  1. Hi Melli,

I'm Vinnie from Las Vegas. I just returned from a Smooth Jazz Cruise in the Caribbean and leave on May 2 for a 21 day cruise on Regency Seven Seas Voyager that will sail the Middle East leaving from Dubai and ending in Barcelona.

I took 3 cruises last year including 11 nights in the Med plus a cruise out of Istanbul and a River cruise thru Germany.

I am always available to leave at a moments notice as I've made my mark in business therefore don't need to work.

    Nice to meet you!

I have just come back from an Itaky/Spain cruise and will be on the NCL escape in about 7 weeks...yay:D

Your cruises sound great! - You know how to enjoy life!;)

Which one is your favorite cruise? - My favorite has been Alaska two years ago...

    HAPPY CRUISING to you all!

Especially to Nisky who has been keeping this thread alive over a looong time! You are amazing!!!!!!!

  2. Hello meli! I'm a single man here age 31. I love to travel and usually go to a resort in Mexico. I don't travel nearly as much as I'd like to. It's hard to do single! And I'd rather go on a cruise with someone, not something I'd like to experience for the first time solo. I just wanted to say hello 👋

    Hi Kevin!

Great to hear from you! You will meet many nice people to talk to on cruise ships or you can join a roll call here on these boards... I really enjoy getting to know someone on these boards and then perhaps have a coffee or dinner together on board a ship...

    have a great day!

  3. First, kudos to Melli for "manning" this thread for so long. My name is Jim. I'm 74 and, although married, have traveled single on two previous cruises and next month I'm doing a 10 night eastern Caribbean on Celebrity Equinox. My first cruise was an 11-night southern Caribbean cruise (loved Cartagena, Colombia) and the second cruise was a five-night western Caribbean with Celebrity. My favorite excursion was a guided motorcycle tour of Cozumel. Vroom. Vroom.

I load up my iPad with tv series I've heard were good and binge watch them in the coffee lounge, the library or my room. I also put a few good books on Kindle. I'm a big people watcher. I'm the type of person who is comfortable being alone. I don't need or want company. I like making my own decisions unlike in my married life. When I return home I know I've been missed. It's all good.

Thanks, Jim!:) Very kind of you...

I love what you write about being comfortable alone...people watching is also one of my cruise favorites ;)....and while watching them I always can't help to feel that I am the only person on board who is really relaxed...:D;)

    Happy Cruising!

...yea, I was on the Sky some years ago and I also enjoyed myself - I think the Sky is great fun for a great price!

    Have a great day!

  5. Hi. I just reyurned from the Norwegian Breakaway to Bermuda, having cruised with two friends. We met a few other single or solo female cruisers of all ages and a few younger male solo cruisers. Everyone has had positive solo cruising experiences. We three thought it might be interesting to go on an actual singles cruise. Has anyone done that and if so what was it like?

Back from the Breakaway!? Please tell me about it - what was your favorite restaurant, show etc.? I have just been on the Sun and it was a great cruise - Alaska was awsome - but didn't like the ship so much as in my view it is too old and worn and hopefully will get refurbishment soon...anyway still love NCL and especially the "washy washy" - song :-))

    Have a great day!!

  6. Hi all, I am currently going through a divorce. I have several cruises booked over the next year. I cruise Carnival. I am not sure how it will all work out with these cruises and I am honestly afraid of cruising alone. You all seem so positive about it. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated. I am a 47 yo female.

    -Maria

    Hi Maria!

From my experience I can say that it is just the first step which seems so difficult - once you have made that first step, that is book a cruise you like , everything seems easier....and then right on the first day of your cruise you will feel fantastic! Promise!

Happy cruising! Have a great day!

    melli

  7. CONGRATULATIONS, GREG!!!!:)

....so finally the "Love Boat" has become real, right.....how awesome is that!

    Hey melli

    Sorry for the delay

Just back from Hawaii and Scotland

I work for myself and usually take my work with me

Yes done lots of the world and most would be via cruising

Only thing is I am now officially off the market

    Enjoy your cruising

    Greg

  8. Doing great thanks for asking. How about you? Summer started for the kids at the beginning of June and ends at the beginning of september. Just working today. Took this pic today. Do you teach high school students? Talk with you later

I teach middle school, that is 10 to 17 year olds in my case - after school they can apply for an apprenticeship or go to a highschool and graduate...

