Because cruise lines essentially break even (if that) on fares, they really look to onboard spending for their profits.  This means that a single person occupying a cabin will reduce their revenue - even if that single pays 100% single supplement — he simply will not spend as much on board as the line figures two people will.

What facts do you have to back that up?  I have traveled solo for years on many lines,  there are no shortage of couples in cabins who never buy a drink, never hit a upcharge dinning, never go to the casino, etc.   I do all of those things.  And yet, when I pay the price of two in the cabin I don't get the double loyalty points, double perks,   Every cruiser if different, if the programs rewarding spending per person you would see a lot more Solo Customers at the top of the tiers.

  2. they almost always let you bring bottle water back on board from port, so just pick up a couple bottles each time you in port to cut the cost of the on board bottle water.   I bring an insulated water bottle and just keep filling a the buffet, or slip a bartender a dollar and they will put ice and water in it.

  3. be prepared to go to guest services with proof.  I did a B2B to move to  diamond, a 4 day and 14 day.  I did not get diamond on the first leg,  and when I checked in for the 14 I got a Plat card, had to got to Guest Services with S&S card from the 3 day to prove I was Diamond.   They explained it can take a week for days to get added, and they pulled the roaster before my other trip was over.   It will work out but not the easy guarantee everyone promises, and on the first leg its luck only if you get it, as you don't have the days as of that cruise.

  4. if you turn on wifi calling and go into airplane mode, with a package from Carnival you can get text and calls over wifi.  Its slow but works.   If you with Verizon turn on the international plan, then when in port you can turn the phone on for $5 10 dollars a day and use your own minutes and data rates to call or text to and from the US

  5. I will stand behind the shield with you, im a former smoker who has learned just how offensive my habit was. I fully respect its someones choice to smoke, its not their right to inflict it on me. I also know its the minority of smokers who chain smoke or blow it all over the table, most try to be considerate of others at the tables or slots.

I take exception to the comments if you don't like it sail some other company, Carnival would disagree since the majority of the people over all are non smokers, as are the majority of players. If only people playing smoked in the casino there were be much less of a problem, its the non players hanging out their to smoke that cloud up the space.

Its like most things, the majority of young people are smarter they I was and don't start and at some point the pressure of consumers and go smoke free indoors.

  6. Coming Back to RCCL after a few years on Carnival. when the VOOM package lists one device is that one at a time or only one can ever access?

By that I mean, I will have my phone, Fire and Ipad. on Carnival when I but the package I can have anyone of those on line at a time, but have to log off phone to use IPAD. Does VOOM work the same or do they someone lock it to the device?

    Thanks for any help

  7. We don't go on vacation to stand in line and eat mediocre buffet food. We also do not eat at Golden Corral or any buffets at home. We like to sit down and be served. We have never had dinner in the buffet with 12 + cruises

This at least gave me a good laugh, its the same food, the same head chef runs the Lido and MD, I find it so funny that people think they are doing fine dinning in the Dinning room, its all mass produced food using the same preparation methods, the only place close to having food fired as its ordered is the Steak House.

After a long day in port I will hit the Lido or do room service, but most days I will go and enjoy the company of new people in the dinning room

  8. I have done 3 day to 26 day trips on Carnival and never had a problem with Authorizations or holds as you refer to them. First no charges are put though till the end of the cruise. They usually ping it to see if its a debit card and may put a hold on funds, but seldom do a credit card since they run them the night before you get off and get the authorization for the actual charge and process the payment, You will know before you are let off the ship if there was a problem.

Worse case call you bank let them know you are traveling (good for security on fraud charges anyway) they can note the account and if anything flags on charges or authorizations not matching they have the information they need.

your best bet is to use a credit card, never cash. If there is any problem the bank will help you fight the charges, if you used cash your of luck.

you can away prepay your bank right before you leave, you will have a credit balance to handle any charges, and the security of using a credit card.

  9. Carnival is in on this, they get a big commission on everything sold, both on ship and in the Preferred shops in port.

First buyers need to be aware, know your prices, I got a "GREAT" deal too on a ring, 1/2 off then the "Shopper" got involved and got me more off, I was getting the Diamonds at 65% off, they would buy it back at its full value if I changed my mind. So i saved the tags, then got it appraised, it was valued at what i paid for it, as its retail price, Fast forward a year back on a cruise, same store, all tags and their printed receipt and offer to buy back. They agreed to take it for what I paid, not their tagged price, all of a sudden that was its value, I pointed out they showed the price of the rind 65% higher, they actual told me that's not its value. So if you want to pay full retail shop Carnival or its approved shops.

But to offer some help, call your Credit Card Company if you have in writing that the will do a full replacement the credit card company will help you fight, i hope you didn't just take a salesman word for it. I helped a friend fight for a damaged necklace, and once we got her Visa involved and they thought they would loose the sale, they were more willing to help.

  10. Hi

You'll love the cabin and balcony!

Yes, there's a sofa on the left (as you go in), in the corner beyond the bathroom which is immediately on the left. There is a very big TV on the wall facing the bed, with the wardrobe on the right. The balcony doors are on the right.

The position of the sofa means it's no good for watching the TV.

The Havana cabins have their own entrance on the deck 6 corridor, and they have their own staircase down to the Havana bar as well.

The bar has a live band in the evenings (till around 1am), but you couldn't hear them in the cabin with the balcony doors shut.

The bar plays music over the speakers during the day, but this was barely audible on the balcony.

This information was great, I was able to book 6469 for the NY to Miami sailing in November. I was a little worried about not being on the 5th floor when I gave up my interior to get the aft wrap, but then I saw your comment about a private stair, can you tell me where that is at? is in back in the hallway of the Havana cabins on deck 6? Thanks any other information or suggestions will be very appreciated.

  11. I have a H Interior and wondered is there a way to walk from your room right to the private pool area or do you have to come out and go via the bar area?

If you have stayed in an interior was it too load at night? Would you give it up for a balcony?

    Thanks for the help

  12. The old stage shows had 2 lead and 2 back up singers, the dancers lip sync, and the singers can seldom dance.

Play list are more intensive shows where everyone sings, and dances and a higher level of talent is needed to get cast in the shows. I have seen a few different casts and some have been outstanding performers.
