  1. While I am definitely anxious for the new itineraries to become available, I am also curious to see if RC took my input regarding the studios to heart.

I wrote a letter to Adam Goldstein explaining that though I typically book a JS or D1 as a solo traveler, when I had become aware that QOS would have studio balconies with no single supplement, I, like many other people, was excited and under the impression that RCI was (in addition to the double or triple points for booking solo in other cabin classes) becoming more considerate of their loyal solo travelers: not having to pay the single supplement would allow me to cruise more.

I expressed my disappointment that when these studios were made available they were designated as being available for two people (and from what I had been able to ascertain from different web sites, including CC,) had been booked by twosomes thereby forcing many solo travelers to either again pay the single supplement or run over to NCL for a better rate.

I received a phone call back from someone "representing" Mr. Goldstein who spoke to me for about a half an hour who questioned me regarding my experience as a solo traveler aboard RCI. The representative told me that the double occupancy of the studio cabins was currently being reviewed and that on future sailings it might well be restricted to single occupancy.

So, I am patiently waiting (though doubtful) to see if this is the case.

I agree, studios should be on request only for couples. Or maybe they will be released for double occupancy within so many days of sailing. But no use saying they cater to singles, if they don't!

  2. We just may have to wait to sail Quantum. I just booked 14 nights on the Disney Magic to Baltics and Norway from June 6-20 for next year for DD and me. Kids get out of school on May 21st, so am hoping to take all 4 of us on QoS before the Disney cruise. But if it doesn't work out we'll do Oasis or new Navigator. DH and DS haven't been on Oasis so that'll be just as fun for them.

  3. Hello!

I just booked the Hyatt Place 17th St Convention Center (although it's actually on 10th St) through Priceline for 1 night pre-cruise in December. Do you know if there is a grocery store within walking distance where we can get water and last minute supplies? We're still debating on whether or not to rent a car. The care would give us more freedom, but then adds another item to do in the morning when we'd have to return it....

    Thanks!

    Wendy

  4. When the wife and I were on our 1st cruise last month, we found that generally, most passengers were very friendly toward us, but, there were a few occassions when we were felt to feel 'lower class', for example, eating in the windjammer on Indy one night, we both decided to have something a burger.

On a table nearby, there were a group of people, tutting, and muttering under their breath about "these young people always eating junk food!" (we're both in our 30's, and this was the only time, apart from JR's we ate burgers!)

Another time, my wife was told to "Shut up, girl!" by a woman reading, when she was talking to someone else by the pool. Others were complaining about the amount of 'young people and families'. It seemed to me that some of these people felt that cruising was the reserve of the upper classes, and the more 'senior' folk. I even said to one that if they felt that way, don't book a cruise on a ship like Indy, which is a family-ship.

do others experience this? Or is it a rare thing?

So sorry you had this experience! My DD and I lived in Belgium for 3 years and cruised Europe quite frequently - including a 10 nt on Indy out of the UK. We used to head straight for the burgers and hot dogs at the buffets, because that was the only time we got good ole' American "junk" food! I don't remember ever encountering anyone who thought they were better than us. I hope you keep cruising and that your next experience is more positive!
