  1. What would you say the weather was like at the ports traveling next Jan and just want to know what to expect (:

It was warm. Around 27 C every day according to the ship map on deck 5( I think that's in the 80's F? I can never remember how the conversion goes). Nice to lay by the people on deck and great for the beach.

  2. I notice on Bon Voyage that the Coors light is 25$ for 4 pack. We just got off the Splendor and paid 28$ , we ordered it from room service. Didn't tip because the girl left so fast we would have had to run down the hall, lol! We asked on lido deck about getting a 4 pack ( a bucket) but they said they had to open them. So room service was a better deal as we wanted to enjoy them on our own time.

  3. Is that right? The last sea day would be the last day of the cruise, ie: last nite of the cruise. That doesn't sound right.

Yea, That's why I wasn't sure. I remember Roatan day being the past guest party ( looooved the free fake champagne , a lot, lol). I don't particularly remember getting extra dressed up that night. So maybe it was Saturday. Wish I had kept the fun times, oh well.

  4. Hi

What to do in the evening?

We finished supper at around 7:30. On nights with the comedy shows, we'd do first family comedy, then we'd head to the main Theatre for that show. After the show ( 9 pm). We'd head to the piano bar until 9:45. Then it was time for the first adult comedy. That was it for us. Time for bed.

Now, on the nights without comedy, I was a bit bored. After dinner at 7:30, the only things to do were: shopping, casino, walking around outside ( we did this), movie by the pool ( but it was half way done) or listening to music in the many venues ( lots of choice to be sure, I'm not keen on ''just'' listening to music. Near the casino, sometimes people danced. I did join it for a bit.). Then off we went to the theatre. At 9, either piano bar or cabin to read/watch TV.

On one night the theatre show was a game show type of thing. I've seen one of these on another ship and didn't find it much fun. So I skipped the theatre that night. Also night one and the last night, the theatre show is too late for me (10:15).

  5. We are going Jan 25th, 7 nights. Way too excited. I guess this was how the kids felt about our Florida trip a couple of years ago. I can't wait to try the Mongolian, we don't have that locally anymore and the husband is looking forward to it.

Mongolian Wok is really good! Especially on day one when the lines are so short.:D

  6. no, but they do have a tv station that runs kid movies in a 24 hour loop and another channel that does 24 hour cartoons when are you going?

I am wondering about this rotissorie.

My favorite is Mongolian station and will be the first place i head when i get onboard. Lines will probably be too long the rest of the week

The rotisserie is very nice. It's upstairs of the buffet (where the fish and chips is on other ships). They have corn on the cob, potatoes and pieces of chicken: leg, breast.. ( not fried). They also have corn bread and salad fixings. I made myself the best chicken salad for lunch one day.

  7. Nice review!

Hi from your friendly neighbor to the south/Saranac Lake, NY

    Hi

Hope you made it home safely. Are you enjoying the weather yet? I miss the heat sooooooo much, lol!

Good luck with your novel K2! Isn't cruising great?:D

  8. Hi

    Just got off the Splendor.

Left freezing cold in Montreal on December 29th. Stayed in Miami and boarded the ship on January 4.

We are husband and wife mid 40's. Mom in her 60's, sister and her hubby mid forty's and 6 y.o. son. I'm platinum, Mom, sister and my hubby are gold. Sister's husband and son are red.

Embarkation: wow. so fast!!! We got to the port at around 10:30, breezed through every line and we all got to wait together in the Platinum lounge. We boarded at around 11:15. Insane. I've never been on so early. Very happy. We dropped carry-on in my cabin and headed for lunch. The girls got the Mongolian wok, the guys got burgers.

    Touring the ship:

The Splendor is made differently from the previous ships I have traveled on, so off we went to explore. The main pool is the one that gets covered in case of bad weather, this was great later in the week when we watched late evening movies. It rained a bit during the week but it wasn't too bad. The last day was sucky though weather wise so that covered pool was awesome.

The adult only pool was aft, it was great and the seating area was all outdoors so that I got a great view of the ocean when I peaked up from a book.

There was also a smaller pool by the water slide. Another novelty was a splash play area mid ship off to the side (not in the lido area). It was great for kids and the adults who joined them.

