Do you think our cruise will still go to Key west and the Bahamas, looking at the tropical storm not named yet! we have to sail from Galveston Sunday thru it to Key West for our first stop.

Skayway - White pass train up and back, 8:30-11:30, then a little break the 3-5pm Ocean Raft Wildlife Adventure

Thoughts on this cruise:

I had been really excited about going to Alaska and about being on Legend. But this cruise far exceeded what I expected. Alaska, the southeastern ports we visited, is incredibly beautiful. I had read others’ reviews of Legend and how much everyone seemed to like this class of ship. I now fully agree, having experienced it myself. I love the size and the layout; it is very easy to get around and she’s a beautiful ship. Of course, I want to go back! And on Legend!

 

To those of you who have your first Alaskan cruise booked and are just counting down the days, you are going to be amazed and in awe. I promise. To those of you who have already been there, you know exactly what I'm talking about! Our Earth has so many beautiful and unique areas and this is definitely one of them. At least, to me. I'm sure there are similar areas that many of you "have" seen and visited, but I had never been to any place like this. It just makes me want to see more and more!

Thank you so much for sharing, we are setting sail on August 28th 2018 for our bucket list Alaska cruise, we are doing Seattle to Seattle with Glacier bay, 8 day so it was exciting to see your post. Was it Freezing cold most days? Seems like it only rained bad in Ketchican? we are trying to organize ourselves and there are 17 of us! All adults. flying in from Houston.

My husband and I did this when we were on a cruise that substituted Freeport for Grand Turk a couple of years ago. We had a good time. The food was good and the drinks were tasty. The use of snorkel gear and maybe non motorized water sports, was included. The pool was a little cool but I we were there in January. We didn't have any trouble finding a lounge chair but they do have a section roped off for the guests that are staying on the property. It was a nice day and we would go back.

Yes we did like it. It has been a several years but the pool was nice and very easy access to the beach. There was a little food/drink hut on the beach but we ate inside at the buffet. There were several areas to sit around the pool and a lot of pretty flowers in bloom. They had volleyball and an area where people we swinging on a trapeze. Not sure if that is still there.

Love the Lido deck, its easy to get to everything its not any noiser than any other floor, its sandwiched between rooms on floors below and above. convinent to walk out grab an ice cream, coffee etc breakfast and come back to your balcony. I would not take it if its located behind the elevators but apart from that take it!

Other than church, where he wears dress pants, he doesn't really go anywhere else that he can't wear them. It won't be a problem, I just had no idea and would have only packed his basketball shorts if I hadn't read that. I love this board, it's so informational for new cruisers! I'm addicted!

He can wear cargo shorts all nights except formal my husband does along with tennis shoes and a tshirt, for formal night you can just have him wear slacks and a dress shirt no tie or jacket needed, I have even seen someone wear black tennis shoes with their slacks!! LOL we get changed right after dinner no problem.

I have booked directly with Atlantis? why is everyone booking with the Comfort Suites? we paid $129 per person for the Waterpark and beach.

We are due to get to Seattle on Saturday from Texas is that too long in Seatlle? we are flying directly back after the cruise?

we were on the vista last year and it was very quiet the ship was full and around 14 people we saw on it the same people every day, it was wonderful! and no little kids! truly awesome if your cruising during the school holidays.

I think this post is so amusing, when did you last go to a hamburger joint and not speak? come on people they are there to serve you ask for what you want, you don't go shopping this way or to any restaurant your going to ask a server for what you want right not sit at Chili's and nod and expect your waitress to understand you! too funny people! I just got a cheese burger really people (sheep really) sorry but I love their burgers but have no hesitation to ask for how I want it.

there are just so many problems with this incident, response, coverage, and reaction to it.

 

1. As this society has been prone to do as of late the blame is always on everyone except the perpetrators of the act. The incident happened because the perpetrators committed the acts. This was no one else's fault bu theirs. They are solely to blame and all attention should be focused on punishing them.

