  1. I agree.

We were told onboard this is not possible because they cannot wait until then to cancel if they do not get take up, their suppliers need longer notice

That's interesting. I wonder if that is a policy that is going to be enacted through-out the cruise industry? We have been on all the main-stream cruise lines, and many others over the past 45 years, and have never had that as an issue! So many people select an excursion after they are on-board, so if it is now going to be the only option to book and pay before boarding on all excursions and lines, won't people just turn to doing their own thing, and not use the cruise-line's program? It doesn't seem to be the economical thing to do for the cruise-lines. Unless they just intend to eventually get rid of land excursions all-together?

  2. Can I please have peoples views on whether the $398 LCV upgrade offer is considered to be worthwhile.

We are currently in a Balcony Stateroom on Deck 7 so presumably any upgrade would be to a Club Continent Suite on Deck 8.

Those suites appear to suffer, to varying degrees, from noise from the deck above and soot.

Opinions on the value of the upgrade in this situation would be welcome please.

Absolutely is worth it! We just came off a cruise where we accepted the offer to an N1, Continental Club Suite, on Deck 8. The cabin was so worth it, along with the added amenities. We paid $199 each for a room 50% larger, as many specialty restaurant meals as we wanted, laundry, internet, phenomenal butler service, etc! I've enjoyed our balcony cabins in the past, but this was awesome!

  3. Thank you - will look out for your review. No specific questions.

We end a cruise in Colombo early next march and have booked a 9 night independent land tour to Kandy and Habarana with the last 3 nights in Negombo. We also hope to go out up to a week earlier in 2018 and are probably looking at staying in The Mount Lavinia Hotel for some time prior to the cruise, with a rest night in Negombo and possibly heading for hill country for a couple of nights before that.

You have an exciting and full itinerary! I'm sure you will have an ideal and awesome time! It sounds like you do quite an intense research prior to travel, which always increases the value of your experience. Look forward to any review you may write after your trips(or blog while you travel?)

I'll try to write a review that touches on the most memorable points of our trip(and any major things that may be something to be aware of-both negative and positive)

  4. Use of the machines is free. You only pay if you send clothes to the laundry.

    Jane Forums[/url]

Is this also the same on the Explorer? We'll be on for 30days, and obviously can not take clothes for that long, so will need to wash several times! Thank you.

  5. We went for it and booked the cruise late yesterday. It is not until February 2018, so will do a more thorough search nearer to the time, but will follow your links and bookmark this thread. Our main preferences are mainly to get a 'feel' for different countries, so is more about just experiencing different cultures etc. and seeing any obvious tourist sites - historic things etc.

Three days in Dubai, means we will be able to go out at night - we always think cruises can be a big problem when you have to get back on the ship in the early evening. We often like to go out for an evening meal when we get chance to do so from a cruise, but we will need to watch prices as it is a 31 night cruise and we hope to spend a week in Sri Lanka before we get on the ship.

    Barbara

Hi Barbara. Since your cruise isn't until 2018, maybe I can help some in a review when we return from ours, in Oct, 2016? Ports of Dubai(31/2 days), AbuDabi, Muscat and Khasab also. I plan to do a review upon on our return. If you can give me specific questions, I'll try to make my notes address some of your issues, if you think that will help you plan.

You should like Sri Lanka, also. It is an interesting place! Connie

  6. I know I'm interjecting into another's question, and I hope that's acceptable! I want to thank you for the information for us too, Bonnie! We had only made the original booking 2 weeks before the new promo came out, so it wasn't that we had switched once already, so I think we fell into that "..promotional offer not combinable with original..." For future reference, do you know if to be eligible for Best Price Guarantee offer you need to request it upon making your original booking? We did not ask when we originally booked. Thank you.

    Hello nyfeds,

I'm told you should be eligible to switch promotions under our Best Price Guarantee (available in North America markets.) You must submit the form.

