  1. It was only yesterday that I was recalling the humongous queue on the stair well to get through the casino. All so that we could have a temperature check for the ship to handover to local authorities so that we could get ashore.  It certainly was an experience.  Mind you, I did realise that actually, I could come to terms with non stop days at sea on a Transatlantic cruise.

Anyway we’ve plunged our rewards into the return leg, Cape Town to Dubai late January 22 so that we can catch up on what me missed.  Snagged a nice aft facing cabin courtesy of the 75% FCC.

  2. I’ve posted three new titles in the Norwegian Star Roll Calls grouping and one is incorrect so it needs removing but I can’t see how to do it.  Could you remove the erroneous title please it is headed

NORWEGIAN STAR - 23 JUNE 2022 REYKJAVIK TO LONDON (SOUTHAMPTON).

I didn’t include the start date in that version.  Afterwards I created an alternative heading including the start date. Please remove the Roll Call as titled just above.

    Thank you.

  3. I’m sure this information exists somewhere, but I haven’t been able to find it.  I’ve been hosting the Roll Call for the first time for several months now. We have an active band growing with a recent increase in numbers.  I have produced a spreadsheet for it and it’s available for members to edit accordingly.  My problem is that at several new entrants I get asked how they can access the spreadsheet.  Is there a way that I can automatically include the link to the spreadsheet on all of my posts? As I said at the start,  apologies if there is an easy way to get the info, but any help is gratefully accepted.

  4. Just received a call from a guy from this company informing me that they have been authorised to contact NCL customers on their behalf to sort issues regarding outstanding credit and FCC. I put the phone down on him explaining that it sounded like a scam to me. Almost immediately he redialled and when I didn’t answer he left a detailed message.  In the message he indicated that the company is not a sca, and that they had been given all sorts of information such as outstanding Cruisenext vouchers and FCC.  He also told me my wife and my own Latitiudes numbers and some future cruise plans.  Maybe that makes him genuine but it irritates me that I know nothing of this.  I have a designated NCL cruise co-ordination who we’ve worked with very happily for a couple of years now and I would expect to discuss future plans with him.  So this makes me wonder what NCL are playing at.  Are they playing fast and loose with personal details?  Have they replaced their own cruise consultants with this company?  If so why haven’t they told us?  As you have probably picked up, I’m a little suspicious of this approach despite the open nature of the call.  Has anyone else heard from them or dealt with them?

    Thanks for input.

  5. The Aegias Bowl on the outskirts of Southampton is a prime cricket venue.  If they happen to be hosting a 20/20 cricket game it could be interesting if you’re a sports fan. Unfortunately, fixtures won’t be available until next year.  Games last about 3 hours and are a lot quicker than you might have gathered from trad US attitudes to the game.  It’s certainly more active than baseball in this short format of the game. Google T20 cricket if you want more of an idea.

  6. I’ve just set up two Roll Calls for cruises from London to Reykjavik and reverse for next June 2021. I was being so clever cutting and pasting stuff that I overlooked changing the date on the second board.  I posted the title as “ 10-DAY ICELAND FROM REYKJAVIK TO LONDON: ENGLAND &IRELAND 6:06:2021” but the date should have read 17:06:2021.  Couldn’t find any way of editing the error.  Can you help?
    Thanks

We are booked on the 17 Feb sailing of the Norwegian Jade and very disappointed that NCL is not offering full refunds. We have decided not to go, even if we have to kiss over $3000 goodbye. I read this morning that the Norwegian Spirit is cancelling their Asian itinerary, so all we can hope for is that the Norwegian Jade follows suit. As far as I can tell, we have no legal recourse to force reimbursement, so we are at the mercy of NCL's decisions.

I hate to knock NCL for this, because we have had nice experiences with them in the past. But NCL needs to know that this will be our very last booking with them or with any Carnival-owned cruise, unless they come through and allow refunds.

Contacting NCL is nearly imposssible. If anyone has an email contact for them, it would be much appreciated.

Hi PhilBenz, you have my sympathies, friend.  All I would say is this.  My wife has immunity issues and we were due to go to China this week.  We took the decision that we wouldn’t be going but didn’t declare it to our TA and sat tight hoping that events would overtake, as they did.  That company, cruise.co.uk, cancelled the tour three days later with full refund, which included cancelling a RCI cruise which did not declare as much as a week after.  Not so rapid response as some RCI fans would seem to have us believe.  Folks were beside themselves with worry and all we could do was offer sympathy.  My advice, leave that phone alone, you know what you want but you might not necessarily get it if you cancel too soon.  Best wishes, Steve

  8. Never fails to amaze me how swiftly the NCL oppo rush to champion their preferred line and batter NCL.  Frankly it helps no one.

