  1. Algaes, thanks for posting the letter as promised.

It is rather expensive at $299pp, especially if the rumours Elizabeth has heard prove to be true. The 'experience' would be very poor indeed I think without the shopping for ingredients at a local market part of it.

I shall keep an eye on this to see if it improves over the coming months.

  2. I am curious to know more about The Kitchen Table, has anyone booked to have a cooking lesson there yet?

It's something my DH and I would perhaps like to book for our October trip.

    Any info on costs?

    Thanks.

    Coco.

  3. After many instances of never having Room Service answer the phone I asked Explorers' Desk for the number. The pre-programmed selection on the cabin phone is wrong. Dial 2183 and it gets answered. I wrote it on the Room Service menu to help the next passengers in this cabin. And the corned beef hash on the room service menu still hasn't made it to the ship...

Are there different Room Service menus for different categories of cabin?

I can't see any mention of Corned Beef Hash on the Room Service Menu posted by Algaes on April 19th?

  4. Morning Becki,

I think it is highly commendable that yourself and your husband took your CC reviewing of the Star so seriously that you went as far as testing the Medical Facilities!! Your husband deserves a medal for 'taking one for the team' :D

Seriously though, I do hope your husband isn't in too much pain and discomfort, and your trip isn't hindered greatly by his unfortunate injury.

My best wishes to you both.

  5. I wouldn't worry, Cassandra. This is the first week for new crew, ship, line, passengers, etc. There's a guy on our roll call who has been on a maiden cruise. He says what's being reported for Star this week is peanuts compared to what he experienced on his maiden voyage. Now, the line he was on (Disney) gets great reviews. The important stuff will be ironed out. The rest may get better, or maybe not, as I don't think Viking ever planned this cruise line to compete with the megaships who can justify having many, many more services. I know I have been sounding like a Pollyanna when I post (and I'm planning to bite my tongue and post less), but quite honestly, I believe Viking will turn out to be an excellent line for those of us who like port-intensive, rather unusual itineraries on a less crowded ship that has good food and service and a functional stateroom at a competitive price The rest is just icing on the cake for me, as I seldom use all the other stuff (spa, stores, activities, casinos, movies, shows, climbing walls, etc.) I'm always out in the ports during the day, and with few sea days, that leaves only enough time to enjoy a nice meal, chill, and prepare for the next day. But I'm a weirdo, I guess...and I've never been on a cruise ship for more than 2 weeks, so perhaps those things are more important when you're on a ship for 50 days.

I'm just glad Becki is posting at least something about the ports, excursions, etc. We're on the same itinerary in the fall so it has been helpful to me. I'm fully expecting people to ask why in the heck Viking goes to Pula, which will make me laugh, as my husband and I are usually the ones who have the most fun in oddball places like that!

I am loving your work Roothy :-)

  6. Good Morning id4Elizabeth,

We are booked on the Med Odyssey in October, so have a long time to wait. We booked way back in 2013 as soon as we became aware of Viking Star.

I have been following the posts on this thread since it's creation, so I am aware of all of the ups and downs, trials and tribulations you pioneering 50 Dayer's have endured.

I would like to thank you and all of the 50 Day Crazies for all of your hard work.

It takes a lot of time and effort researching a trip like this and you are all very generous to share your research and experiences.

I hope this adventure proves to be as exciting and rewarding as you dreamed it would be. I can only imagine your excitement this morning :-)

Make sure along with all the posting and the uploading that you take time out to enjoy the Star in all it's glory. :D

    Bon Voyage!!

    Coco x
