct doesn't seem like the ideal time of year for going up the coast and back. Won't it be a little chilly out on deck or balcony? Have any of you done a similar one before? Just wondering if this is more about being on a ship than visiting those cities.

For us, it is all about the ship and the cities! Coming from the hotter part of the southwest, we are looking forward to cool & possibly chilly!:D

We did sail a Mariner West Coast cruise (the Swine Flu cruise) and loved the cooler weather! We booked the Oct. Jewel cruise the first week it opened. Also talked friends into booking too. Counting down the days:p

  6. I tried the large ziplock bag method on our most recent cruise. I bought the huge ziplock bags & put my folded clothes in them. I squished out all the air (put an empty suitcase on top of the bag with just the ziplock part exposed).

This method was said to work great but I really wasn't impressed when I went to unpack on the ship. Some of my items were slightly wrinkled & some were very wrinkled. Guess it also depends on the material. The big plus to this method was space. It was amazing how much I got into a medium suitcase with all the flat ziplock bags! I was able to leave our large suitcases at home.

Anyway, I had better results with rolling so will continue to use that combined with the squished ziplock bags (for those items that didn't wrinkle so much).

  7. Does ValueTrips offer hotels in San Pedro? I have tried their LA area hotel link several times over the last month & it won't work for me. San Diego comes right up but not LA. Had a great experience with ValueTrips in Ft. Lauderdale recently & would like to use them again.

    Thanks for any advice!

  8. I agree! So much better!

I've been to Chops twice, and each time I've left quite disappointed. Giovanni's steak is wonderful and much better than Chops (though I am partial to Giovanni's osso buco)

I have to agree with this post. DD had a wonderful petite filet in Giovanni's. She ordered the same item at Chops. While she said the Chops fillet was OK, she felt that the one she had at Giovanni's was more tender & flavorful (and larger!). I, on the other hand, didn't care too much for my dinner at Chops & will probably pass on going there on our next cruise.

  9. We've stayed in a hump cabin on 2 occasions, both being on Mariner (Voyager Class) & in the same cabin. The cabin (7324 If I am remembering correctly) was a bit larger due to the fact that it was at the start (aft) of the swing out. There was a v-shaped wedge addition to our cabin by the balcony door that was not evident on some of the other more forward hump cabins. While we really liked the hump cabins, we did have some blockage to our forward ship views. Not out to sea views, but along the hull of the ship forward. No biggie as we would book a hump cabin again in the future. Just our observations:p

  10. So I asked about this months ago and the electronic C and A coupons were still pretty new. I'm wondering if there are more clear answers or similar answers. When I first asked, the answers were scattered.

Are your C and A discounts being automatically applied OR do you have to ask for it to be applied (or do they ask you)?

So for example, I get a discount on the internet package. Do I have to ask or should it be automatically applied. Another example is getting a free beverage. Do they automatically apply it or do I have to ask about it?

    Thanks in advance....

On our recent Allure cruise, some of the discounts were automatically applied & some were not. I didn't realize this until we had returned from the cruise. I just assumed they all would be applied automatically. I know they were listed on the cabin TV but we rarely turned that on. Next time, I am printing out the list of discounts so I can keep better track of them.

  11. That how our room is laid out as well.

Since our last closets were like this in our stateroom I think I'm in for a bit of a shock this time...lol

Sent from my iPad using Forums

LOL! Yep, you are!:D Might want to bring some extra clothes hangers. We were glad we did. There never seems to be enough clothes hangers in the closets. Due to the size of Allure's closets, we ended up hanging multiple items on each hanger (we sorted them by item, t-shirts together, pants together, etc.) Have had to do this on all our cruises, no matter what size the closets were, due to the shortage of hangers. On Allure, it was the shortage of closet space. Not complaining...it really was a non issue for us. Enjoy your cruise!!

  12. Will we be able to store suitcases under the bed? By the looks of our room there is very limited closet space.

One thing we loved about our last cruise on a different line was that the bed was raised slightly so we were able to slide the suitcases under it with no problem.

Our 2 larger bags did not fit (and these were not our largest suitcases as we had left them at home). Tried to lift the frame a little but it wouldn't budge (hadn't had our first Drink of the Day yet!:p). We ended up putting them in the corner of the cabin by the balcony door. We had the bed by the balcony set-up on our BW balcony cabin. We didn't find them to be in our way in that corner. The closet is small by comparison to other classes of RCCL ships that we have sailed on. But we didn't let this bother us at all...we were on ALLURE!!!:D Our best cruise ever & our most favorite ship to date! We still miss her.:(

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  13. We will be traveling with friends on our 2015 Jewel cruise. We have neighboring balcony cabins & were wondering if the partitions between them can be opened to join the two. I have been on cruises where staff does open them if requested but have also been on ships where it was not allowed.

Does anyone know what the policy might be on Jewel?

    Thanks for any info!!
