  1. I think the problem that you may not have thought about is the room may not accomadate 4 people. Some rooms only accomadate 3. So you may not even be able to add the 4th person to that room. Plus since the wow sale is now over you will possibly lose the onboard credit that was included for that sale.

I specifically booked a room that accommodates 5 with a Pullman, so I am set there when it comes to adding a fourth. But, as Bob said, I should give consideration to the muster station "filling" up and whether a person could be added to that station if we waited to add the fourth.

I don't see how ADDING a fourth this week would affect my WOW OBC?

  2. I saw this earlier but was hesitant to reply as I don't know for sure however all the same conditions still seem to apply so I'm assuming that the cancellation policies for 3/4 guests resin the same with no cancellation fee for 3/4 guests up to 2 weeks prior to sailing.

Thinking back now I seem to remember a post with someone cancelling a quad cabin prior to final payment and being charged the $100pp fee and having the FCC issued in each individual's name.

As much as I hate to recommend this action I would call (perhaps more than once) and get an answer from Royal.

Hmmm, this is the kind of info that makes me nervous (regarding canceling 3rd and 4th if we decide a few months from now that we can secure childcare and just take an adults-only cruise). Of course, we didn't have to choose the NRD rate, but it's the conflicting info that gets me. Will C&A deal with my question if our on-board booking went right to our TA? Have not booked directly w/Royal for years.

  3. Are there actual deposits involved with the KSF promo? Ours were too old and in their own rooms once these started appearing so we never got to take advantage of them.

Funny that you mentioned to call C&A. I'm not sure if it's the times that I typically call or what but ever since they moved some of the operations to Guatamala every time I call C&A I get someone in Guatamala. I have reverted to using the regular line and get someone from the US who has been very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm sure it's just been luck which now that I mentioned this will run out on my next call.

Indeed, there ARE deposits for each of the kids under KSF at $250 a piece, which doesn't really make much sense to me, when each of their totals are $110 in port taxes and fees. Although, we'd have to pay that eventually, of course, but requiring a $250 deposit on a "free" fare does seem contradictory to me.

  4. Clarea, thank you for your quick response. I wasn't thinking about the muster station; very good point.

Do you know if the (second) staff member was correct that there is no change fee on 3rd and 4th if we do decide to drop them later? And would that affect our room selection, if we removed them? (Currently booked one of the few rooms with a Pullman, because our oldest absolutely loved it.)

  5. We just got off the 10/15 Oasis where we booked onboard for next year, 10/21/18. This was our first cruise with our kids (7th and 8th cruise for the both of us, 4th time on Oasis), and our first experience with the new Next Cruise booking policies and the non-refundable deposit rates (more on that later; planning to do a separate review, but let me say I am quite disappointed with the new Next Cruise changes compared to the past policies). It was slightly financially advantageous to take advantage of the non-refundable deposit rate plus the WOW OBC that was being offered with it.

HOWEVER, we do no know yet whether we want to take the kids on this next cruise (then 5 and 3). Because KSF is going on through the end of the month right now, and our uncertainty, we booked one kid in the room to secure a Pullman room and figured we'd buy ourselves a little time (a week, ha!) to think about adding the other kid. Though we received conflicting info from the Next Cruise staff, they said the $100 change fee (for the NRD rate) does not apply for 3rd and 4th passengers to remove them. So: would you add the other kid right now with KSF going on and trust the staff member was accurate that there is no change fee to take 3rd and 4th passenger off prior to final payment? Or hope for another KSF in the coming months (it seems like it's running once a quarter at least right now) if we do decide to take the kids and add the fourth passenger later? (Hope this makes sense, because I was a bit confused myself with all the policy changes.)

  6. We are about to go on Oasis for the fourth time on 10/15. We love this ship! One tip: we never eat in the Windjammer. There is simply no need on this ship--too many other great complimentary dining options, and then you further avoid potential for crowds and lines--just seems more relaxing. We eat in the MDR or Park Cafe for breakfast (Johnny Rockets is another option), Park Cafe or Solarium Bistro for lunch (Wipeout Cafe at times too), and MDR and a couple specialty restaurants for dinner to use any TA vouchers we have (from what I understand, Solarium Bistro is now complimentary for dinner as well).

As far as what to do all day, well, what do you enjoy to do? The beauty of Oasis is she has something for everyone, and we sail on her FOR the ship, not the ports. I personally enjoy planting myself in the Solarium with a book, because I don't get many opportunities to pleasure read at home. My husband pretty much can be found on the Sports Deck, usually at the Flowrider. We both have discovered we love trivia in the Schooner Bar (different times throughout the day--check your Compass), and we enjoy the entertainment at night (we love the strings in Central Park and stopping in occasionally to watch karaoke besides the traditional shows). We also love meeting new people, and even though we do MTD, we always chat with guests at nearby tables (they are pretty close together) and we request to eat in the same section each night to get the same waitstaff (they usually can accommodate that, often at the same table). We have met some great friends that way.

This vacation, it will be our first time taking our kids, so it will be totally different. So we are looking forward to experiencing things through their eyes and going with the flow. But one thing is certain: I have NEVER been bored on Oasis.