 

2. The security team did nothing wrong. If you physically assault another passenger or crew member then you ought to have the ever loving crap beat out of you. (repeatedly) these clowns should have got more than they did. Unfortunately we have a free press that is hell bent on criticizing and demonizing law enforcement and authority at the present time while they heap praise on criminals. I haven't heard of anyone being hospitalized as a result of the actions taken by the security team so apparently they didn't brutalize them enough. Also, if a crew member instructs you not to do something then you don't do it. It you don't stand around and have a debate with them in the middle of the incident. A passenger aboard a cruise ship you don't have a "right" to film when you are told not to. If you don't like that, don't go on a privately owned cruise ship.

he should have been beaten beyond recognition.anyone who would assault a crew member like this has absolutely no respect for authority and is lucky he is still in one piece.

 

3. The press/media (or whatever you want to call them) starts with these overly sensational headlines using words like "bloodbath". Bloodbath??? Really??? I've watched the videos and read quite a bit about the story as well as seen the aftermath photos and calling it a bloodbath is downright dishonest. I watch all the ufc fights pretty much every weekend and what occurred on those videos doesn't even compare to ufc fights. Total bs from the press.

 

4. The reaction to this on cruise critic has been appalling in my opinion. Our society has become a bunch of self-entitled babies who don't respect any authority or rules. What the focus should be on now is prosecuting the individuals involved in this incident instead of a starting witch hunt against the cruise industry.

I don't blame security for having a go! 23 of these family members (huge ones) the guy in the pink short swing at everyone, the guy in the blue shirt looked like a carnival entertainment employee hold the culprit in place but was a lot smaller than the guy make all the violent gestures. I am sure the security guys and girls had just lost it and they are little in comparison to the instigators! Again I agree if the 23 people were trouble they should have been in the brig? is it big enough for that many? I have also seen people confined to their rooms before but 23? They should have taken them off sooner and or brought on law enforcement to handle them and talk to them. Just my two cents. reminds me of a cruise out of Miami where people were trying to intimidate others.....

We usually buy a bottle of vodka to have drinks on the balcony before dinner. It is very expensive compared to home BUT the per drink price still comes out cheaper than buying them at the bar.

Agreed we do the same with a bottle of crown, drinks in our cabin still less expensive than buying them at the bar at $9 plus grats each.

I dont know how they do it, I am taking three cruises this year no casino offers, but i have been on 7 cruises and I gamble every day, craps, blackjack slots and I never get a thing!

THANK YOU ALL for the replies we booked on the seaplane taku lodge, looks like we will join some friend on a water adventure in skagway, and still deciding on ketichan and victoria.

we did the full taku lodge tour while in juneau, in 2015. Imo, landing the floatplane in the river, with the-hole-in-the-wall glacier a few hundred yards away, is what makes this tour so worthwhile. If it was just the non-stop seaplane ride, for $200+, i would have been underwhelmed for that much money. The 2 hours at taku lodge really made it extra special. Besides the employee hospitality, and unbelievable salmon meal, enjoying the serene majesty of the area was a sight to behold. We also got to witness multiple bear sightings, and a wonderful nature walk. I know that you feel that the extra $110 per person seem like a lot for a lunch, but it is much more than "just" a lunch and it really makes the excursion memorable. It blows away any meal you can have in town, so you can save a few bucks, since a nice king crab meal in town is probably in the $35-$50 per person range. It is the best excursion i have ever done in my 18 cruises.

thank you for the insight we are booked on it now taku lodge and all, i gave it to my husband as one of his christmas presents. We are considering the train and one other option on water in skagway, and still looking at the other places,

we heard bad things about it before we went and we stopped by and the language was kinda blue from the lady piano player in there, we kept walking

We love it, that's the only dining we do! we get there usually there is a little line no big deal, go whatever time you like ask for a 4 top table, the only noticeable difference was on elegant night when I guess everyone goes to the dinning room, have been given a pager but never have i ever waited long than 30 mins. The freedom this allows you is awesome, getting back from excursion trying to get ready in time now its your time, you can stop at the taste bar if you want to go later on.

We on her last year from Miami on an 8 days Southern Caribbean cruise, we liked that they had a great dining room breakfast and the newer menu items, we ate breakfast there most days much nicer than the lines at the Lido.

The have a good Asian restaurant upstairs on the same floor as the Italian free for lunch get there early.

Go to the white night dance party get there early get a spot at the atrium bar and sing your lungs out with a bunch of disco hits etc, wear white was a blast.
