The getaway...it will be nice to leave to warm weather instead of being in sub zero temps.

Well, Smithers, you said "sub zero temps".....would be interesting to know where you are from?

I myself also enjoyed the last two weeks in Florida as I love the sun and the warm weather which I don't get often enough here at home....

  2. So long for the day, Melli and Smithers. My daughter's baby shower is today and she wants me to get her balloons inflated when Party City opens. Have a great Sunday, cruisers!

At a colleague's baby shower we once had cupcakes with pink and light blue frosting and little silver stars on it - that was very cute...Enjoy the Party!

  3. I am not a "senior" yet late thirtys....althought there is more grey showing through day by day...lol...I tend to be more reserved than people my age it seems. oh well we all live life the way we feel is right..care free laid back.... It just means that you are a young women still is all.

Late thirties sounds good to me, Smithers - and men always seem to get more handsome once there is more grey showing through day by day - so just relax! ;)

I'm 37 and I feel great! Would not want to be 21 again...

Check out the restaurants on the Getaway - I love the Moderno and I guess the Oceanfront restaurants are great locations -but I also enjoy the buffet as there are a lot of people who like to have a little conversation...

  4. Hi Smithers and Nisky!

Nisky, I so much agree with you concerning the reasons for cruising - and it is sooo relaxing, a great way to see many places and a place where you can meet nice people... the best chats I had on cruiseships I guess :)

Smithers, the Getaway sounds great - I will be on her in April 2015 - can't wait! I've just come back from a trip to Miami Beach and a couple of people told me there they loved the Getaway!

    Have a great Sunday1

    Melli

  5. Anyone out there?

Now where are all the charming guys who always just read this thread and never answer.....?:)

Come on! No Prince Charming out there?!?;)

Just write something nice - that can't be too difficult!?

    I'm desperately waiting.....

My first cruise as a single was in January 2014 on the Carnival Splendor. With me were my 18 year old daughter and her friend and both of them had a blast - without me. LOL. In spite of the lousy weather (it rained every day and I never got into a pool) we all had fun. I enjoyed the Carnival Ecstasy in October 1997 and the Carnival Imagination in November 2000 but those cruises were with my family. I must say the Splendor was a bit worse for wear but still a party ship, which is what Carnival is known for. The food and service were excellent and our cabin was a good size for the three of us to share. The window caulking was coming apart so I reported it and the bathroom shower caused a flood the first night so that had to be repaired, but otherwise it was truly a terrific cruise. I'm hoping to go to Bermua in September 2014. I was booked on the Norwegian Breakaway from Manhattan to Bermuda through a reunion but it's been cancelled due to not enough cruise registrations and I realized I can't afford the nearly $1000 passage anyway. I'm probably going to book the Royal Caribbean Explorer Of The Seas from Bayonne, NJ to Bermuda and still investigating reviews and info about the ship. It will be my 2nd cruise as a solo but my daughter and her friend want to join me again, as does a friend who's only other cruise was a one night out of NYC that I talked her and another friend into in 2007 but I ended up not going because my brother was dying of cancer. She's excited about going to Bermuda - we all are. Any of you familiar with the RCCL Explorer of the Seas or Bermuda?

    Hello!

I have been on the Voyager of the Seas which is sister ship of the Explorer! I love the Voyager Class as for me they are the right size - just right between the Allure and the Liberty size ....I really enjoyed the food and the shopping promenade on the Voyager. If you have any special questions - just ask!

    Have a great day!

  7. Hey melli

    Just back in aus

Tired and now needing to get over it

Hawaii was pretty cool and found the people and the live local music the best highlight actually

Been there before and love it

Next cruise is meant to be the return leg fro Hawaii but don't think I will as most likely heading to scotland then to catch up with a friend and my daughter whilst on her holiday

I live travel and want to do more through Germany as only been to a few places

You travel a lot also by the sounds of things

So do you get alit if holidays or are they all just used in cruising

I also cruise Cunard and princess a bit

Take care and have a great day

Hawaii sounds really cool indeed! - I have never been there but a friend also told me that the music there is really good. I also love Scotland - been there about three times as it's just two hours away by plane - beautiful country - love the green hills there!

How old is your daughter? I don't have a child but a Labrador dog and he's actually almost like a child:)

I also love travel and I do it a lot as I have 12 weeks of vacation per year! I mostly go on cruises but also like city trips etc. or just a relaxing vacation at home or in Florida for example. What about you? You seem to travel a lot also - do you get a lot of holidays?

    Have a great day!

    Melli

    Hi Greg!

Great to hear from you! A cruise to Hawaii? - Sounds pretty cool! Guess it must have been awesome?! What did you enjoy most?