  7. Thanks all! I'm sure my daughters (4 & 2) will also eat off the adult menu, but my 4-year-old was curious if there was mac and cheese, since that is something special around here. She was very excited to learn there was. [emoji6] This is their first cruise, and just the thought for them of getting to eat "special" foods more frequently pretty much thrills them!

  8. Thank you Clarea! We are on a waitlist for MFTD, which I believe starts same time as early dining? (We have two kids, 4 and 2. I don't know if anyone will want to sit with us, ha!) I was going to check with TA this week on the status of that, and then was hoping to email a request if we could secure a spot with that. This is our girls' first cruise, so hoping to get a spot off to the side near a window, because we're just not quite sure how they'll do ... but if we can't, we know it's not the end of the world!

  9. We now have to stay an extra night post-cruise (Oct. 22-23) after Frontier canceled our afternoon flight (thanks Frontier) and are wondering what to do/where to stay. Our dilemma is mainly because we will have our two young daughters, ages 4 and 2, who are probably going to be pretty whipped at that point after a week on Oasis of the Seas. We've stayed in Cocoa Beach plenty (and will for the night before the cruise), but we won't have any of our "beach" things to really enjoy the beach with kids that young (towels, umbrella/beach tent, cooler, sand toys, etc.). Wondering if there is something better to do in Orlando, like a hotel with or near a water park, like Typhoon Lagoon? (Where we wouldn't have to bring "beach" stuff.) We've never been to Typhoon Lagoon--would it be worth it for kids this age? Or something else we would all enjoy post-cruise? (Not tons of walking/would allow for a nap for my 2-year-old mid-day/etc.) Thanks!

  10. How many of you, when going on a closed-circuit cruise leaving and returning from a US port, actually get passports for your kids? Mine will be 4 and 2, and this is their first cruise. DH thinks birth certificates will fine for them (we have passports). We are only planning to get off the ship in Labadee. What do you guys do--passports or BC in this type of situation?

  11. Our kids both shower regularly, so that is not an issue. Going in a JS would get us to Emerald by the end of the cruise (not a big deal, I understand, but that much closer to Diamond). We've paid the same price for a D1 in the past that this W is now, but I was also so excited about how economical we were being at our booked price for four of us ... but wondering if it would be worth the extra $ for the extra space ...

  12. Checking prices today for our October Oasis cruise, and since they are running Kids Sail Free, it would make the cost of moving from our D4 on Deck 8 to a Suite Guarantee (Category W) only $1,000 more. (It had been running more than twice what we had paid for our D4). Worth it or no? Our kids will be 4 and 2 on this cruise--first time we're taking them.

  13. We bring ours. Our kids are 3 and 5. I assume you are going on a Caribbean cruise on The oasis? You will need them for the ocean for sure. On our last cruise We were going to leave them At home and buy them when we arrived but at the last minute didn't. Glad we didn't because I didn't see them anywhere! As far as car seats have you looked into a safe rider vest for your 4 year old? Pack less clothes and shoes and you'll be able to cram puddle jumpers into a bag.

Thanks for the puddlejumper tip--I am leaning toward taking them if I can make it work!

My 4-year-old is on the small side and still in a 5-point harness, not booster yet. Not sure the safe rider vest would work yet for her?

  14. We are taking our first cruise with our kids, who will be 4 and 2, on Oasis of the Seas in October. Both are potty-trained (I'm aware of the pool policy), and I am wondering from you veteran family cruisers: do you take puddlejumpers for young kids? Our girls wear these in our neighborhood pool--but I am wondering how in the world you have space to pack these? Any insights would be great--I've never packed for a trip of this kind with my kids and I am already starting to be a tad concerned as to how we are going to manage it, from car seats, to a stroller, to now this. Thanks!

  15. Because you're not interested in the itinerary, I would do the Oasis, but I say that only having cruised so RCI, so I can't comment on NCL. The Oasis is a destination unto itself. We're not big fans of the Western route either and the last time we did Oasis, we only got off on Labadee--and we were NEVER bored.

My DH is in his early 30's and likes a lot of activity and can usually be found on the sports deck (especially FlowRider). I can't comment on the kids' activities because we haven't cruised with ours, but I have also been on the Oasis the first time during the Christmas season, and it was beautifully decorated. We love Oasis and are about to go back on her for the third time in 2 weeks!

  16. Trying to decide between Sapphire or Coki beaches while in St. Thomas on Oasis next month and looking for advice ...

We have always gone over to Trunk Bay on St. John when previously porting at St. Thomas, but want to stay on St. Thomas this time. I think we've narrowed it down to Sapphire or Coki but need help making the final decision. I've read that Coki has more amenities and activities, but Sapphire's snorkeling may be a bit better and it is calmer/not as crowded. We like to snorkel (we have our own masks/fins) but I am pregnant, and I am a little concerned about the potential lack of food at Sapphire. I always bring snacks/granola bars with me, but I may need a full lunch while at the beach. ;)

So, which would you choose? If we go with Sapphire, what are the closest restaurants/food options? Would we need a cab to go get something or would there be somewhere to eat that we could SAFELY walk to?