What do you do in law enforcement?

  9. Oh well the pic didn't post. Couple more weeks and you will be in alaska.

    Smithers how are you today?

Weather here is great today and that is indeed something special lol

Still 5 weeks until summer vacation - are your kids already on summer vacation?

  11. That is exactly what I would be afraid of..talk about a awkward and uncomfortable situation. ..it is always easier to laugh later but not when the situation is happening.

    You're right!

Smithers, I have to go for dinner now...Have a great day!

    Melli

  12. Yea and the other part for me is when I am on vacation I never sleep well. would hate to keep someone else awake or annoyed. [emoji3] If I did do the singles thing I would have a roomate...and sometimes it is nice to have time to youself. Especially when you don't even know the person...yea definitely wouldn't want to feel like a piece of meat...I don't think everyone thinks that way but I am sure that some do. I am a early riser so I like to go to the gym and work out for a little while.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

I'm an early riser too, like to walk some miles round the ship :-), and sometimes due to the 6 hours time difference to Europe I fall asleep quite early - I could never share a room with a stranger - it would really stress me cause the person might be on a completely different schedule...I had to share a room once but that's over 15 years ago and I didn't know which roomate I would get - oh my, she came home very late every night, had a lot of drinks, a lot of :-( and one night she even took a guy to our room while I was asleep - that was completely crazy and I really complained about her the next day - horrible vacation - now 15 years later I can laugh about it lol

  13. Life is too short to worry about the small mistakes...besides no one is perfect. I was thinking about doing a singles cruise in feb. but really am 8n the fence.

Can't give you any advice as I have never been on a singles cruise but I would perhaps be a bit annoyed as I guess I perhaps would feel a bit like being on a market and I am the horse and everyone is checking me out....lol

  14. I guessed that you are a English teacher. You are very fluent in the english (; language. I saw that beach in st.maartin also. I thought it would be neat to visit it. April 3 hmm...i am definitely thinking about it. If I went the 3rd I would have my own room. That would be a plus...I heard the cabins are actually quite a bit smaller than most people think.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forums mobile app

I try to be fluent - Would please everyone forgive me any kinds of mistakes ...! :o

I booked an inside for April 4 and I'm always fine with the size of the cabins - it's a ship and not a hotelroom - people often forget that - and above all it's never the size that matters ....lol..I also liked the studio cabins for solo travelers but they are indeed really a bit small.

How come you would have your own room in April but not in February if I may ask?

April is a great time for Florida but the problem might be that the cruise perhaps is already fully sold out at that time of the year...

  15. I haven't book anything yet but I could enterain the idea. What subject do you teach??

Sent from my SM-T217S using Forums mobile app

I teach German and English - so I studied both languages at University and I was really focused on American and English literature . Now I have been into teaching for 11 years and I do still love it. lol

I will be on the Getaway on April 4 - never been to St Maarten - want to check out that airport where the planes are landing right above your head!:D

  16. I have a eight year old and a ten year old. German irish is my heritage. My name sake is german. I enjoy jim patterson books. I use to work on a Dairy farm full time but now I work a professional job in the security/law enforcement industry. I would mind meeting new people. (; A person can never have too many friends. A created a new group on Facebook called cruise critic unoffical solo/Single freinds if you ladies would like to join...I wouldnt be offended either way. Looks like that feb cruise will be my next cruise after that is in the air

I have a friend in Chicago who works in law enforcement too - that's an interesting thing to do. Yes, it's great to have friends around the world... the facebook group you created is a really nice idea - I'm not on facebook though - sorry

I will be on the Getaway also, in April 2015 - I can only go on vacation when my students have their vacation...;)

    Have a great day!

