  1. Just curious if anyone has any opinions on each of these. Looking to book one of these just not sure what the big difference is in each. If anyone can share their experience it would be great! My family is staying in a GS on The Adventure of the Seas on the June 22nd sailing, I’m not sure if we get any perks being in a suite.

    Thanks Kim

  2. A farm would be an added bonus, yes my son would love that! I at 1st thought that Deans would be better because it is air conditioned, but I'm thinking my son might actually like the open aired buses better, might be more fun for him and not just feel like we are driving around in a van.

  3. I am thinking about doing one of the taxi tours of the island. We will be port on The Oasis on May 17th. Can anyone give some give suggestions of which ones are better or are they all pretty comparable. I've been looking into Airforce 1, Deans taxi, Marian's Taxi. We are 4 adults and my 5 year old son. Basically looking to just get a nice tour of the island and maybe a little time shopping.

  4. I am thinking of booking this excursion on my May 14th sailing on the Oasis. The day we are in St Thomas there are 3 other ships there and I thought this might be a good, less crowded beach option for me, my husband and 5 yr old son. If anyone has been there recently can you please share your experience and any tips you could share. Thanks!

  5. We are currently reserved for the Standard cabana S7 on barefoot beach. I was just curious if anyone who has stayed in this one could give me some feedback as far as location to the water and such. It will be me and my husband and 4 year old son.

  6. Anyone on a ship who will be within about 500-600 miles of Port Canaveral on March 30th should check with their Cruise Director to see if he can get the Bridge crew to pipe the Space Center launch countdown to the above deck loudspeaker system. If the Cruise Director does not know about the launch, he may be happy to have a rocket launch viewing to add to his activity list for that night.

I will be on The Explorer that is expected to dock in Port Canaveral on the 31st at 1:00PM. Not sure how many miles we'll be away at that point??? It would be awesome if we were able to view the launch!

  7. Kimmy, we're sailing on the same cruise. I've done the research on the rules regarding the pools and kids who are not potty trained because our grandsons are joining us the following week to Bermuda. Explorer does not have a kid's pool where they allow swim diapers. Please don't allow your son to use it since he is not potty trained.

I never said I would take my son in the pools if it's not allowed, that is why I was asking. If he is not potty trained by the time of our cruise then we will make due!

  8. So my 3 yr old son will be right in the middle of potty training when we take our cruise on RC Explorer at the end of the month. I am looking for any advice and tips that will help this experience go as smoothly as possible. Has anyone ever brought one of those foldable potty seats that go on the toilet. Do they fit on the toilets on the ship?

I am loving all your pictures, it brings me right back to when we last sailed on her back in 2008, when my husband and I got married on The Explorer. Can't wait to be sailing on her again in a month!!! We're in a GS again so I can't wait to take full advantage of the concierge lounge and everything else. If you don't mind me asking which GS were you in. Last time my DH and I had 1574 and this time we have 1578 which I'm sure it almost the same, only major difference is we have our 3 year old son now :-)

The bus is a sort of Jitney, more like a very old small school bus. It ain't a Greyhound if you know what I mean. The seats are tight together. You can hold your child on your lap or let him sit on his own. it is about a 10 minute ride. For that period, it is OK. I wouldn't want to do a long haul in that bus, but for a buck and a quarter, who cares, it will get you where you want to go. If you are at all concerned with safety, take a taxi, they are all right there where the ship docks and will pester you enough you might consider it. Bus is cheaper, taxi is door to door.

Just to add, people are very friendly. The bus driver will let you know exactly where to get off and where to get the bus going back. As I said previously, we couldn't find a bus stop for the return trip, saw the bus coming, stuck out my arm and he stopped in the middle of the street to let us on.. Paid when we got off.

    Cheers

Thanks soooo much for all your advice, Len!!! In case you couldn't tell I kindof like to plan things out and TRY to have things in order ahead of time. This way we aren't getting off the ship and not knowing what we're doing, especially with a toddler.

    Thanks again.

  11. Another silly question, I think I have decided against walking to the zoo, I am pretty sure taking the bus is a better option especially with a 3 year old. Can anyone just tell me what the seating is like on the buses, are they coach like buses with individual seats or more like NYC- like buses. My son is always in a car seat when we travel but if the trip over to the zoo isn't that long I think we'll be OK.

  12. OK, let me set some of the record straight. We just got off the Carnival Splendor and did this exact thing. We are both seniors but walking is no problem. From looking at the map and chatting with people on this site, we decided to walk to the Zoo.

If we had to do it again, we would NOT.

Why, you ask?. It is very walkable, as was said, about 1 1/2 miles. We looked at the map, goes along the main street to the fish fry and then a few blocks in the other direction. We thought there would be people, shops etc all the way. NOT SO. Once you leave the main area of the city, we walked by ourselves and didn't see other people for blocks. Yes there are cars going all the time, but there were times walking, I thought about just hailing the bus. With all the publicity about crime in Nassau, staying in populated areas, even the ship put a special message in the daily bulletin about not straying too far off the main ways as crime is on the upswing, again, if we had to do it again, we take the bus. We did this coming back. We couldn't find the bus stop, saw the bus coming, waved to it and they stopped for us.

Just my humble opinion, but the way they publicize the crime in Nassau now, I would think twice about walking this.

The Zoo itself is very nice, even for 2 'older' folks. Whatever animals they have are out in their cages, not hidden under a rock some where. Several beautiful peacocks just roaming around the grounds. The feeding of the parrots was a lot of fun. They will give you as many apple slices as you like to attract the parrots to eat them out of your hand. The Flamingo show was cute and they let anyone who wants go out in the middle and sort of interact with the flamingos. Great photo ops.

We enjoyed our few hours there. We used a Credit Card to pay, and the staff is very friendly.

    Cheers

    Len

Thank you soooo much for this insightful post! I think we will stick with taking the bus!!!
