  1. It was a wonderful time and I am ready to do it again! Italy is one of my favorite places in the world. I could reside their in a moment (darn work prevents it currently)!

Sorrento was beautiful, yes, touristy but small town atmosphere at the same time.

I feel my family is getting larger as we make more friends with all of RIL! All we have used over the years are SUPERB! Not to that is a guarantee, just our experience! :)

  2. We have returned from a cruise with RCCL and an extensive time in Italy. We used RIL for all transfers between the airport to our apartment, to the port and back with Michele, 4 tours in Rome and one from the cruise to Sorrento, and hotel back to airport from Sorrento after a stay there. We had Sarah as a guide for a walking Food Tour in Rome and it was fabulous! Learned lots of history and got to sample many local dishes and beverages I had never had before. We also took a "Rome Under the Stars" tour with Alberto who was charming, witty and extremely knowledgeable of the Roman sites we were able to see at night. He took us up above the city at sunset for some wonderful photo opportunities. He was a skilled driver (which is much needed in Rome) and we were able to see many more sites than I thought possible. We even had Gelato at a local shop that heavenly! I highly recommend this tour if you have been to Rome before and are looking for something a little different, or if you are a photography buff. The photos were amazing. On the morning of the cruise Salvatore drove us and friends (8 in all) to the port, picking each family up at two different apartments (no extra charges) and gave us an informative drive to the port in a short period of time allowing us to arrive a bit early and miss the crowds.

During our port stop in Naples I also booked a "Enogastronomic Tour" in Sorrento with Alex. It was a great fun-filled day of tastings of olive oils (many more flavors than I could imagine), Limoncello, and wine as well as "Pizza School" in a local restaurant with our "Pizziolo" (pizza teacher). It was loads of fun and lots of picture taking while we made our own lunch (at least part of it). It really fun time for kids that are a bit older and can be in the kitchen. Alex was very knowledgeable about the area and its history as well as being humorous. He provided us with lots of interesting facts, and I am certain the day would not been as memorable without Alex. It was a special time for us and Alex made it even more memorable.

We also used RIL to return to Rome to the Termini to return to stay in Sorrento for a wonderful relaxing time, living with the locals in another apartment. Alex gave us many suggestions regarding places to dine and grocery store as well as local boat trips to Capri. Upon returning to Rome for a few days, we had to say goodbye to Rome and to RIL when they took us to the airport. When we left it truly felt like we were leaving good friends. Maybe all the drivers are not as knowledgeable and communicative as the drivers I have had in the past 10 years, perhaps I am just lucky? If there are any drivers that are less than the company standards I can not imagine they would last there for very long. I do know that I can whole-heartedly recommend Rome in Limo for your transfer and tour needs in Italy and I do so without reservations! Have a wonderful time in Italy! Ciao :)

Sorry for the lengthy post. :)

  3. I have used both companies, in the beginning for transfers. In all honesty once I used RIL I could never consider using another company. They excel in all areas of the services they offer. They charge a fair rate and have a discount when booking multiple tours (even if they are in different ports or all in the same one). They encourage "sharing a ride" and when your tour is finished you will feel like you are leaving a new friend in Italy. RIL has certainly mastered the art of service; they are all professional yet personable.

You will have no regrets with Rome in Limo.

I have nothing negative to say about other companies, but only positive things about RIL. I have used them for several years (7 years).

Have a wonderful time and enjoy beautiful Italy!

  4. :)I have used RIL for quite a few years and they have always delivered "above and beyond" what was expected. The drivers offer a wealth of knowledge and we feel like we are leaving an old friend by the time the day in over.

We will be returning to Italy in June (for the 9th time) and are booking all tours and transfers with RIL again. We have arranged many custom tours with them for groups of us (sometimes 5 or 6 mini-vans). It was always smooth and a wonderful time even with many people to please in the same group! I also highly recommend them!