One caveat might be if you've already switched promotions on this booking? I see under the terms & conditions: "Azamara Club Cruises’ Best Price Guarantee is limited to one (1) Claim Form per cruise booking."

    https://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/plan/best-price-guarantee

  7. We had that exact same experience. We booked at one price, with certain perks. 2 weeks later, new promo came out, and price went down, but we had to cancel and re-book to get the better offer!(our TA absorbed the cancel fees:-))! Good luck, 'cuz I am aware they do it both ways...don't know the criteria tho.

We booked our Azmara cruise for Feb. 2018 some time ago. New perks have since been added to that sailing. We contacted our TA who told us we could avail ourselves of the added perks if we cancelled the booking and made a new booking.

I was under the impression that Azmara honors new perks to an existing reservation without re-booking and penalty ($50 per person to cancel). Perhaps I have been misinformed.

I think it stands to reason that new perks will be added along the way, as we booked so far out. I would appreciate information in regard to adding those perks along the way without re-booking and penalties.

    Thanks.

    Denise

  8. Andy,

Congratulations on your new position! Wish you the best!

You will be missed. So many members have been able to take advantage of your thoughtful and experienced advice, and I am one who has and am grateful to have had the opportunity! Enjoy your new challenge! Connie

  9. We were last in Casablanca in Fall of 2015(4th time, but not by choice)(I have not been there as many times, nor over as long a period as buchhalm; we saw tourists a few feet infront of us have their backpacks pulled off their backs while taking pictures, and experienced a few minor things ourselves, but hearing his colleague stories is scary!I certainly don't want to encourage someone to go there and then they have problems!!) It is a basic large city. It does not have the charm of Marrakech, Fez, etc. Our opinion is that there are 3 tourist things to see; with the Mosque being number 1, "Ricks" bar(Humphey Bogart), and the Medina. Go by taxi only.

If you have 15 hours, I would try to go to Rabat. You can still see the Mosque in Casablanca. Or Marrakech(about 3hours one way), the trip there is beautiful, so it shouldn't be a boring trip there, but the trip back will be the same scenery and probably dark by then. Yes, it is a tour with a guide whom you need to stay with, but it didn't feel like a "sales" tour to us. Our guide took us to the souks, but simply walked us through so we could have the experience. You will have to "put up with" a carpet vendor spiel with local drinks, but we all told our guide we did not want to spend our time in sales pitches. He did ask and alloted more time to the requests of the majority of our group. This trip IS a long time on the bus, so you do need to think of that.

    Safe and fun travels!

  10. Thank you again for your response! I don't know why I feel so nervous about this port! I really appreciate the time you took to give details about your past visits here. We are not scheduled to do this trip till next year but it's the one port that has me a bit hesitant and fascinated with at the same time.

You're very welcome:)! Don't hesitate to see it; just be cautious, and try to absorb the culture! Morocco is one of those countries, like India, where the sights, smells and atmosphere are so enticing , they stay with you forever!

  11. Thank you for the response! We are pretty adventurous travelers. While doing my research I have found a few comments mentioning safety. Did you have any safety concerns in either Casablanca or Marrakech or while traveling from each place?

These are my thoughts, experiences, and suggestions: I do not want to frighten you from doing anything in these places, because they are exotic, colorful, exciting and even charming:-) Definitely worth experiencing!

Overall, of the 4 times I've been there, I was more cautious than I am in most large cities. By that I mean, I kept my money/credit cards and passport info hidden.

I would be even more diligent though, by not wearing or carrying anything really valuable (unless you have no choice) Also suggest to be very aware of your surroundings, as we did witness drive-by motorscooters grab the bags of tourists in front of us who were taking pictures, therefore they were not focused on their surroundings! We also experienced pick-pockets in the Souks; con-men and girls trying to get us to "come with me, your friend has been hurt and I will take you to him/her", etc. It's colorful and an exciting adventure if you basically just accept that is the way of life of many, and don't fall for any "cons"; don't let yourself get too far removed from the mainstream(we are travelers who walk to everything on our own, and explore back-roads and alleys...do not do that here!) I, as a woman, was very uncomfortable going anywhere without a man. I know women travel all over there alone, but I know it is a risk. We met 4 women traveling together, and they ended up asking to tour with us, because they were too uncomfortable without a male in their group.