    Cabin:

we had three cabins on deck 7 aft, all insides. very quiet. Great steward. Got ice every day and the usual cute towel animals. This time I did not eat a single pillow chocolate. So proud, lol. They are awful, yet I still managed to eat them every night in the past. Still have not ordered room service, just not enough hungry left, lol! Got laundry done twice, it was very efficient, same day service. There were some water problems in our area. The cold water would run out, weird. we had to brush are teeth with very hot water. The shower was perfect for hubby but too hot for me ( still managed, though). On the debark day, they turned the water off to do repairs, I bet that was it.

    Food:

we ate in the dining room every night. The food and wait staff were great. Service was super quick. We had the traditional menus.

Buffet was so-so, salad bar section was good, the rest was good just nothing much to tempt us. We had the deli, wok, burrito bar and rotisserie for lunch. We really like the omelette station for breakfast. Short lines everywhere.

    Ports:

    Cozumel: paradise Beach

Costa Maya: the tropicante, fabulous massage

    Roatan: beach

    Cayman: Royal Palm beach

Disembark took forever for Canadians. We got off the ship after 10! They had a problem with the lines for non-US travellers at customs. No big deal for us as we stayed in Miami until Monday. Others may have been freaking out.

    The shows:

piano bar was hosted by Russell, he was Ok. Comedy was hit and miss.

first show was Latin type. It was OK. The second was a female singer. (Lovena?). She sang a variety of songs. My favourite show was ''Vroom'' it was rock music through the ages.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  9. hi

We have cruised several times in January. I find the weather better farther south. The Bahamas has weather similar to Florida. Some years we were able to go to the beach. Other years we walked around with sweaters.

It depends if you are a beach goer or not. There is more to the Bahamas than beaches but that's what I love , so I'll be staying away from there in January

    from now on.

  10. Been cruising 15 yrs without checking email or using a cell phone and don't plan to start when we leave this Saturday for our NYE cruise on Liberty!

Everyone who needs to know where I am, does, I will wish all my family happy new year before I go. Even if there were an emergency there is not a damn thing I could do about it until I got back as I will be out of the country on a ship....my family and friends get it! Everyone has the emergency number to reach the ship if it is an emergency of the worse case but even then chances are I could not do anything until we got back to port.

I do not work on vaca as I am on vaca...I do not "check in" with FB or any other site as I am on vaca and I really do not want to know about any drama happening back home for the week as I am on vaca. Our time together on the ship by ourselves is the most important thing that week, no devices allowed!

Perhaps a different type of vaca is in order for those that just have to be connected for whatever reason, IDK...

    Where is the like button:D

I agree we go on vacation so few days in the year, we've got real life the rest of the time.

  11. We walked to a small liquor/wine store and to a gas station / convenience store for soda and water.

The wine / liquor place was near the Burger King/ pollo tropical. Less than a mile. Ok to walk during the day but a small part of the way didn't have a sidewalk, so I wouldn't go at night.

The shuttle ( ask front desk) will drive you to the Walgreens or cvs and they brought us to the Kmart in little Havana. It was free and quick.

  12. Love the tropicante!

Chairs/umbrellas are free in exchange for a purchase or two. Make reservations with Steve ( just google the tropicante for the email). The place gets busy, they run out of chairs.

The beach is nice, the food and drinks good. The massages AMAZING!!!! And only 25$ Insane!!!

Steve is an American ex-pat. He has free internet and will even allow you to phone home, free.

The place is right on the boardwalk with tons of souvenir vendors. Taxi is only 2$ per person to get here.

    Fun/cheap day

  13. HI all!

I would have to disagree about there being nothing to see in Cuba!

The island is 1200 miles long & very diverse. It's also like a time warp with all the cars from the '50s & some crumbling buildings. There are beautiful untouched beaches. I'm cruising around it for the 2nd time soon & have been there 6 times to all inclusives. I'm sure a lot of Americans would go & enjoy it if they could. Canadians have been flocking there for holidays for years so there must be something attracting them.;)

    ~ Jo ~ :)

Agree! Cuba is beautiful and the people are very friendly. Havana has great churches and is very historical. The all inclusive hotels have the most beautiful beaches.

The price of a vacation to Cuba is very inexpensive. If cruise ships start to visit , the prices will surely go up. So I vote ''no'' .

  14. We have stayed here a few times.

During the day, you can walk to a small convenience store to get soda. There is also a liquor store close by for wine. There is also a burger king and pollo tropical. You must go during the day though because it isn't very safe walking ( traffic, no sidewalk part of the way), you could ask if they'll shuttle you though. They did accept once for us and brought us to a Walgreens.
