  1. Hope she’s not getting on the same ship I’m getting on next week!   I’d actually be angry.... Very selfish move.   Sorry the other couple can’t cruise without her.   And yes, she could have been exposed walking from one plane to another.  Don’t you think the people working at the airport could have been exposed since they live there?  Other travelers? She might be able to get away with it but it would be just wrong.

  2. According to my doctor the vaccine has about a 10% failure rate. Both my girls were vaccinated. One got the mumps at 4 yo (mild case but confirmed with blood test ) and the other daughter tittered negative to the measles virus when she was tested upon entering nursing school...had to be re vaccinated. The MMR is NOT 100% effective to the viruses.

I agree though....some parents refusing vaccinations and that’s not good.

  3. We had a beautiful sunny day in glacier bay. I’m guessing the lower 60’s....not nearly as cold as Tracy arm. But again a little cooler as the ship pulled closer to the glacier. It was totally clear so we had a great view of all the mountains.

  4. We did this excursion last week. While we had mostly beautiful weather, in Tracy arm we experienced freezing rain. Be prepared even though it’s summer! At first I was disappointed that it was cloudy. The guide explained cloudy conditions gives you better color of the ice because of light refractory. We saw blue ice that I can’t even describe. This was by far my favorite excursion and enjoyed it even more than Glacier Bay!

  5. I know I keep reading about layers and I'm planning on bringing zip up hoodies, fleece vest, windproof/waterproof jacket. Do you still think I need to also bring a light down jacket? Weather for next week shows upper 60's during the day and 50's at night. Just your opinion. Packing is difficult and I don't want to bring something I really don't need. Thank you for your help! We're Alaska virgins...LOL

  6. I just now got the upgrade ”offer to bid” at 68 days out and it is a joke. Prices have fallen so much that a balcony is now only $10/person more than what I paid for an OV. Being that it is after final payment I can’t very well just rebook for that $10/

I did this on our upcoming Alaska cruise. We went from a balcony to PH suite for less than the minimum bid. All I did was call and they charged me the difference. Plus I got the extra free at sea promos I would not have gotten if I had bid and won the upgrade. Call them!

  7. Did you get your monocular? What do you think? Which one was it on Amazon?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

I received it from amazon last week and really like it! The monocular size is nice, compact. I tried it briefly with the iPhone adapter which works well. Took some nice telephoto pictures but I need to practice more to set it up better. You can’t beat the price (Feemic monocular 8x42 $29 Vankey cellphone adapter $13). I can’t wait to try these out on our upcoming trip! I know these are not the high quality of binoculars discussed on this thread but fits the bill for my budget. The monocular is clear and easy to use. Works for me! BTW...we have another pair of midrange $ binoculars we will be taking with us. The monocular was purchased so we each have something to use.

  8. I have the same problem as your husband and can never see right with binoculars! That was one reason I though this might be good.....plus the price is right. I have no interest in investing in an expensive camera so whatever pics I get from my iphone and existing point and shoot camera will have to be good enough....this trip is already way over budget for us. Monocular and adapter should be coming any day. I have plenty of time to practice before the trip. I’ll let you know how it works out.

  9. Anyone ever try a monocular? I just ordered an 8x42 from amazon. Small and compact with great reviews. Also ordered an adapter to take pictures with my iPhone. Wondering if anyone has had expierence with this and what you thought of it??

  10. We each had one large suitcase and a backpack. It was really easy to the Sheraton Seattle. I know some areas, you have to get off the light rail and then take a monorail to get to your hotel, but as far as the Sheraton goes, it was a breeze. There were signs everywhere in the airport to help you find the light rail. Once there, there are machines to buy your tickets ($3 per person). I think the airport is the first stop, so it's not crowded at all. The only are where it got a little tight was from Pioneer Square to Westlake, but that was only about 5 minutes of the ride. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We got off at the Westlake stop and walked up to street level. We could see the Sheraton from the street. It was about a block away. Super easy!

You mention about walking up to street level. I know we will each have a suitcase and carry on. Are there stairs we need to carry the luggage up? If so, how many?

  11. Don't play the bidding game if you want to move up. After final payment (and about 5 wks from the cruise) I found prices significantly dropped. I called into reservations and was able to pay for an upgrade from my balcony to a PH suite for a lot less than the minimum bid for the same cabin. By doing this I was able to pick my cabin and also receive ALL the perks. From what I've been reading with bidding, you only retain your original perks and no extra. Kind of a scam in my opinion.

  12. Probably no free laundry - but - contact your butler on board and see if a deal is available.

    Remember to tip accordingly.

Otherwise the mid-cruise bag deal is always available to everyone on board ($19.99).

Fill that sack/bag and then some - ask for another if possible - max it out !

Remember to inventory all the items going into the bag.

Thank you! I was just wondering.

  13. I actually just did it yesterday for our Alaskan cruise on the pearl in July. Originally in a balcony, I was able to buy up to an aft PH for less than the lowest possible upgrade bid for the same cabin. I thought this was really crazy since it also came with the extra free at sea perks I would not have gotten if I had bid. Go figure
