  1. We have done last minute Caribbean and MX., really not too much planning goes into those cuz we know our way around, but was concerned with so many options for AK. and booking out by only a few months. DH is a fisherman and did want to do that but with a recent shoulder fix, that might be out. I am the planner, haven’t used a TA in years, but I’m not sure that I want to tackle all that research this time. Usually the week before the actual sail date, I am ready for a padded room with no windows! ;)

  2. Have always planned on sailing the Alaskan inside passage with Princess for our 50th anniversary, but some surgeries in the last 12 months have made us wait on booking. Is it too late now to try for something in August or September? We are not new to cruising so we understand that this is probably not one of those last minute decisions that makes sense, but DH still has his heart set on this year, I’m having a hard time convincing him otherwise. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  3. As already stated the PBP is the Premium Beverage Package where all drinks less than $12 are included in the package. There is a 15 alcohol drink maximum per day however but non-alcohol drinks (soda pop, coffee etc) are all you can drink.

The "drill down" is when you log into Princess and then go to the plan a cruise section and make a mock reservation on your upcoming cruise and cabin type. It will tell you what the going price is at that time for cabins in your price bracket. It is a mock booking since you don't go any further to actually book the cabin. That is how we find out if they are offering the same cabin type at a lower price (or higher in some cases!). You can then call Princess or your TA to switch to the new price if it is less than what you are now paying. However watch the sales for new bookings only. Clear as mud?

Thanks to you and “Mario” for the replies, they were exactly what I needed to know!

  4. Is Astronaut a street? If not, can u give me some info on the hotels location or a link so that I may check them out? I am "exhausted" trying to final a reasonably priced property that is not too far from the port!

Sorry, I knew that this was too good to be true, I had the wrong port! We r sailing out of Port Everglades. The price was great plus we r members of the Carlson Club, shame on me for not paying more attention. But thanks for the response, it was much appreciated. Safe sailings to u and your family.

  5. So I ended up booking Country Inn & Suites there on Astronaut. They offered free hot breakfast and we managed to get a 1 bedroom family suite for a decent price ($139).

Residence Inn was over $200 and just couldn't justify that price for only over night.

Now I'm hoping that the place will still be standing after Irma hits. :(

  6. Everyone is so impressed with all of your hard work here, myself included. The time and the effort that you have put into this project, all in the hope of helping others, is much appreciated.

I have one request for an updated photo though. There is already a photo posted in your archives of cabin E412 on the Star Princess. If anyone who is sailing on the Star in that cabin in the next few months could send the OP a photo or two of the view from that cabin while actually sailing, I would be thrilled. The present photo is before she sets sail, I believe, making it a little hard to visualize the view while she is not in port.

Again, that would be cabin E412 on the Star Princess. Either way, the photos here have been helpful, and again, thanks for trying to help others make an informed decision.

  7. I believe it is early dec.

The star was the first to get the international cafe updates three years ago but she was not able to get everything done like the golden Caribbean and the grand due to some work issues. She will now get it all dIone.

So casino and crown grill moved, shore excursion desk moved, ov suites, CC and FCC office moved. Skywalkers is staying only the grand had the issues with it.

Star allready had vines, piazza, from previous remodel oh and mutts too.

"moved" to where? The same deck, a different deck?

  8. In January 2012 we are sailing in E405 on Star Princess from Rio Brazil to Santiago Chile. If the obstructed isn't too bad we will sail in E416 on the Diamond Princess from Bangkok Thailand to Beijing China. If we can make do with the obstructed view without missing too much it gives us more to use on the week long pre in Rio and post in Valpo of 4 days. The Far East cruise is 16 days and we want to do 12 days pre/post cruise land tours. If I really don't like the partial obstructed view I suppose I can change the October cruise easily enough (probably will have to rebook anyway once we decide on the precruise not to mention the possibility of FCC credit!) I will try to figure out where E412 is and take a peek. Remind me later as my senior moments seem to be approaching senior hours.

Thank you also. Yes, we are sailing on the Star in E412, SF to HI. in March.

If you remind me to remind you to take a peek at E412 before you set sail on the Star in Jan., we'll be A-OK! ;) I completely understand those senior issues!

  9. We were in E406 for our Golden Hawaiii cruise and here is the shot I took of the port side Cat. E partially obstructed view cabins which are located in the center of the ship, between the lifeboat. Cabin E412 would be the second window in front of the lifeboat on the right side and since the Star is a sister ship it should have this view from inside.

Was this shot taken before you sailed? Just wondering as on the far left in the photo from the inside looking out, there appears to be a gangway or walkway. If not, do you know what that is?

    Thanks.

  10. Luvseadays We will be on the Star Princess in Jan in obstructed view cabin. We are booked for E405. What cabin for you? perhaps I could go on deck 7 and locate it from below to see what your view is like. BT.

Sorry for not getting back here for the last few days, lots of yard work here in MN. at this time of the year, what with raking, etc., and getting things ready for winter, ugly word, winter, but anyway.

We are in cabin E412, thanks for the offer! Where are you sailing from/to?

  11. Hi All,

Thinking of switching from 2 inside cabins on caribe deck to 2 OV obstructed on emerald (ruby princess). Probably e422 or e505. I found some pics on here and the view still looks pretty decent. Do you think it's worth the extra $300 total for the 2 cabins or should I just keep my inside cabins?

First cruise so I'm very indecisive :p Thanks!

We booked an OV obstructed on the Star for next March. We have done insides, balconies, and unobstructed OV's in the past. Of course in a perfect world, we would always have the balcony, but just could not do it this time, (medical bills), so we decided that our best bet was the obstructed view, at least that way, we will have light in the cabin. Don't think that I could ever sail again w/o some natural light. Saved quite a bit with just some minor obstruction in our sight. I did do a lot of research though before finally choosing the cabin, some have practically nothing blocking the window, others have much more.

Good luck with your choice and happy cruising!

  12. We have decorated our cabin door for quite some time now and I just love doing it. As many have said, it sure makes finding the cabin easier, especially on larger vessels.

I purchased some gel window decorations that were fish with bubbles and underwater greenery that I put on our balcony door, it immediately broke the ice between our cabin steward and us. There are tons of gel decs that are around, have fun with them.

Here's another idea for some like me who adore their grandchildren, (or children), and enjoy seeing their darling little faces everyday. I have purchased many little magnetic frames, either at my local Walgreen's or the Dollar Tree, and put recent photos of the kids up on the walls in the cabin. On our last cruise on 1/31 on the Azamara Journey, I had recently found 4x6 frames with neon colored backgrounds at Walgreen's for something new. I also found some little magnetic frames with flower shapes for our granddaughter and a baseball shape for our grandson's photo. Most of these frames are 2x3 or 4x6 and a couple are 5x7.

We got many complements from our cabin steward and his assistant. And during the cabin crawl, people couldn't stop asking me where I had found them.

Have fun with all of these!

  13. We have been putting something on our cabin doors for quite some time now.

My husbands 50th b-day cruise, I found an old photo of him on his 1st b-day and then combined that with a recent photo, with a caption that said, "Happy Birthday Baby", put them on an 11x14 poster board and just used some blue 3M tape to hold it on the door.

Our 35th wedding anniversary was something similar, one of our wedding pictures with a formal night photo from a cruise the year before, caption reading, "who said that it wouldn't last"? Again, the same blue painters paint.

People were constantly stopping and chatting with us about the photos and also thanking us for helping them find their own cabins quicker, "remember honey, our cabin is 4 doors down from the anniversary photo cabin"!

Trying to think of something new for our upcoming cruise now!
