  1. Not true. We just did the Sun 10/9-10/20 and had to do immigration in St. Thomas, our last port before returning to Miami.

According to NCL's website, no passport is needed for any Caribbean cruise that begins and ends at the same port. From their site:

Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Or Canada & New England Cruises

For round-trip sailings (cruises that depart from and return to the same U.S. port), you may sail with either a valid passport, proof of citizenship and a valid government-issued photo I.D. (driver’s license with a photo), or any other WHTI compliant document.

    Proof of Citizenship examples include:

    State certified U.S. birth certificate

    Original certificate of U.S. naturalization

    Original certificate of U.S. citizenship

If you'll refer to the original post I was quoting, NJHorseman said that no immigration check is required in St. Thomas... I told him we just had one on our 10/9 Sun sailing. We weren't talking about documents required at the immigration check. ;)

  2. As I recall, the US discontinued putting its citizens through an immigration check at the first US port (in this case St. Thomas) some time ago. Only citizens of other countries will be required to go through immigration there. US citizens will be processed through immigration at the disembarkation port, Miami.

  3. In the old days I remember this itinerary from NYC and we arrived much earlier than Noon, allowing for a full day.

Curious as to why NCL can not arrive earlier than Noon--I suppose staying later would not work that well--they could of course leave at 10 Pm instead of 9 PM

If I'm remembering correctly, they were required to reduce speed because of whale migration -- I kid you not. This could be why they're now getting in at noon instead of earlier.

  4. I don't have any experience doing the cruiseline excursions, as every time I've made port at Port Canaveral I've purposefully avoided doing a parks excursion. For me, it would be sheer torture to have only 5-6 hours to spend at Disney; just not enough time to do much of anything, IMHO. YMMV

  5. I think the jig will be up when you check in. I just don't see any way to wave off the check-in agent from escorting you to the suite pax lounge; it's just part of the experience.

I managed to keep our January GV a secret from hubby until we were inside the lobby of the GV, but only because we were previously booked in a suite before the upgrade... He was already expecting the suite treatment at check-in. You should have seen the look on his face when we entered the GV! :D Complete confusion, then utter delight.

  6. I confess: I'm not even going to attempt to read 2,556 posts to find this response, so sorry in advance to those of you for whom this will be an old dead horse...

Can someone please describe the concierge lounge for suite pax for me? This is our first time on RCI, we're in a GS, and I'm having a difficult time wrapping my mind around what all's involved with this.

    Thanks!

  7. i love the tune, but it drives my best friend/officemate crazy. He mocks how happy it makes me. Then again, he mocks everything regarding my newfound obsession with cruising. "cruise like a norwegian?" he'll say. "so you're gonna grow a beard and begin plundering our neighbor's office for snacky bits?"

  8. :p I've been approached by this guy so many times that I now make it my mission when I'm in San Juan to HUNT HIM DOWN just for the sheer entertainment!

Last time I saw him he started with the spiel, I let him get to the end, then I said, "You know, I've been here several times before, and always I meet you, and always your dad got beat up. You must have the most rotten luck in the world." He just turned and walked away! :p
