  1. Hi we always book ahead on line as has been described. We book ahead for every night and then change whilst we are on board if we need to. If you enjoy the shows then take care that you book times which will fit and of course these are geared to first and second seating times ( 6.30?? and 8.30). We have also found that there may be 2 lines at the entrance to the dining room so look out for a short queue for those folks who have reservations. Having shared tables for many years and (with the exception of 1 occasion) had nice table companions we now book a table for 2. The tables are very close so sometimes we chat or sometimes one gets the vibe that people just want to eat quietly. Cheers

  2. Are taxi's plentiful when you disembark? We are going directly to the airport after the cruise in October.

Hi I understand that on disembarking the ship we should go to the taxi line where the despatcher will call a cab for us, quoting a price. I understand that taxis are not allowed to wait in the despatching area but are called forward as required. However since I picked up this info I understand that there is a new cruise terminal so perhaps if someone has more information on this they will help us both. Thanks

  3. In the tourist area you may be OK with $US but your change will be in Canadian. You will not get the best exchange rate.

There will be no problem with credit cards.

    Hi

we are doing New England in September and being from the North of England credit cards tend Not to be used for small purchases example 2 cups of coffee - would it be acceptable to use card as I am very happy to use this and I do get an excellent exchange rate. Thanks

  4. I know you were not specifically asking me and I think the other cruise critic member has more experience but here is what happened when we embarked just a couple of weeks ago.

There is a new cruise ship terminal at Port Liberty. The cab pulled right up in front of it where porters were loading bags on trolleys. After the bags were loaded we walked just a few steps to the doors to the terminal building and went through security that was set up inside for carry on items. From the time we dropped our bags off until we had gone through security was only 10-15 minutes or so when arriving at 11 a.m.Hope this helps.

Many thanks and yes it really does help. I find that forward planning helps a lot. We plan to leave our hotel at the Newark Airport Marriott about 10.15am to hopefully arrive at the port for 11am. We have been on lots of Celebrity ships and enjoy Bistro on 5 for a nice quiet relaxing lunch. Cheers and many thanks again for your help.

  5. That may have been Signature transportation...you got a great price, within the normal amount, and they have been helpful to me for other transporttation needs...

Hi just been looking at your blog on Cape Liberty and its really useful especially for someone like me from England. We shall be arriving from the Airport Marriott by cab. Do we drop our bags at the "tent" and is this where we leave the cab and walk to the terminal. Many thanks Alan

Note: our cruise is in September to New England

  6. We stayed at the Newark Airport Marriott and arranged a car service

with the one that is associated with the hotel to Cape Liberty .Including tip it was $65. We were asked to pay upfront to the taxi stand in front of the hotel and had a choice of cash or credit.

On the way back to Newark Airport after the cruise we picked up a cab from the cab stand at the cruise ship terminal and it was $65 BEFORE tip. I gave the driver cash plus a tip. I do not know if credit cards were an option.

Many thanks that's great! I have emailed some of the car companies recommended for a quote but sadly none of them have got back to me. We are staying in New York after our cruise and we have been advised to go to the cab stand as you did due to the uncertainty of disembarkation time if we were to pre-book a car. I also understand that I will need lots of $10 bills as drivers do not like high denomination notes. Many thanks for your help and any other advice will be gratefully received. Cheers Alan

  7. We are sailing on Summit in September and will be staying at the Marriott Newark airport overnight following our flight from the UK. How much can we expect to pay for a taxi from the hotel to the port please and should we just let the hotel arrange the taxi for us. Also is it best to pay the driver cash or by card. Many thanks.

  8. Thanks for your reply Carol. We are staying at the Marriot which apparently is very close to the arrivals hall. Perhaps you can clarify for me the problem with us not having a US cell phone - I do have a mobile phone which has international roaming. Apologies if this is a really dumb question. Many thanks for your help.

  9. We are sailing on Celebrity Summit from Cape Liberty next year and will require taxi from our hotel Marriot at Newark airport to the port to join our ship.

We will require a taxi from Cape Liberty to our hotel on Times Square on our return and then taxi back to Newark airport at the end of our holiday.

Can anyone suggest transfer companies and if it is better to pre-book. Also any idea on cost. And is there a shopping mall near to the Marriot ?

    Many thanks

  10. Does anyone know where the Elite Lounge will be now that Michaels club is to be used for suite guests. I'm mainly thinking about breakfast on the M class ships. I'm sure that evening cocktails will be in the lounges at the top of the ship (Sky lounge etc). We never liked the breakfast in Michaels on M class much preferring the setup on the Solstice class ships where it is served in Tuscan Grill. Maybe they will use the new restaurant ( formerly the flower shop) on the M class ships. Does anybody know!! Cheers and thanks.