Since you are adventurous travelers, you know what to do and not do, so I'm sure you will be fine following basic cautionary "rules"! Have a great trip:)

  12. We are looking at a cruise that stops in Casablanca. There is an excursion to Marrakech. How safe is it in Casablanca and traveling through Morocco? I've read there's not a lot to do or see in Casablanca . I'm concerned about the three hour (each way) excursion to Marrakech. Can anyone share their insight or experience? It's a long port day from early morning to 10pm. Thanks-Kade

Hi Kade. Obviously not knowing your interests, 'attention tolerance', or activity levels, this is not a suggestion, only statements and opinions from our experiences:-)

Casablanca: the Mosque is the most beautiful in Morocco; the old Medina is interesting and fun; and most people have to go to "Rick's" bar of movie fame,(Humphrey Bogart) just to say they've been there.

Marrakech: This is a very interesting city, busy and colorful. More what tourists are looking for in Morocco. BUT it is a 3 hour bus ride(if you don't run into issues(which normally you do). The trip there is beautiful scenery, but coming back, it is the same scenery and it will probably be dark.

Hope this helps in making a decision. We felt we HAD to see Marrakech the first time we were there, but the next time, we stayed in Casablanca. It was fine both times:)

  13. I am sorry it has taken me so long but here is the updated spreadsheet.

A small plea, if you want to ask others about a particular cabin do it on a main (non sticky) thread so we can keep this thread easy for people to find information about specific cabins

    Ann

Thank you Ann, for your time and effort! It is most appreciated:-)

  14. We're booked to go on Journey next October. I booked at the Cruise Show in February using my Open Passage plus an extra £200 for a deposit. I'm thinking about bringing our cruise forward to May next year (different itinerary) but not sure if they'll let me. Has anyone done/tried this before and what happened?

    Any info greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if their policies are the same, but last year we had our travel agent change a cruise for us before our final payment was due. She had no problem, but Azamara charged $25 USD per person. Our TA picked up the charge for us though:) Good luck!

  15. We are considering taking this cruise in November as we would love to see some of India.

We are thinking of booking a Club Continent Suite - anyone who has recently been on board - please enlighten me as to your thoughts

Would welcome and appreciate all views and recommendations

Hi Kidson: We are taking the cruise just before you, and this will be #4 on Az.(we are expecting to enjoy this one as much as the others) We cruised before the refurb and again this year, shortly after the refurb.

I agree with every poster that has responded so far!:-) So why am I adding another 2 cents? Possibly similar info, but maybe from a different perspective?

We were in a Club Continent Suite-a wonderful experience!(we normally cruise in verandas.) Cabin is a nice size, beautiful decor and extra amenities were well used! Butler was phenomenal! Since the specialty restaurants were complimentary for as many times as you wished, we reserved both an equal number, and were not disappointed in either...food, service, atmosphere.

This is our 77th cruise over the years, and Azamara is one of our favorites! It's hard to find a line where every category has satisfied us with above average to superior distinction!

Much of it starts with a positive and flexible attitude, and a desire to enjoy your experiences as they occur. Have some wonderful experiences on your cruise! Azamara will provide you with every opportunity to do so:)

Bonnie: Thx for providing the link!

  16. I see someone else says they had no GF buns. I'm sorry they did not find them on board, but on our March, 2016, cruise, Journey DID have both hot-dog and hamburger buns. You have to request GF from the grill chef when you place your order. I hope Azamara hasn't stopped supplying them! We will be on Journey again in October, and we will certainly find out if they stopped carrying them.

Also, it is still a good idea to take some GF snacks for day trips on shore.