I hope everyone enjoys their time in Italy, I am confident we will when using RIL. :)

  5. :)mfanderso:

So sorry to hear that you were so unhappy with your tour with RIL. I too, have used Rome in Limo for many years and never had an issues, what ever Jany confirmed in email to me is always what we got. Not to say we didn't change things up on her several times. :o I always reconfirm with a company as we get closer to travel (Jany is always so patient and confirms for me as many times as I ask). I am sure there are good tour companies out there, I just love traveling with the best! imho :)

We have had 40 plus people to travel on tours together and they have coordinated it beautifully and without a hitch (no easy task) and in multiple vehicles. I hope you are happier with the other tour company. Italy is too beautiful to miss! :o

  6. I highly recommend RIL. I have used them for touring all over Italy and they are by far the BEST!

Before the “tour sharing” division we would put groups together from our cruise critic boards and having been involved in quite a few, with hundreds of people I have never heard a complaint! Everyone agreed they got more than they expected, and isn’t that saying something about their level of service.

I have been fortunate to have traveled in Italy several times before I found RIL, and I must say I saw more in one day in Rome than I did in four visits! Duman and Jany are professionals, as are their drivers and guides. They know the areas and the traffic to get you in and out quickly to see more sights and they know great “local” restaurants and where the best gelato is!! :)

I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed!

    Rosemarie

  7. I have used RIL many times over the past years, and have always tipped the drivers! You will feel "happy" to tip them as they really do make the day for you.

It is a personal decision and depends on your financial standing. Some are on a tighter budget than others. I tip the usual 15% for satisfactory service, and more for exemplary service. I confess I have always had exemplary service with RIL and feel certain you will too.

I hope this is helpful and at least gives you one more opinion. :)

  8. I totally agree with hylasgirl, don't skimp on the guide. It is so worth the $$. The guides RIL uses are all great and they give you an extensive tour in much less time than you can possibly do on your own. The information they give is "priceless".

Contact Jany and she will advise you as to your options. You are dealing with the best tour company in Italy and they have that reputation for good reasons. They have "customized" tours to fit our needs and time tables on many occasions (to include a relayed flight into Rome, for one couple in our family) when we were to leave for a tour in Tuscany that morning. We waited for them and the tour went on without a problem, we just had a later return that evening.

We have used RIL for 7 years with tours all over Italy and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I only wish they were in other parts of Europe also!!

You won't be disappointed. Check on your Roll Call and i'll bet you'll find someone that would love to share the cost of a city/Vatican tour. Check RIL's website as well.

Good luck, and enjoy Rome. My favorite city.

    Ciao,

  9. I have used the services of Rome in Limo for a number of years, in many locations over Italy, and all the drivers are teriffic, very knowledgeable and personable. We felt like we had a friend after each tour. They are the BEST without a doubt.

Jany will help you plan your day (s), she is an expert and has never failed us, everything works like clockwork. The drivers are very flexible and offer a little stops; like a Gelato in a local spot that is off the "beaten path" or lunch at a place where they eat with thier family (always a great treat)!

For the poster looking for alternatives to visiting the Vatican, go online to thier website romeinlimo dot com and look at the tours offered and discuss via email with Jany as to what you can arrange. I have been to Rome 7-8 times and it is never enough, I always have more to see. RIL has put together many "custom" tours for us (and groups) that have been some of the most memorable days of all our travels. I blame them for my everlasting love affair with Italy. :D

I look forward to another trip to Italy and to spending days with RIL, it's like seeing old friends again!

    Enjoy your trip.

  10. slyster: Yes i did see your roll call post. Maybe if you had the Liberty OTS and the sail date it will be easier to "spot". There just may not be alot of Cruise Critic members on that sailing. Don't give up tho, just keep adding a post to the thread so it'll stay on the first couple of pages and I hope you'll get some response. I do understand that it would be great if you got another couple to join in to reduce the per person cost, but if you don't , you will not regret going ahead with the tour. It is worth much more than RIL charges!

Yes, I was closer to F'burg. I had kids that lived there and had a business there. Good luck.

countrycruzer: You are exactly right in regards to the the little bit more spent than on the cruise lines bus tours! They are a cattle call and the RIL drivers knowledge has no pricetag! The information and history we were told on our tours was priceless, and it was loads of fun. The time saved was wonderful to be able to experience more of Italy in our short time. I have been to Rome many many times and I still use RIL. There is so much to see and do in Rome and in surrounding areas. I use RIL at all Italian ports, I wish Duman could expand to surrounding countries! They are the best!!

