We've done Cunard! The lectures were wonderful, the food was only okay. We prefer HAL overall.
There's a ballroom hour at 5:00pm in Crows Nest on the older ships, piped in music though, and the band plays from 8:15pm on, in the Ocean bar, mostly Abba, R&R etc. Sometimes you will be able to squeeze in a cha cha cha or salsa.

I agree with Bruce, March 30th everyone was off the Zaandam by 9:00am, the first ones were off at 7:45am, so no problem at all to make your flight.

They've also added more seating to both the RS and Billboard areas when they removed the staircase.
I have found that the bands on the smaller ships that try to be the "jack of all trades" land up just not doing anything particularly well. You just can't get the BBK sound without brass instruments so saying they play R&B and Soul is fine but it's just not nearly the same experience. Plus that venue on the smaller ships is terrible. It's always either too cold or too hot and doesn't have enough seating for the size of the ship.
Sorry, I disagree with the above.

They were still selling the junk on the Koningsdam 2 weeks ago, not on Zaandam or Volendam.

Just did it twice, the inside waiting area is separate for 4* plus passengers until the boarding announcement starts, 11:30am, then get up and go.

1991, old Nieuw Amsterdam, 7 day Alaska, only a few ships up there, captain Jacob van Dijk, hotel manager Hans Dernison.

If Carnival allows it, then I would say, it's okay.

Valparaiso is the port. Santiago is a bus trip away. We sailed from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso last march
No stopping in Valparaiso anymore, it's Port San Antonio, 1 1/2 hour bus ride from Santiago.

The Zaandam had an early sailaway from Roseau, Dominica, today. We have one more stop before getting back to Florida.
I'll be waiting for her.

We had great service and good food on Celebrity. Cafe Bianco in the morning the staff was amazing. Yes, Hal is much more laid back.
If you go a couple of pages back, page 5, you'll hear a different story.

Trying Holland America again after a long absence. Have been spoiled on Celebrity by the amount of options to do at nighttime. Bu Holland America seems to be pretty quiet at night. We booked Niuew Statendam for a pretty port intensive itinerary so not worried about that. Plus lots of music options on that ship.
BUT in looking at Zaandam ,where there’s a fair number of sea days. Maybe there’s a game show one night and maybe a comedy show another night. Not much going on during the day for sea days as well. Pretty boring IMHO. Is this pretty normal for HAL?
Yes, that's normal for Hal, so you have a choice, poor service and food on Celebrity or great service and food and marginal entertainment on Hal.