  17. Magwun: October is so unpredictable! Been to Med in October(both first part and last part)for past 3 years, and experienced cool weather to shorts weather.I found taking light layers worked for me. I would take(or wear)a sweater,& a light raincoat too. My travel pants(zip off legs)gave me options. For my 2 week trip last year I took my travel pants for day, dressy slacks for dinners, roll up skirt that can also be worn as dress with a cropped jacket(denim), 3 t's(1 long sleeve),1 dressier top, wore comfortable jeans, a T,hoodie sweater and heaviest shoes. I also brought several scarves to change the look, and a shawl(wrap to wear over anything if it's cool,or A/C strong, ). For late Oct, I also took a silkie liner to wear under everything without the weight or bulk. Hope this gives you some ideas!

Rachel, just like Michigan too, lol. I know it's a futile effort. I never seem to have the right things with me when I go on vacation.
  18. I've tried answering goofysmom99 GF questions, but I can't seem to post it as a quote plus answers? I'll try as new post:

Yes, they have buns, pizza and Soy sauce, and pasta. Yes they have GF desserts(even GF scones)

  19. Thank you so much for such a quick reply. What about coach? Any information about it? Also, do they have premium economy and if they do, is it worth the extra $? My main concerns though are safety, comfort and connecting airport in Istambul. We never flew through it and not sure how the connections there work. Thanks again. Helen.

Flew them last month in coach round-trip between USA and Uzbekistan. They provide in coach what US airlines provide in premium or plus. Food, leg room on long and short legs of flight. Only issue, like previous poster mentioned, is the long layover in Istanbul! That was concerning for the security/safety issue of being there so long. They do have a priority lounge(nice place to spend our 11 hour layover!) that we purchased at the airport(I believe it was about $35-40USD for the day), that anyone can purchase.

  20. I love that comment on the loss of 'powers of attraction'! :DI needed the laugh today! Thx!!

As for the shower curtain, that is certainly an interesting approach. Personally, unlike others, I have never had problems with a "clingy" curtain on board, but that may reflect that, generally, I notice my body simply seems to not hold the same attractive powers that it used to have. :)

    Have a great cruise!

  21. I notice that due to the current refit, the e connections room, on Deck 9 housing 16 p.c.'s for passenger use, is to be changed, into a room for enhancing facilities for the spa services.

I do not wish to bring my laptop on board.

Does anyone know where the e connections room is to be relocated to please. If there is not to be an e connections 'room', where are the p.c.'s for guest use, to be relocated?

Hi Margaret. Starboard side of Card Room, by Living Room, is 'IN Touch'. This is the current internet space. 4 computers available. Hope this helps.

  22. I've found if I lay my linen shirts and pants across the suitcase, then layer rolled-up knits on top of them, then wrap the arms and legs of my linens over the rolled up knits(like a bundle)reduces the wrinkles tremendously! Whatever wrinkles may be left, I use my travel size Wrinkle Release:-) Works well for me.

For me the lack of an iron is big problem. On the first day I always have to iron items that have got creased in the case, especially linen shirts and trousers.

  23. Just off the Journey as well. We were in 8046 and heard more noise than we did on our first two cruises but nothing that interrupted our sleeping. We booked the same room again.

We were in cabin 8044 in Feb, 2016, near a service hallway, but no noise issue. Maybe after so many cruises, I've learned how to be oblivious to extraneous noises, but we heard nothing during sleep that awakened us or kept us from sleeping! It was truly a relaxing and enjoyable trip! We loved the new changes, and have booked another cruise this Fall.:)

  24. If you still have your review handy, you might post it here as a new thread. IME there are people who only read the reviews section and others who only read the boards.

Thx, Jazz. Unfortunately, I wrote it on the site, with no copy. Maybe I'll learn for the next one:-) It still isn't showing up in the reviews, so maybe one of these days I'll write it again, but it won't be as fresh in my mind as it was the day after we returned.

It was all good to great, though: People, ship, service, food, entertainment.

    Special people: Ronald-butler; Alan-Aqualina; Viktor-Prime C; Laze-Asst Specialty Mgr; Joe-Windows Café

If it all comes back to me, I'll put it into a new thread as Jazz suggested