  11. Hello slyster, I have used RIL many, many times and have always had great respose to getting folks to join a tour from the Roll Call thread.

If there no responses on the roll call thread maybe try listing it as Liberty OTS and the sail date, it may catch someones eye easier. Little response may also be that it is a 5 day cruise, who knows. I will tell you with no hesitation that the 4 of you will have a great day touring with RIL. They have made soooo many wonderful memories for us and friends (both new & old). If you donot get anyone else, just go and enjoy, it is worth every penny and more.

I hope you have a great trip.

BTW: we used to be old neighbors (kinda), we lived in Northern VA for 17 years.

    Rosemarie :)

  12. boogs: so glad it worked out for you. Anything is possible when dealing with RIL and with Jany! I am sure you will have a memorable visit in Italy bu using RIL.

    bobalink:

well said, I agree with everything you said. I have used RIL for several years and cannot say enough good about them. I am a "cheerleader" for them also, and it is well deserved. I wish they had clones in Greece, Turkey, France, Spain etc etc and in the UK. I have never found any as good, most certainly none better.

    Enjoy Italy.

    Ciao :)

  13. Hi SondraC:

I have used RIL for several (many) years and they have always done an A++ job. I totally agree with the some of the other posts in regards to Livorno. We had a wonderful time and saw much more than I thought possible, but never felt rushed. There is always a personal touch to thier service. Seeing "David" was a highlight as was seeing Pisa, both the town and the tower.

I have used RIL in both Rome, Florence and Pompeii and three different trips, and found that this was the most time saving way to tour both areas. The private guides that RIL can arrange for you are surperb in both the Vatican and in Pompeii, the fee is well worth more than is charged. We were given a wealth of information and were able to see much more than if we were doing this on our own. The professional drivers are from the areas that you are touring with them, and they know the traffic, short cuts and alternate routes to get you to your desination quickly and safely. There is no guess work.

If you contact Jany at info@romeinlimo dot com she can help you plan a tour day with what you want or do not want. They will customize a tour for you.

We just returned from our trip in mid December and we had 40 persons from Cruise Critic that toured Rome, Pompeii and surrounding areas, and it was a great time. It was great to meet everyone that we had been posting with during the planning of the cruise on our thread on the sail date.

I highly recommend RIL and I am sure you will be more than pleased with thier service.

Have a great trip. I hope this was helpful.

  14. Just returning from more wonderful tours with Rome in Limo! They truely are the best and it is proven once again.

We had groups of 40 persons from Cruise Critic for the Rome Highlights tour with Nick, Maurizio, Salvalore, Roberto and Emanuele as our drivers. They were all very professional and maneuvered around Rome as if it were a small town. Many said later that it was a huge plus to have the private guides for the Vatican, as they saw and learned so much more than they could possibly have on thier own. They were wisked in and about to see all the major attractions of Rome, and a few unexpected ones. The groups were returned back to the ship in plenty of time with no worries. Some folks were a little concerned about traveling the distance to Rome on a private tour with fears of not getting back to the ship on time. It was quickly recognized that these drivers are professionals and experts in "time management"! :-) They never miss a ship! We had vans of 8 persons on most all the tours and by sharing the cost it was so reasonablely priced, far less expensive than ship tours. Thanks to Cruise Critic we were able to go together and share the experiencce and the cost!:D

We had another five groups, totaling 40 persons to tour from Naples to Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano. Our drivers were Rafaelle, Ciro, Grampiero, and Luigi. All were terrific! We also had private guides for Pompeii that is essential to knowing what exactly you are looking at. It was a great day, beautiful weather and a most enjoyable trip. We had a fabulous lunch in a privately owned restaurant in Sorrento, after a a little shopping! Our drive along the Amalifi Coast was exciting and fun! Rafaelle was the driver in my van (I had toured with Rafaelle last year). We sang some easily recognized songs as we drove along and tasted some Italian treats (that the driver offered). It was a wonderful introduction to this area and a welcomed treat to those that had been there before. We stopped at a small roadside fruit stand and tasted some local blood oranges and many bought some prepackaged Italian spices and herbs for cooking, once we returned home. It was a great day.

