  1. Based on OP's responses so far, because the OP was unaware of the appearance of "well done" Prime Rib, and was simply turned off the whole idea once it was served as such.

Hopefully OP will have a different reaction next time, and simply ask for a serving prepared as requested (i.e. medium-rare or whatever).

Meat had appearance of being microwaved or ? Our itinerary was changed, sea day went from last day to first day out. Might have been scrambling to get prime rib ready. Won’t be ordering any time soon after this experience

  2. I understand the overcooked beef wasn't what you expected, but:

I don't like overcooked prime rib or steak, usually do mine rare to medium rare, but there are people that do; my mother-in-law, for example, will take a steak (make sure it is thin), grill it well done or beyond, and then microwave it for a minute just to be sure. If there is even the merest hint of pink anywhere, she will refuse to eat it.

So well-cooked meat isn't "bad" or "nasty", just not to your taste. It is too bad the servers didn't immediately refuse it and ask for a pinker slice for you when they picked it up - so really, this is on them. You should have sent it back and asked for another serving or a different entree.

And if anyone has ever tried to cook prime rib (in a manner that would satisfy the health inspectors), you will always get well-done slices. And some folks like those slices.

Hmmm. I just don’t equate well cooked prime rib as being light gray in color. Stark contrast to the au jus served over it. I have ordered it med well and got more well done in the past. This was different!

  3. Thank you for saying that! I'm one of those people who like my meat well done also and I always receive crap about it. It really is just a personal preference, for me it's the texture of the meat when it's not well done that i don't like. Granted if there is still a very slight bit of pink in the center, I will still eat it.

So you routinely get light gray prime rib when it is well done? I am used to some level of pinkness.

  4. Is there a reason that you didn't tell your server that you wanted new Prime Ribs because these were not to your liking?

Server knew we both requested medium. Meat was a light gray with no hint of pink or char. Can’t even call it well done. Just turned our stomachs kwim? New prime rib was def out of question.

  5. Just off the Inspiration and was served gray colored Prime Rib on formal night, no where near the “medium” we both requested. The au jus gravy the waiter poured over it just made the nastiness even more evident. We were shocked this made it out of the kitchen, let alone onto our table! We were asked if everything was ok with our meal (steak not eaten), 🤢🤢. Totally disappointing and made us real leery of all our meals. Anyone else experience this?

  6. Tried yet again to request luggage tags online. Not yet available and link greyed out Called Celebrity, agent advised he would have to place me on hold and call my TA to request permission to mail them out to me! Apparently got the ok. 🤔 He will request mailing. WTH is going on? Waiting to book excursions on the ship, not seeing excursions for my sailing, just everything and everywhere else. Also asked when Celebrity was going to fix the website!

  7. Had 2 upswell offers both booked online with Carnival. First was on a 14 day cruise from an aft balcony to a Jr Suite for 1500. Turned it down. Second was an upgrade from an inside to an outside cabin for 20. per person. Agreed to that one. $$ is a deciding factor for me

  8. Thanks for the review. We were thinking of staying here.

We always stay here because we drive to the port. Hotel has good rates for the LA area, staff is the best. Love the area. Check out the Crooked Duck for a friendly neighborhood bar with upscale meals. Recommend walking since parking is limited. There is also a Mexican restaurant that is always busy, but I've never eaten there.

  9. I have been looking at cruises on the Magic out of PC and surprised they are only going Western. Not interested, can do Western from Galveston. So if we go out of PC guess it would be Sunshine. Prefer Magic, but oh well..

Magic also sails eastern itineraries. We are going this September. Be sure to scroll down to see the eastern sailings. Happy planning!

  10. I hope they don't skip the west coast in 2017.

I was wanting to do that RT Hawaii cruise

Miracle 14 day scheduled for Jan 2017. Then only 7 day Mexico through Feb 2017.

I see nothing else 14 or 7 day after that.

Would LOVE to know if or what they will replace the Miracle with in 2017. We are planners. LOL

  11. The Hotel Current is not in that bad a part of town, it's just way on the other side of Long Beach from where you want to be. They offer "Park and Cruise" packages--which appeal to some because of the parking benefit during the cruise--but those people are okay there because they have a car with them.

    .

We stay at the Hotel Current whenever we cruise out of Long Beach (and San Pedro-book the correct package). After the drive in from AZ, we are pooped. We park the car and it stays until we return from the cruise. There is a nice local bar/restaurant, Crooked Duck, a short walk away, and a 7-11 to hit on the way back if needed. The hotel staff is very attentive, the shuttle service convenient. I understand they will also drive you to local attractions like the convention center area. Have not used this myself, check with the front desk if interested. The outdoor pool area is also very relaxing.

  12. Hotel is on a noisy, busy street. Request a quiet room away from main road. However, if seeing the cruise ships in the morning is important, then ask for a Gaffey Street room.

Rooms are clean, somewhat Victorian style, have modern amenities and comfortable beds. Hotel staff is attentive. Breakfast is decent for pre-cruise meal. Shuttle to port is good, book the cruise package.

Surrounding community is working class. Convenience store across street. Taco Bell, Burger King within walking distance.

  13. DH and I took our first cruise on Costa MS Angelina Lauro September 23, 1978. We booked an inside upper and lower cabin and were upgraded to an outside upper and lower. Woohoo! Cabin was so small one of us had to sit on the lower bunk while the other dressed. We sailed from San Juan to Caracas, Venezuela, Curaçao, Guadelupe, Grenada, Saint Thomas and back to San Juan. This was a 7 day cruise with only 1 sea day. Every day we woke up in a new port. We arrived in San Juan during a transportation strike. Our bus was escorted to the ship by police. We sailed early to outrun a tropical storm. That first night at sea was rough, outer doors were roped shut. The Italian crew was attentive, had theme nights every night in the dining room as well as lavish midnight buffets every evening. Despite the rough start, this cruise ignited our love of cruising.

  14. Look into the Port Canaveral Package at Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando Airport at Gateway Village, Hampton Inn Orlando International Airport, and Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando Airport. Check out the Bon Voyage Package at Hilton Garden Inn Orlando Airport. These include airport shuttles, breakfast and transportation to the port (2 people, extra vouchers available for purchase). Convenient, not necessarily the cheapest.

You can also book a room near the airport, shuttle back and take cruise line transportation to the ship.

Be sure to call the hotel beforehand and verify what they offer, type to transportation they provide to the port, etc. You want to be sure this will meet your needs.

  15. Are you talking about staying in Orlando the evening prior to the cruise?

If so, The Hampton Gateway Village has a Cruise & Snooze pkg that incl airport shuttle, room, breakfast and a roundtrip shuttle to the port for two. http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/florida/hampton-inn-and-suites-orlando-airport-gateway-village-MCOGWHX/offers/index.htm

    :)

    .

Yes. We will need to stay at the airport since our flight comes in late afternoon. Will check this out. Thank you!
