  1. Since nobody has responded, I will share my experience from Symphony, on the assumption it's similar.  There are 2 locations in the Windjammer [one on each side near the entrances - IIRC, 2 machines at each location]. One on the Royal Promenade near the Cafe Promenade or Sorrentos, can't recall which. One in the Park Cafe, in the Central Park neighborhood, and one in El Loco Fresh [the Mexican restaurant]. Surprisingly [at least to me] there was not one in the Boardwalk neighborhood [but you could get a soda in a glass at Playmakers.

    Is Oasis similar?

    Oasis class

Ships are a destination on their own and the shows are the best at sea 😊

    Something for everyone

Interesting. That's what I always thought, but in response to a question about bizarre event scheduling, the cruise director on Symphony said something like there was nothing he could do about it because the ship wasn't designed to have everyone aboard at once.

  3. I forgot you will be approaching the area from the east end of the beaches,  If you have an option to see Pegasus Bridge or the British beaches where there are still remnants of the Mulberry Harbors, well worth it.

The Museum in Caen is great, but with your limited time I would recommend spending it seeing the actual sites.

Although it is a somewhat sanitized version of the battle, I recommend watching the Longest Day to get an overview of the battle.

There is no way you can  come close to seeing everything in an 8-10 hour shore excursion. Decide what you want to see the most and choose the excursion that gets you there.  Personally, if my time was that brief, I would not want to miss the cemetary,  Pointe de Hoc, and the Bayeux Tapestry.  The tapestry is obviously a different matter altogether from the DDay sites, but it is fascinating.

I would also recommend becoming familiar with the course of the battle to better understand what you see.

About 10 years ago, we took a ferry across the channel after a cruise on Indy and spent 3 days in Normandy. Highly recommend that option.  Still many things to see if we go back.

We had Bobby [Brown] years ago as CD & did not care for him then.  I must say he was great this time around! Very visible (especially for an Oasis class ship) & personable.

Had Bobby Brown on Symphony last year. He was indeed very visible and personable. But organization and scheduling was a mess.  Overall, I would rate him a fail.

  6. We did the GTY game for a purpose of the moment cruise on Anthem last October.  We were assigned on Monday before sailing on Saturday.  We got a balcony on six, and when they say obstructed, they mean it.  Our view was a small aperture between two life boat davits on either side,  and the lifeboat below.   I would guess we had maybe half of the normal view.  It was fine with us, we knew the rules and got what we bargained for. Biggest problem was the smoker next door.

  7. Brilliance is the only one of the Radii we have not been on. Currently booked for 30 nights on Serenade in 2021 [B2B Sydney to Vancouver. What I like about them compared to other ships:

    1. Fewer friends to contend with at Ports.

    2. Outside area in Windjammer.

    3. Smaller size means most things are a shorter walk.

    4. Overall, I find these ships easier to navigate.

Most other facilities that I patronize are pretty similar to other RC ships.

One of my favorite cruises was on Serenade [2015 Snowbird migration]. On the other hand one of my worst cruise experiences was on Jewel [2010 Canada New England - the ship had just returned from Europe, experienced a lot of crew turnover, resulting in the one RCI cruise I've been on that I can say service was truly abominable - but I was with great friends, the ports were great and had a great time anyway].

I am not as enamored with the class as some are [the "all that glass" chestnut is way overblown]. But I'm getting to where I like the smaller crowds.  For a port intensive cruise, I would much ptefer a Radii to a larger ship. Other than that, I pick the itinerary and pretty much don't worry about the class of the ship.

So ... this is my solution.  I will test it in Jan.  I bought a long power cord for my CPAP.  Not an "extension" cord, but the actual power cord is now 20 feet long. . . .

Great idea. DW is going to get a stocking stuffer.

  9. I will second avoiding balconies on 6, at least the ones on the indents where the life boats are.  We booked a 5 day Bermuda pretty much at the last minute.  We took a balcony guarantee because the rate was good and the cruise is mostly open ocean.  Fully understood the rules and have no complaints.  But I would pick a different cabin if it were my choice.  We got 6186, mid-ship, port side.  For this cabin, obstructed means obstructed.  Our view was a relatively narrow aperture between two lifeboat davits.  On these ships, davits are fairly substantial cranes.  Straight down was to promenade deck on 5.  Biggest strike against this cabin is noise.  Near enough to Music Hall and other venues on lower decks we could hear the music [mostly the bass] until about 2 am.  Didn't bother me all that much but DW had a hard time getting to sleep.  Anyway, it was OK for a quick get away, but would avoid it for a longer cruise or one with a lot of scenery. Also first time we've been chased off our balcony by a smoking neighbor [and yes we did rat them out]. Jut cant really blame that on the cabin.