Yesterday I booked a New England cruise on the Liberty of the Seas for August 2015 - this August I'll be in Alaska on the NCL Sun. Rccl is also my favorite cruise line - but I guess I would check out any kind of cruise line just because I love cruising and the different itineraries....;) RCCL in my opinion has awesome ships though - I looooove the Allure!

So you are from Australia? - It's great to be able to talk to a person that is sooo far away - I'm based in the South of Germany - Bavaria actually - where the Ocktoberfest and things like these are ....:) On my last cruise to Italy and Spain I met a lot of Australians and people from over 50 different countries were on board - that's what I also like about cruising.

When is your next cruise, Greg?

    Have a great day

    Melli:)

  9. Hi melli

Have not done any if the big ships yet, but am planning on coming over the end of the year and doing most of them

Am on quantum for the inaugural ta

Favorite cruise destination would be New Zealand for a whole cruise, and individual ports would be Dubrovnik

    And Venice

Nicest to sail in and out of

Sydney, Hobart, Stockholm and then Venice

What about you, what ports and destinations grab you, and where are you based?

    Greg:)

    Hi Greg,

    sorry,

my reply took some time as I've just come back from a cruise on the NCL Jade...I saw Italy, Spain and France and what's even better I've just become a platinum member during the cruise which is the highest level of NCl latitudes membership:D:)...they gave me some nice and cute goodies during that cruise already...

Great you like Venice - never been there but must be great - I've cruised out of Stockholm though and also loved it....the Anthem must be awesome - amazing that you will really be on the inaugural cruise:)congrats!

I guess my favorite destination is Alaska and I will be on my first Alaska cruise in summer - can't wait. I also love parts of the Carribbean like Barbados, Antigua etc.....and I also would like to go on a New England cruise some day...but I guess concerning cruising there's nothing which isn't interesting to me.

Where does your next cruise go to?

    Great talking to you!

    Melli

  10. Hi Melli

Yes I am a 47 year old cruisaholic, and mostly do rccl, but have done a lot of other brands over the years also.

Would love to chat and get to know you shooting the breeze over cruising

    Take care

    Greg

    Hey Greg,

great to hear from you! I also think RCCl is doing an awsome job - I would love to go on the Quantum in 2015 but let's see...my favorite ship is the Allure so far...what's your favorite destination, Greg?

    Have a great day!

  11. I'm a single man and usually take a cruise every month for one to two weeks. My next one is Oasis feb 8. How about you?

    Panama Jim

    Hi!

    That sounds pretty cool!

I take two to three cruises every year....whenever I can take some days off...

Oasis? - I loooooved the Allure! I guess you will have a great time.

Have you been on the Oasis before?

  12. I came across this thread as I am single going solo on the Freedom on the 5th of April (Yes a shameless plug). I am a single father of two daughters who grew up vacationing on Carnival...now that they are 18 and 20, I also seldom see them other then for dinner. So they insist I go away at the respectable age of 44 alone. Possibly a ploy to have the house to themselves.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

don't worry - I think it's normal if they want to spend time alone at that age as they practise how to feel like adults;-)

nevertheless it's you who's paying for their cruise so they could be more "thankful" and not only have dinner with you....next time just cruise on your own and enjoy life or send them on vacation to a youth camp etc :-)) - they don't want to spend time with "old dad" anyway....;-) and who wants to be on a cruise ship anyway...;-)

Anyway, Mike, look at some parents on cruiseships and how stressed they are and enjoy the fact that you can relax and meet some nice people and go to the singles's meeting and you can do whatever you want! How cool is that!?

Hope I could cheer you up a bit...

    melli

  13. You book really far in advance! I'm booked on the Getaway in October over Halloween. I'll let you know how it is for singles. I have already done Carnival and RCCL. Might do a NYE sailing 2015.

I'm looking forward to hear from you!:)

  14. Howdy! Room for one more at this party? :D My son and I have been cruising since he was almost 6, on DCL and RCI except for one voyage on Princess. Now that he's a teenager, I see precious little of him onboard, so I'm basically a solo cruiser at this point! Our next cruise is on Navigator of the Seas on 2/16, and I am SO ready.

Kinda bittersweet about this one though, since it'll likely be our last for a good long while at least until he's out of college. So I'm going to savor every moment on this next cruise and enjoy every minute!! :)

    Hey Gina!

Happy new year to you and enjoy the Navigator with your son! We all deserve a cruise from time to time!;)

  15. Never been there before. Looking forward to it. I want some good cajun food.

I guess you'll find good food in the French Quarter wherever you are...I remember the very yummy crabcakes....:)

  16. Already have a couple of cruises planned for next year. February doing a 4 day out of New Orleans returning March 3rd with the 4th being Fat Tuesday. Staying in New Orleans for a couple of days to check it out.

