  1. It's about a mile north--you could walk it maybe 1 way and get a cab the other way. If you are carrying gear it will seem further. Rent gear at BDA or Dive Friends also at Sand Dollar. Never been there on a cruise but have made about 20 scuba trips to Bonaire.

  2. A short dive knife is ok on Carnival. My wife had a larger one on a cruise--she forgot to leave it at home--anyway, she had to leave it with security and could get it at the exit off the boat to use diving. But----this loud alarm went off when her Carnival Sail and Sign card went into the machine and those passengers nearby looked on with alarm....It was fun!! For me--wife--not so much!!

The Carnival FAQ sez what blade length is ok--I think 3.5 inches? Other lines-who knows!

We both always take scuba gear on cruises without problems except the above..............It is always checked with a porter at the ship.

  4. The last time we dove GT was in December,12 and it was just 2 of us. They stuck us on a boat with 2 students and we stayed atop the reef--while it's a nice reef, it wasn't why we chose to dive Grand Turk! We wanted the wall that we dove on a previous visit. The first time we had 4 divers, so no problem getting to the wall. Anyway, I will ask many questions next time.............anyway, we couldn't see the dropoff and the viz was very good with some shifting current--I thought at first after we all got in--that the guide was taking us to the wall, not so--or maybe we would have looked on our own.

  5. Blue Water for $80. for a 2 tank dive a few weeks ago. Nice diving, we would go for a week--but hotels seem overpriced.

btw, Sea Eye's boat was out of commission; so they put us on a Blue Water boat-no problem. Both operations seemed quite capable.

  6. in salt water!!! I, too, do not float well in fresh water. Later worked as a lifeguard and now am a 23 year PADI Divemaster who floats like a cork in salt water. The 3mil shorty is a good suggestion, keeps the sun off your back as well as the neoprene is floaty.

Try floating in shallow salt water with your snorkel vest deflated. And work from the result to a comfy situation in the water. Remember, you will be MUCH more bouyant in salt water.
