  1. I just heard that this season all Princess ships will be only docking at the Havensight area. Crown bay will only be used as a backup if there's not sufficient room.

Thank goodness Princess is going there, RCCL is now sending most of their ships to Crown.

  2. I received a letter from Royal about my cruise on Harmony Jan. 21.... it specifically says as diamond plus I will have access to the Diamond Lounge... PLUS the Conceirge lounge.... I wonder if this is just for this cruise or they are reconsidering kicking Diamond Plus out of the CL lounge.. anyone hear any rumors

    Star, one can only hope!

  3. I wish that was our itinerary. Done this one 4 times now. I loved Labadee the one time I've been there.

Wow, I wouldn't change St. Thomas for either of those ports. RCCL is going to places like Labadee and CoCo to make more money. While I like them they are just glorified beach days where RCCL controls everything. Labadee is part of the Western route typically. As for San Juan, many don't care for it after they have been there a time or two. Just my opinion of course.

  4. Count me in as another fresh ground pepper lover. I find the food almost always needs some fresh pepper to improve the taste. I don't care if it isn't on the table but it needs to be available when I ask for it which is twice a night (salad and meal).

  5. My camera always fogs up in the morning. Any suggestions?

John, actually there are two. As you know heavy lens on DSLR's get really cold in the cabins so they fog quickly when you take them out in humidity. You have to go up much earlier and let lens and camera warm up slowly or a second solution is they actually make little warmers to go in camera bag when closed to keep it from getting so cold overnight.

  6. She let Tortola and proceeded north passing San Jaun last night

NCL: *Norwegian Escape will not call on Nassau as scheduled tomorrow and will instead spend the day at sea.

What a shocker that is. 🙄. Have no idea why they thought they were going to make it. Wow 5 days at sea and only 2 ports.

  7. Thanks. I was wondering how the seas were looking/feeling down there.

My brother is also on he Escape and I asked him if anything has been said about Nassau, he said no. I suggested that they may skip Nassau and if they are lucky they go to San Juan. But as noted he said nothing official from Capt on anything. To be honest I am not sure they could make Miami by Sat in rough seas if they spent a full day on Thursday in SJ. Maybe a 4-5 hour quick stop.

  8. I've seen it happen from time to time. Actually happened to my wife a couple of years ago. In that case, it was due to a strong wind slowing people down.

Speaking of strong winds, here comes Matthew with Labadee very close to path and on the right side which is the stronger side of Northern Hemisphere Hurricanes.

  9. Obviously we plan to bring as little as possible, but I'm thinking we'll have a small amount of cash, ID's, phones, and a camera. We're bringing snorkel gear, so if we're all in the water together how safe is it to leave our things on the beach? Specifically St. Martin, Labadee and Bermuda.

I can tell you there is no such thing as being too careful anywhere these days. I would not leave anything of real value alone on the beach and that definitely includes St. Martin on the French side where one of the vendors walked off with stuff my sister had purchased earlier. A witness told us how it happened but at the time she had no idea what that vendor was doing. Now maybe something of no real value that can be replaced is the exception.

  10. I rented one first time I was there, rode it almost 4 days and did not have a problem. I was younger then and was very careful with no drinking at all while riding it. People get in trouble quickly there with all the lose gravel on the sides of the narrow roads. Having said that, the bus system is much better now and on my last visit I used the ferry's and buses which were just fine. The other thing is most ships dock at Naval Dockyard now which is a long way from say Hamilton on a scooter so your risks increases. On my first visit the ship went to Hamilton and St.George. The scooter rental company moved it for me from one port to the next which was nice.

  11. Trying to book Grandeur of the Seas (RCI). It says it's $525 per person and listed at this price solo elsewhere. When I try to book it charges me the (much, much) higher rate listed for picking a cabin. Anyone else had an experience like this? Did they just forget to change the price on the web site?

My guess is this is not a solo price, most likely PP.

  12. At platinum with frequent past guest offers and specials, Carnival will probably always be my go to line, but I really like Princess too. Am also looking at Royal Caribbean again (but I made the mistake of not registering an account when I sailed them so I'm waiting to see if they can 'find me' to be eligible for past guest pricing).

Do you have any of your old sea pass cards, if so a copy of them will work.

  13. I am going to buy the $12 float strap for the thing. It is interesting that the camera will apparently sink if you let go of it in the water and Olympus does not clearly tell you this in the literature.

    DON

Oh it will sink, they all will in fact the Olympus has a little weight to it compared to my old Cannon. I personally didn't like the float strap but loved the old Cannon trap that kind of locked around your wrist. I took it off and put it on time Olympus. :-)

  14. I just booked a "Large Ocean View" cabin on RCCL's Grandeur of the Seas, sailing from Baltimore, on 1/3/17, for 11 nights to St. Thomas, St. Johns, St. Lucia, and St. Maarten.

    $1352.50 + port taxes/fees of $109.87.

It's supposed to be a bit less for an Oceanview Guarantee but the web site is not pricing it correctly when following through to book it, and the RCCL agent couldn't get anything to price correctly either, so they'll be looking into it Monday.

I have seen many times the guarantee fare is not available to a solo in the cabin on RCCL.

  15. Holland America Oosterdam, 12 days, June 17 from Venice to Rome, $874 gty inside or $936 pick your cabin. Also $999 oceanview or pickable obstructed for same price but I only saw one available on the deck plan (4117) so it might be almost sold out.

Continue for another 12 days on the Oosterdam from Rome to Barcelona. $999 gty inside or $1061 pickable, or oceanview for $1124 (gty or select your own obstructed).

That would be great staying on both, need to be retired
