OK. I will dumb it down a bit. The Crown Grill service was B A D!
Oh and to clarify more, bad does not mean good!

Just wondering, what's the problem with the waiter informing you of the new upcharge policy? Would you rather have been surprised later, and complain, after seeing your uncharged dinner bill?
What am I missing here?

We just got back from the 3-25-17 sailing of the Crown Princess to the Eastern Caribbean. We had a marvelous time. The MDR was amazing, ports of call were beautiful and almost all staff were really nice. We loved the ship and feel Princess did a good job. EXCEPT FOR the Clown (Crown) Grill. What a disappointment! After all the positive input on the Crown grill on this site, You Tube, and other sites we were most excited about going. We went early in the cruise and early in the evening (6:30 PM) so they were only about 1/3 full. It was a terrible experience. The waiter almost demanded that we order certain dishes. We ordered what we wanted. The food was overcooked, the service was non existent, and when we did encounter our waiter he was rude. We feel it began when (since we do not drink wine, only Ice tea) we did not order wine or designer water for the table. The waiter was pushy and since he was not going to make anything from additional purchases rude and non responsive. We had to wait 30 minutes for our table to be cleared of dinner dishes. Once we ordered coffee we had to wait for it. Our Waiter demanded we ordered desserts and had a verbal altercation with a member of our group because he wanted something different. We sat and watched our desserts on a table by the kitchen for 15 minutes while we waited for a coffee refill. I asked to see the Maitre D' of the dining room and the minute I told the waiter I wanted to see the Maitre D' our desserts were practically thrown on our table. The Maitre D' was very apologetic. I told him we were not looking for a refund. You don't go on a cruise and worry about $29. I told him I wanted changes so the next guest would not be treated like crap. I did not tell him but I expected maybe a hand written note later in the cruise no notes came. We all felt we were just handled and nothing would happen so at the end of the cruise I sought out Neville Saldanha, Head Maitre D' for the Ship and told him what had happened. He sent a bottle of wine to our cabin. I don't think he was listening because I told him that we don't drink wine and we felt that was the basis for the whole problem.
This was my first time on Princess and I will go on Princess again. I will NEVER eat at their upscale dining venues and I will always tell this story. If I failed to answer any questions let me know I will be glad to fill in the blanks. In the questionnaire received from Princess on my return I told them I was going to post this on Cruise Critic. I mentioned Cruise critic in all my discussions. Believe me they have all heard of this great site.
Just returned from Star Princess 4/7/17 sailing. It was our 21st Princess cruise. The voyage was short but spectacular, as always. There was one area however that fell short of spectacular and that was the service or lack thereof at The Crown Grill. The waiter we had was named Jose and he behaved much like the waiter in the original posters story. Not only did he treat everyone around our table far better than us, all of whom were ordering alcoholic beverages, but he also informed us of the recent up charges for everything. Order an extra appetizer, up charge. Order soup and salad, up charge. Want lobster instead of beef, huge up charge. Moreover, we were the first seated in our section, which had two other tables in it and we were served each course after the others. One table had three Princess employees seated at it and they were catered too. Not us, the paying passengers. A final note on this is the Crown Grill environment, which can best be described that night as chaos. Short staffed very stressed waiters, chefs, etc... We will not return to that venue on Star Princess again!

We like the elite mini bar in our cabin, bath tub in mini and the responsiveness of staff for "special" off menu requests in the MDR, buffet and room service.
What are some examples of special room service requests

The Golden has recently arrived in Australia for the Aust/NZ season, and we are booked to sail in January. I am already reading several reviews that some cruisers have mentioned that the Golden looks a bit tired. I am hoping that it is a minority statement but would like to hear from other cruisers that have sailed on Golden recently before it arrived in Australia.
Great ship. Been on her 7 times. However she is in need of some serious TLC.

Does anyone know the width and height of the cabin doors? If it matters I am wondering about the Grand Princess. I am making a door decoration that covers the whole door. Thanks
Not sure. However by the end of a cruise they seem much narrower.

