  1. Thanks all. A baby monitor is a great idea. Now another concern I have is the rooms available on our floor that can accommodate the kids are all connecting rooms. I have concerns about extra noise from the other room as well as the kids also disturbing their neighbors. This whole process of booking is getting old quickly. Besides trying to figure out a good cabin, the cost is getting out of hand. The kids will be charged same as adults as well as same gratuities. Not easy for young families and grams can only help out so much!

  2. I would like to book a balcony for my daughter's family on the same deck we're booked on (deck 11--Allure). She will be traveling with a 3yo and 1yo. She would like to sit on the balcony while they are sleeping and just crack the door so she can hear them. Would you recommend a Central Park or Boardwalk balcony. Is one quieter than the other? I know the Boardwalk maybe busier, but looks like the pools are more above Central Park and not sure if the noise travels down during the day? Would appreciate any opinions of both daytime and evening noise for both locations. Thanks!!

  3. Thank you all for the replies.

It's a shame that even though the insurance is secondary, I know of no primary health carrier that will pay international medical expenses. Again, that is why we all buy Travel Insurance.

I will now file a claim with my primary carrier.

My husband fell last year while in a port and suffered a concusion. His BC/BS insurance DID cover him even though he was out of the country. So cruise insurance was secondary. Only snag was that he had to pay up front for treatment then submit 1st to his insurance and then to cruise insurance.***Lots of frequent flyer miles for that CatScan in Grand Cayman!!

It made me also look into my insurance since we have different employers. My insurance also does cover me out of the country as well.

  4. Thank you.

In the past on a "kids sail free" promotion for example we have saved significantly so if that happened to be the upcoming sale would have been helpful to know.

Wow...that would be great. My husband and I just booked a cruise for Feb 2019. Thought I would invite my daughter's family to join us....until I found out that their 3yr old and a baby is charged the same as an adult! No Way!! Never realized that's how cruises charged. Maybe trying to discourage little ones? But then why promote and build ships geared towards families???

  5. We would like to take the train/bus White Pass tour. I read on a review that the person recommended the bus 1st as fog maybe an issue and viewing may not be as good.

Can anyone comment on fog in July? Is it very common? The options we're looking at are: train 1st--7:30am or bus 1st 8:30am. Also, would it be harder to get a good seat on the train (crowds) on one or the other?

    Thanks!!

  6. We will be sailing on NCL Pearl in July. This gives us time in Juneau 2pm to 10pm. The 2 options I'm torn between

**Whale watching with Harv and Marv's (5hr tour)

**Tracy Arm Fiord--ship sponsored tour lasting 8 hours.

I have read Tracy Arm Fiord is beautiful....this is our only option to see it as Adventure Bound only has morning tours not fitting into our schedule. Not quite sure who NCL contracts for this...if any one knows?? A little leary with the 8 hr time commitment??

Any input or experience would be much appreciated in helping me decide...Thanks in advance!!

  7. I love the look of Inn at the Market....but way out of our ballpark to spend. I took Gardyloo’s advice and checked out those recommendations. We ended up booking Mayflower Park. It looks like a nice place, close to where we want to be and I got a great price. Thank you for your help! ** And BTW.... I am big city smart living in Chicago. Haha

  8. Skip dessert in the main dining room and head up to the buffet for fresh made crepes. We did not discover this until the last night! Crepe station is located in the far aft of the cafe. Lots of choices for fillings and toppings. Trust me---don't miss it! Have Fun

  9. Thinking of staying here one night pre cruise in July. We like that it is downtown....close to Pikes Market. We are cruising out of Pier 66.

Seems prices a little more reasonable than other nearby hotels. Looking for opinions if you've stayed here?? How is the surrounding area? How is the walk back/forth to the market place?

I would also appreciate other recommendations for a good downtown hotel??

    Thanks!!

  10. the 7-day beverage package and any specialty dining package expired, on schedule, at the end of the 7th day. had to buy your own drinks.

I also was on this 12 day cruise and don't mean to hijack the thread but I can not say enough good things about the way NCL handled things. For the extra days we were ONLY charged gratuities ($13.99pp-balconly) which included a nice room and food (excluding uncharge resturants) Not a bad deal. What I do want to complain about is how many passengers complained about losing their beverage package. Really??? Just the port charges (3 days Cozumel) had to cost big $$$....let alone fuel for the journey back and forth to Miami to let off those that needed to get back and secure their homes. So if NCL recouped a even small amount good for them. We could have been dumped off at the pier 2 days before an incoming hurricane like Carnival did to their passengers. Saw most of them ended up in shelters.

P.S. to OP--I'm really enjoying your story!!

  11. We stayed there last May. Our room was street side and we were able to see the ships coming in very early morning. What I really enjoyed was the shopping area across the street. It was a nice place to spend some time the night before our cruise. While the shops were nothing to write home about, there was an area that offered a live band. We got a drink and enjoyed it! I would stay there again. We did eat breakfast in the hotel....it was expensive and nothing special----would skip it next time.

  12. I agree with those above. Rarely do I book a ship excursion, but the trip to JVD is an exception. Too far and too close on time to take a chance. JVD is not easy to get to by ferry either. It is one my favorite places and a must do whenever stopping in Tortola. I did book it again for my upcoming cruise and noticed that it is now sold out weeks before we sail. Don't drag your feet if you're going to do it.