Got a 3 day cruise out of Los Angeles over Easter weekend, hoping some of my California friends can make it.

New Orleans is one of my favorite cities! I stayed at the Monteleone hotel which was an amazing and very old fashioned in a positive way place.

  17. Hi Melli.

    I'm 43, male, and single.

After remembering about three years ago how much I enjoy cruising, I've been on two cruises, an eastbound TA on the Norwegian Epic last year, and a seven dayer on the Carnival Glory this past summer to New England and Canada out of Boston. They both were with family members, but not shared rooms.

I thoroughly enjoyed both, although I cared less about specifics such as itinerary or ship characteristics. I'm usually really happy just to be on a ship, and everything else is just icing on the cake. Plus, I'm a low maintenance passenger, as I usually just go about my business without needing anything from the ship service staff.

Last week, I decided to take advantage of a last-minute deal, and booked my first truly solo cruise, nine days out of Barcelona on the NCL Spirit this Friday!

Thanks for starting this thread, and I hope you have a great day, too.

Great to hear from you!:) I myself I guess I am also a "low maintenance" passenger as I have never needed anything from the room service so far..:)

NCL Spirit out of Barcelona sounds great!! I would like to hear how the cruise was once you're back!;) I've been on several cruises departing from Barcelona - it think it's a beautiful city!

This April I will be on a Cruise on the NCL Jade departing from Civitavecchia - the cruise will also go to France, Spain and Italy...Can't wait!

A cruise to New England is also on my list for the future - I think it must be amazing! Did you have any favorite places there?

    Have a great day!:)

  18. Hello,

My name is Thomas. I am 43 also. I did my first cruise in 2010. My first few cruises where with my brother and his family. This year I got tired of waiting for people who wanted/were able to cruise with me so I just decided to book my cruises and go solo. I have been on 6 cruises so far this year with another 2 coming up in a few days.

I have only cruised on Carnival. Next year I am looking at cutting back and only doing 4 or 5 cruises.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app

You are so right! Why should you stay at home and wait for others to decide if they want to go on a cruise or not?! Just go on a cruise!!:D:)

That's what I've been doing the last 5 years and I always had a great time!

But of course it's nice to have someone to join during dinner or on the excursions....my favorite cruiseline is NCL - never been on Carnival...wow six cruises! How cool is that!?:) What's your favorite port?

    Have a great day!

  19. HI Melli: I have been to Alaska 4 times. First cruise was the Inside Passage = the last 3 Alaska Cruises were southbounds on HAL Ships. Seward to Vancouver. I like that itinerary as it is very smooth with the wind to our backs! Lot's of Glaciers, History of Alaska in Sitka, Juneau, and Ketchikan and the Totem Pole Climbers.

As I mentioned earlier I am booked on my favorite ship, the Ryndam = 1250 passengers and very easy to get around. The Ryndam is 1 of 4 HAL Ships that hold 1250 passengers. You have to try it soon. I think the Ryndam is going to Europe again next Summer, I believe the Statendam will be doing Alaska next Summer. Try it, but NOT alone.

I'm looking forward to Alaska! Can't wait! Thanks for the information, Robert!

Enjoy your cruise on the Ryndam!

    Have a great day!:)

HI: Another thing I thought about if you are still going to Alaska. Passengers were complaining "why was there so much fish on the Menu! Answer: Well, you're up in Alaska, home of the Halibut and Salmon! In the 1980's and 1990's, they would bring the BIG King Crab Legs, already split! The legs would be piled about 12" to 18" high!:p

....cause I'm a seafood lover! :):D;) There can never be enough fish on the menu! On my last cruise to Norway RCCL seemed really to avoid the seafood on the menu.....

  21. HI: I am leaving on Holland America's Ryndam out of Tampa, Florida on the 1st of December. Looking for a friend to share sights, dinners, etc. I have been on HAL ships since 1987 and always have a good time. I am 74 which might be too old for you, but don't judge a book by it's a cover.

Always nice to have someone to have intelligent discussions, and enjoy the shows. What does a 30 or 40 year old have to discuss what I have enjoyed thru my lifetime?

If interested, drop me a line on Cruise Critic, Boards or robertmnch underscore at 26 msn dot com! Also check FACEBOOK with a last name of a famous river in NY State!

    Hi Robert,

what a pleasure to hear from you! Yes, you are right - one never should judge a book by the cover. So I think it's great that you wrote back - as more than 1000 cruisers have just been reading this thread without writing back....

Well, I have never been on on one of the HAL ships. Have you got a favorite ship? And I really would be interested if you have already been on an Alaska cruise cause I'll be on one in summer and would like to hear about your cruise experience...

    Have a great day, Robert!