I received an email from Princess stating the Maitre d' will be Jean Paul Musiu . How do I send him an email for a specific table request
I did not see his name on the list. Which ship visit?

Wait, you mean its not all real??
I really like how the passengers stand outside on Promenade Deck with the ship at speed and their hair never moves a millimeter. Now that's some strong hairspray.

Thank you. Get One Eyed Harry to start building a terminal on his property before he rerires or is kicked out of office.
He may just turn a blind eye to that motion.

Can someone tell me how you go about becoming a shareholder?
ETrade is simple to use; however, currently the stock is 20 bucks per share more expensive than it was this time last year. If I were considering the purchase today knowing that, I think my assessment would be that the ship has sailed.

Made me chuckle, their Mexican food is not even close.
Hence the term "real."

What do you WISH princess Cruiselines would do?
Have a nicer menu in the Main Dining Rooms..
Have more Cruises from the West Coast....
What is YOUR WISH?
How about having real Mexican food on the MDR menu on Mexican cruises.

I love princess cruises but not the food . The chefs on board have years of experience and I know they can put food out that has some love in it. Is this a ploy so they do not compete with the premium restaurants?
Been cruising with Princess for 23 years and I have seen a definite decrease in quality and variety of food. I think the so called specialty restaurants have been a large contributor to the downward trend. Having said all that Princess is still our go to brand for cruising.

I wish someone on CC would explain to me what opinion regarding ANYTHING is not subjective? Everyone says over and over and over that food is subjective. Are CC posters opinions regarding entertainment, cabins, ship condition, staff, ports not subjective?

Food is very subjective to provide a true comparison. JMHO!
Just curious, what opinions are not subjective?

Olive Garden is pretty darn good. I love their soup and salad for lunch. I always ask for Romaine lettuce in the salad instead of iceberg. As for where do I eat? Well, I cook a lot because I enjoy cooking. If I have anyone to blame about the taste and quality I have to blame myself. I'm not that creative to come up with 1,000 ways to cook sausage, and to have it every day is quite boring. I'm hoping this won't be the case on the Crown next month.
Mmmmmmmm Olive Garden Never Ending Pasta Bowl. I'm down!

I don't bother with the form...just write all required info (name, voyage #, etc) on the proof of ownership and fax it in:D
That is exactly what I did last time. It worked well...

I bought this fan for my upcoming cruise: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B16VT6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Runs on two D-cell batteries. I think it'll suit my needs (mostly for the white noise) just fine. :)
Wow never found need to bring a fan. Ships are actually always super cold. Perhaps that's because those with the fans keep asking the crew to turn up the AC.

Good to hear! My husband, dad and I will be in C751 on the Grand in September and I've been reading with trepidation all the negative reviews. I don't doubt them, but the irrational part of me hopes they're wrong. :)
How did you like C752? Any hints for maximizing our enjoyment? TIA!
I was on her recently and the cruise on a whole was fine. The ship however is quite tired and in need of serious attention. Drydock would help!

The DR meals as sometimes seen in the buffet but never on formal nights.
Not true! Last October on the Grand I enjoyed Beef Wellington on the buffet on the second formal night that was awesome!

It's not really relevant if some people already have a Kindle. I have one also but I'm not going to bad mouth Princess on giving it to others. We received a Samsonite 29 inch suite case on our first cruise (we did not need it then) but thought it was a nice thing for them to do.

Worst ship we have ever been on by far, will never be back on this ship again. Ship should be taken out of service, water leaking, terrible smells, broken deck chairs, toilets not working, public washroom doors not locking, a/c in room not working, very dirty and dusty ship. On a positive note, the employees were great and the food was the best we ever had.
If it is that bad in the passenger areas, can you imagine the state of disrepair in crew sections of the ship. Yikes!

Are you saying that you want one to accompany you off the ship and with you while you tour the port?
I remember Ace doing that quite often.

It's been on menus in MDR for years. On all 7 of the Princess ships I've been on.
