The wind and rain/snow rough seas could make people scared. 40 ft. seas on a 1000 ft. ship really is not that rough. the Capt. new that. My wife took a trans Atlantic as a kid. Back then ships were transportation not a vacation.

30 foot waves are scary. That is not normal.

Lets go Cod fishing next November.on a 65 ft. boat. in 30 ft. seas.

My wife and I have been concerned about the earth Quake also. My son is on The Independance OTS in Labadee Hati today, leaving to go Jamaica. Seems like nothing to worry about. I hope.

Could it be the door frame was there and the glass was broken. That seems logical. From what i saw on the BA those doors are strong.

And the original topic was ?

If the bars and kitchens were shut down I'd want compensation too.

point taken. Udp works for us.

I disagree, I can get a decent wine for under $15, pay the fee, save money and not drink a $5 bottle of wine.
Point taken. UDP works for us.

Our go to travel wine is a twist top. Surely they wouldn’t charge the corking fee still? *♀️

It only pays if you bring really good wine. $15. corkage plus say $15. for your bottles you might as well pay $35. for their wine and you don't have to lug it around.

Was onboard...it was not as bad as some say. One partially sleepless night, no seasickness, and a slow return to port. I wouldn't hesitate to return to NCL and Breakaway. I know some folks had a more harrowing experience, but for most, it wasn't that bad.
Thanks for the positive post. I'm sure it was not enjoyable. I saw on the news the pool was almost full spilling water all over the deck. Iv'e been on cruises where they drained the pool down to half. I think that might be why so much water leaked down the stairs.

When I was on the BA I thought the balcony doors were thick strong with a good lock. The balcony dividers I thought were thin and light weight. not so strong. I agree with your post 100%

Hey cruisers. My mom and I are going on a fun Sky trip at the end of January. I can’t seem to find anything under port of call or under roll call.
Wondering if anyone has suggestions of what to do when we stop at Grand Bahamas Island? On the NCL website, it’s not showing any excursions at all to plan for this Island. I’d like to get off ship to explore because we’ve never been before. Do you guys do excursions with the ship or different party excursion providers?
Thank you and we hope to get responses!
Happy (almost) New Year!

Sorry for going on a rant about how much I like Freeport/Grand Bahama. I looked on NCL's website and found no excursions for Freeport. You can search for Freeport Grand Bahama Island. Funny thing The Carnival CL website has all their excursions for the island. Maybe NCL is just starting to sail there. They do have tours and excursions at the curb. dockside. well organized up&up biz. type people

The actual port in Freeport is industrial...you will have to leave the port area to do almost anything. A guidebook is a very useful reference when you're going someplace you've never been. Libraries have them in the reference section!
It use to be not anymore. They redid the cruise docks and built a new container term. across the channel. If you haven't been there in a while its all new with shops and bars right at the pier. I like it there.

Been to Freeport a few times. Many years ago it was a dump. Last time we were there I was impressed at the work that had been done to make it a welcoming port. Lots to do there and we like it better then Nassau. I wish more cruises went to Freeport rather then Nassau.

We went to Taste or Savor for breakfast and lunch most days. We had dinner at Manhattan DR at night, its a bit more upscale and had singers and dancers. That worked well for us.Enjoy.

Give NCL a try. Its like Chevy vs. Ford or Pepsi Vs. Coke or Marriot Vs. Hilton. All good.

O'Sheehans sold milkshakes for a like $3.00 or $3.50 on the Breakaway. I would think O'Sheehans on Jade might have them as well.

Thanks so much for your review. After seeing that show on the Discovery channel about the Cuban mechanics fixing their old cars with anything that works. It was great that Pres. Obama opened up trade and travel to Cuba. I thought now they could get proper parts from the U.S. new or used. to fix their old American cars.Maybe I'll get to visit Cuba someday.

We just got back from Escape on Saturday. By Wednesday my hubby had sore throat and it got worse as the week went on. He's going to the doctor tomorrow because he thinks he has a sinus infection.
We always use the hand sanitizer before we eat our meals and we always wash our hands thoroughly in the restroom. But we are constantly handing our key card to the waitress for drinks. And we don't wash our hands each time we get the key card back.
There are so many people on these ships. I'm just curious what you do to try to stay healthy while on board.
Thanks
I also wash my hands often, use sanitizer use paper to open jons door.I avoid the buffet during rush hours. Six of us got off the BA and all of us had sore itchy throats with a bad cough the last day for two and two days later for the rest of us. We thought maybe the cold to warm then back to cold was the cause. Besides some rain it wasn't as cold as it could have been. The two that felt sick first got Z pac's and are fine. Nothing serious.

We were also on the sailing with you. Six adults three cabins no offspring. We all had a great time. Food and service were good sometimes great sometimes slow. We only went to the buffet for a snack and I don't care for them. O'sheehans was good for a late night snack or ice cream. A bad day on a cruise is better then a good day at work.

Thought some might be interested in the plan for those currently on the Gem. We are docking around 1am in Barbados. Four flights are scheduled on Friday and three flights for Saturday. All are charters flying to Newark. All guests will need to clear Immigration on board the ship on Friday. Three flights leave Friday morning, one flight Friday evening and three flights Sat. morning. Everyone was assigned a flight/departure time based on post cruise information submitted to the ship on Thursday morning. Luggage needs to be outside you room by 10pm for morning departures.
Now here's the kicker, the departure times (leaving the ship) for Friday flights are 3:30am, 5:30am, 6:30am and 5:30pm. Immigration processes starts 1 & 1/2 hours before departure (that's 2am for the first group).
Sat departures at 4am, 5am, and 6am...but these folks will have already cleared immigration on Friday.
Breakfast buffet will be available beginning at 1am
No news yet for those folks that can't fly.

I feel bad for you and everyone on board that is dealing with this. Wow just Wow. Breakfast at 1am thats when I'd be at O'Sheehans getting wings and a beer. Will the bars be open?

Mking Thanks for your post cruise review. after reading it I now understand what Thumper was trying to say in his thread. A lot of little mistakes/mishaps that should not happen happened. I hope the crew does a better job next week. All the cutbacks on CCL made us try NCL. We enjoyed our last two w/NCL now I'm a little worried.
-
I've never had a bad cruise. Were some better then others. Yes. If no one gets sick [Noro] No one falls overboard or gets air lifted at sea and the ship makes it back to home port. It was a good cruise. I hope I enjoy my cruise next week on the Breakaway.
-
Thank You Mking for all the great pic's and info. We sail the Breakaway next Sunday. Nervous and excited at the same time seven days to go, Woo Hoo.
