  1. I agree that the tour of the Mayan ruins would probably be our best option.

In your case I would agree. I like beaches and such but what I like about Costa Maya the most is, it's a beach in Mexico you can still go to long before the tourists have come in and taken over.

So few ships go there, I keep wondering how they make a living. It's a great place to lay back, take it easy and enjoy.

  2. The food isn't the greatest, but I don't really care if the food is good as long as the drinks keep coming. :D

Our first year to go to Passion Island was also the last year it was owned by Corona. Everything was GREAT GREAT GREAT just like a Corona ad. The beach is influenced by the weather. While you can have sea weed ( or the new Politically Correct term Sea Grass ) the staff can clean it from the beach so it still looks like a Corona ad. The food was good and the drinks were plentiful.

The next year we went back after it had been sold. Ownership sure makes a difference. The swim area was cut back about 2/3's, plenty of sea weed on the beach. The food was about the same. Drinks not only went down hill they ran out.

Never been back and really don't miss it after finding the East Side of the island.

  3. If you're spending 4X times more than the passengers on the cabin across the hall from you, maybe you should consider sailing on a more upscale cruise line where you will be pampered for that kind of money, regardless of past guest status.

DW and I always stay in a suite, we like it and we can afford it. The last time I booked a cruise the TA wanted to move us up to " Cloud Spa " suite. I told her we were fine on deck 7 and if we wanted to upgrade to rub noses with the hoytie toytie people we would change cruise lines.

  4. We just returned last Saturday.

If you are looking for excitement or something to get excited about you may be disappointed.

If you want to see what Mexico looks like before it's overwhelmed with visitors and tourists then this is the place you want to be.

Our biggest regret was having to leave and board the ship at the end of the day.

  5. Do any of the bar stops offer free wi fi?

Thank goodness, no. Heck they don't have electric lines, water lines or plumbing either. Mater of fact that side of the island only has very limited cell phone service.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

  6. brilliantseas, thanks for the pictures and the details on the bar hop.

The only thing I would like to add is a group of strangers get on the bus and when it is over a group of friends leave the bus.

  7. You can take a taxi. Make sure you know the price before you get in the cab. Also give the drive a tip and tell him you would like him to come back to get you.

If he does not get a tip he most probably won't come back.

  8. Car seat wont help, we didn't have seat belts in the back seats of of our cab last week from nachi cocom, There is nothing scarier than a mexican cab driver ...... That should be an excursion in itself ... :)

The only thing that tops that is watching a family of 4 on a moped carrying the groceries.

  9. The only problem with breakfast/brunch in the MDR is how popular it has become in the past couple of years.

Didn't usta be as crowded as it is now.

Besides eggs benedict you can get eggs cooked YOUR WAY.

    :D