We also did a custom tour (15 of us) from Livrono to San Gimignano and Volterra. Both were wonderful little towns as was the wine tasting at the small private winery,Torciano, that included our lunch in the wine cellar. It was a wonderful lunch and most humorous entertainment from the owner! It was a good time for all even with ages ranging from 13 to 80+. Our drivers were Vinny and Marzia, and both were surperb! I have toured with Vinny before and he is the most polite, professional man. It was a pleasure to see him and have another day to spend together and learn more about this region in Italy.

I can only say that I would NEVER consider any other company than Rome in Limo. When you have experienced the best, why look at the rest. I have recommended them to many people and have never had anyone ever disagree. They are knowledgeable, professional and very personable folks that I feel like are new friends.

Sorry for the length of the post but I hope some of you will decide to contact RIL and experience Italy the same wonderful way we did. I have "fallen in love" with Italy and alot of that is due to all of the information and touring we have done with Rome in Limo. The drivers share so much information, not only history but local customs, funny stories and trivia. Also, I am not sure that there is an Italian man that cannot sing! :)

If you decide to use Rome in Limo, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. I am trying to plan our next trip to Italy, and RIL will most difinitely be included!

    Rosemarie

  15. We have used a private guide arranged by RIL for our day in Rome, and she was wonderful. It was a small amount of money and we were able to see so much more and understanding the history of what we were looking at. Touring there with a smaller sized group (8) was a large advantage (IMO). I did not think there was a large difference in cost. Go with RIL and reserve the guide, you will so pleased that you did. :)

  16. I totally agree with all of you! I would not dream of any other tour than one with RIL! Once you have had the best, it is hard to settle for less. Never a crowded bus tour again, only personalized treatment and educated tours"!

Now if we can only get them to spread out into other regions in Europe!

    ;)

  17. Just check with Jany, she can tell you what will be best. Depending on the area you will be touring in, it can sometimes help determine the size of the vehicle. You cannot use too large a vehicle along the Amalfi Coast and go into some of the towns such as Positano, as the roads and streets are too narrow. If it is possible to do, Jany will get it done for you!

    Have a great time! :)

  18. It also cost you less to purchase online. The tour companies are charged a fee to purchase them. The 2 pm time frame seems to be the best for less crowds. When you see the lines outside, you will be sooo glad to purchased ahead of time. Enjoy!:)

  19. Good Morning:

It really won't matter what driver you have they are all fantastic! After the first season of touring with RIL I wanted to get the same drivers again as they were so personable and professional, yet they were also fun and we laughed alot during the tour. We had different drivers for all 6 tours and at the end of the day we all felt the same way about these drivers as we did the previous year! We were a group of 8 one year and the next year there were 14 of us!

The guides for Pompeii are a must, we received so much more info, and the same for the guide in the Vatican.

We are returning in November and will be touring with RIL again. I wouldn't think of doing anything with out RIL tours. As mentioned above we have used them for transport between the airport & hotel and again from hotel to port, and pick-up at the end of the cruise to take us back to Rome and/or airport. I trust them to be there when they say they will be and I never worry about getting back in a timely manner.

I can not say enough good about them (I do beleive that Jany never sleeps)!;)

    Enjoy your tours.

    Anxiously awaiting November!

  20. We went up to the ticket window and purchased our own. It is all paid in Euro so I can't imagine you would need exact change. The guide waited right beside us where we walked into Pompeii. It wouldn't hurt to have smaller coins 1 & 2 Euro if not for anything but tipping. The outside vendors cannot make too much change, and they only accept cash. We purchased a "before and after" book and it was a great reminder of the day.

    Enjoy!

  21. cruisemomtofour:

I don't know when you are going to be in Pompeii, but if it is late fall, the waters are rough getting to Capri. It might be more enjoyable at another time. We are going to be there in November and will have to wait and see Capri on another trip.I don't want to chance the rough waters.

  22. jesse, I totally agree with everything you said, and could not have said it better. We have used them many times and feel the same way each time: What a fantastic job. The little things mean alot and make a memory that is unforgetable.

    Rosemarie :):)