  17. Melli, I love the outdoors!! I was raised being outdoors...I was raised in the country and have always enjoyed it. Teaching my kids about the outdoors...My daughter wants to go hunting this year. When I started working I had a outdoor job and after school also. Alaska sounds like a good time...Almost moved there...I throw my ipod on and meditate...it is rather peaceful to me. I like to read also. What type of books are you into??...We have a oktoberfest fest here but nothing like germany. Where I live there are primarily German norweign iris decents....I am primarily German irish...let me tell you it's quite the combo...lol

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forums mobile app

I also enjoy the outdoors but always like to sleep in comfortable beds lol

Will be on the NCL Sun in August and see Alaska - can't wait!

How old are your kids? German-Irish? - Love Ireland! Have you ever been there? Beautiful green hills there...What kind of outdoor job did you do?

I also love to listen to music...I like to read different kinds of books- I like Dan Brown for example or Nora Roberts or I read travel guides etc. What are you into?

  18. Well I like to fish and hunt. I also like to go for bike rides and go hiking and going for walks and of course spending time with my kiddos. The occasional movie isn't out of the question either. How about you melli and nisky??

    You really love the outdoors!

I like going for long walks with my dog, hiking is also okay - but I also like reading or shopping :D

I'll be in Alaska for two weeks this summer - guess I'll enjoy the outdoors there - I love watching animals!

  19. Nisky, Have you visited D.C. ? Flew into there but that is about it. I think that would be a good place to visit. I enjoy learning about the history about most places.

I was there for two days and remember that the museums there were amazingly interesting! (And they were completely for free which is so special in my view as in my country you always have to pay ....lol)

Loved the museum about aircrafts and spaceships and the museum of arts!

  20. I was in Orlando in 2003. I did the theme parks while I was there. I have been to Vegas a couple of times and don't have the desire to go back. First time was great second time not so much. I have friends from all over the u.s. and around the world so that is nice. I want to hit NYC and visit the memorial. I have researched New York much so I am not sure what I would really like to do. I have a couple days off so is always a nice day. I learned German in high school. I found that it depends how the teacher teaches it. I found it some what easy to learn

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forums mobile app

    Hi Smithers!

I think it's great you learned German at high school - and I do agree that in many cases it depends on the teacher...;)

I also was in Orlando many years ago and I enjoyed the Universal Studio park most - the only thing I would do is to come back for Animal Kingdom one day as it is the only park I haven't visited yet...

Do you have a couple of days off at the moment? - What do you like to do in your spare time?

    Have a great day!

    melli

  21. Well it was directed at anyone ...New York area...You definitely know about cold and snow there too..lol...Both of us have had quite the record snow fall and now this year..record rain fall.I have never really been that far east...Pittsburgh is as far as I have been and that was for work and ended up being a work and sleep situation. Germany baveria...on my bucket list...My German is a little rusty but...guten tag Melli. Have a good time at work.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forums mobile app

...about the "rusty" German - I guess it's a really difficult language to learn anyway - Guten Tag too ;)

Nisky, I've been to New York already many times -actually to Manhattan as all the tourists do - love shopping and the theatres on Broadway...Amazing!

Never been to Pittsburgh though - been to Washington, Boston and Phily - love New Orleans and Miami Beach.

    What are your favorite places?

Smithers, will it be your first time in Florida when you'll go on the Getaway?

    Have a great day!

  22. If you don't mind me asking where are you from?? ...

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Forums mobile app

Germany - Bavaria - land of the Oktoberfest, beer, pretzel and sausage:D

...living close to the mountains means you have to enjoy the winters ...yeah acting like a kid sometimes keeps people young, doesn't it...I travel a lot - that also keeps people young I think...

Have a great day! Gotta go to work now...

    melli

  23. I live in minnesota where the summers reach 80's and 90's and the winters well can be rather cold melli. So that means the poor people on my cruise better wear sun glasses because my summer tan will have worn off and I will be as white as a ghost...lol... totally cool with going grey..that means that we have had some great life experiences right??

....yeah, heard and read about it - must be nice though - sometimes. Sometimes I like snow but mostly because my dog loves it :)

I hardly never ever have a summer tan as I have really fair skin - even after my trip to Florida - I always look like someone from an icy country lol...

moreover don't know if I'm going grey as I dye my hair ...but guess it starts going grey underneath the hair dye lol I always think grey hair is only sexy on men ;):) And yes, life experience is a great thing!