If Norwegian’s approach to the Jade is as described here then I find their behaviour baffling.  As an intended future cruiser to Japan aboard Norwegian Spirit I was disappointed but encouraged by the e-mail I found in my inbox explaining that our back to back cruises in October had been cancelled.  On contacting NCL UK I learned that in addition to full refund of any fees paid, I would also receive goodwill gestures representing 10% of the cost of each cruise against any NCL cruise booked within the next 45 days and up to $300 against airline charges.  I accept the latter could have stung  but in our case a change of airports in part of our itinerary notified but not acknowledged by ourselves gave a loophole for change of schedule which qualifies for full refund.  So all in I was very impressed by NCL’s forward planning to alleviate risk to the staff of the Spirit and future cruisers on the ship.

However it seems odd that they should set up communication teams to spread this news among cruisers who are still some 6 weeks plus away from sail date but don’t seem to be addressing issues surrounding impending cruises in Asia.  I suspect that’s because they are wanting to rush arrange fresh itineraries for the Spirit ( I understand it will be based at Athens) in order to meet demand for displaced cruisers. But certainly the welfare and health of current staff out in Asia and impending cruisers should have come first.

I would hope that they will get all passengers on the Jade sorted out in the same way that they did for us on the Spirit.  That is full refund, plus goodwill gesture plus airline assistance, which should be far higher than $300 as folks about to get on a cruise in a matter of days have little chance of rearranging flights swiftly.  In addition any Cruise Next vouchers used as deposits should be reinstated as ours have been.

As far as our cruise has been concerned, NCL has worked superbly in our interests. Hopefully they will address their inconsistencies very soon.  Good luck to everyone due to be sailing on board Norwegian Jade.

Hi, yep the 1 and only 🙂

Unfortunately not BA but Cathay Pacific so out of luck at the moment, I rang my travel insurance today who said I'm not covered for the flights as my final destination(Japan) hasn't been black listed by the UK government yet.

I might be able to change the flights to somewhere else but it depends if they fly somewhere we want to visit. plus i'm still waiting to hear directly from NCL that my cruise has been cancelled

    Thanks for the thought 🙂

    You're welcome.  Good luck!

I know they are not covering the costs of flights but until i've heard from NCL I'm gonna hold out on speaking to the airline However they don't fly directly to anywhere i would want to go to, so I would then have to find connecting flights as well.

Hi cybergremlin, is that Manchester UK? If so are you flying with BA?  We were going to fly with them returning Nov 6.  Last week I got an e-mail telling me that our return flight was to be changed from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport.  With everything that I had going on I didn’t get round to responding.  Anyway when I phoned them this afternoon they said that because it was a schedule change and I hadn’t accepted it counted as a case for full refund!  Does that help you?

Incidentally, I got through at third time of asking.  Rang the customer service team before lunch.  Waited 20 minutes but got no answer.  Tried again after lunch, lasted 25 minutes of no reply before cutting the line. Then rang the number for new bookings and answered in 2 minutes!  Just saying!

  11. Whoa hold the horses!  A little bit of immaturity creeping in here.  The biggest issue is how are NCL dealing with their customers.  You don’t need to flick far through these boards to find plenty of “I’ll never cruise with this company again!” posts about NCL.  So. Yes maybe it is a little premature, but at least it gives most people time to arrange alternatives, providing those customers have flexible vacation opportunities.  I feel sorry for those folks who have taken this trip in fixed vacation time and find that their opportunities are very limited.

  12. We passed through Puntarenas in March this year as part of a South America Cruise repositioning from Santiago to Miami.  As we’d visited Puntarenas before and done a 7 in 1 tour then we decided that we’d just hang around town and ship for the day. Not a good idea.  However, on our way back to the ship early morning we were approached by someone saying that they were about to depart for San Jose but had 2 spaces in the van, did we want them.  So as we’re doing the transit again in May just thought I’d ask whether anyone had experience of a San Jose excursion from Puntarenas?  Did you use one at the pierhead or did you find a provider and book pre cruise?  Any help gratefully received thank you.

Never sure where to post Central America queries so will double post this!
