  1. A discount broker like TD Ameritrade would be best...

    BUT

If you are asking this question, you are a neophyte. Before buying any stock do some research... talk to family and friends... get some basic information on investing. Make sure that you can afford to invest and that you won't need the money in a month or two. After doing that, you will be ready to begin a fun journey.

    Happy investing!

Agree with this. DW and I own stock in both CCL and RCI. However it is an investment for us, along with some other stocks. I would not buy 100 shares just to get $100 OBC each time I cruised.

  2. And no-one complained to Guest Services and/or the Cruise Director??

Everyone just put up with the inconvenience??

Has the Police State mentality finally arrived?

    .

DW and I did comment to our Room Steward and to Guest Services about the temps. We even mentioned this is our survey, so there goes your theory. Just didn't seem necessary to mention when I made the earlier post.

  3. We have no problems with the Triumph and would sail her again at any time.

    Doug

he only problem DW and I had on the Triumph was the temperature. That is the coldest ship we have ever sailed on. We went the last of May when we sailed her, and the whole ship, every inside venue, was extremely cold.

  4. [QUOTE=Tapi;41578961]Price is not negotiable, but there are some fare codes that are not available by booking online and you must book through a live person who can verify eligibility. This is a HUGE reason why we book through a PVP. I qualify for a fare code not available on the website. It's consistently cheaper than website prices, several times hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Keep in mind that it's not like a PVP has access to exclusive discounts not found anywhere else. Pretty much any rate that your PVP quotes, anybody else can offer you as well. The BIG difference between a GREAT PVP and everyone else is the experience and knowledge necessary to dig, find, and offer these fare codes which sometimes are buried in the system.

The Carnival reps that you get just by calling the 800 number can see rates that you can't see. This week I called and upgraded my cabin to a Spa Balcony and the girl could give me much better rates than what I could see online. She checked probably 4 different rates where I could only see 2 available to me online. She then gave me the best deal. She was really great about comparing everything and making sure I got the best deal on my upgrade. I ended up only paying an additional $2.52 to upgrade from an aft balcony to a Spa Balcony. :)

Next cruise I book through our PVP, I will ask if there is a different rate than what I see online. Used the same PVP for 8 years, and he has never booked us at a rate better than what I see online. We'll see.

  5. You would never know it by looking at many of the crew on our recent Splendor cruise. We commented several times that many of the crew members never smiled or looked the least bit interested in being there.

DW and I have sailed 23 times and have never noticed many of the crew looking like they had rather be somewhere else. To the contrary, on all our cruises, the crew seemed overwhelmingly friendly and always appeared to have a smile. Now as for the passengers we have not always noticed the same attitude.

  6. They did provide decent customer service, and the maintance guy was fairly prompt. It was just plain annoying that we had to call daily, sometimes twice a day, to ask for maintance.

Overall, my mom and I did have a good time. Our patience was wearing thin. Hopefully, my cruise on the breeze will be better.

Glad you still had an overall good time. I guess I'm different than most of the posters who say the toilet issue was not that big of a deal. When I go on vacation (hotel or cruise) I expect things in the room to work properly when trying to use, shower, sink, and/or toilet. Now if they don't, just like you I'll contact the front desk. Now if I had to call every day (sometimes 2 time) just to flush the toilet, that becomes a big deal to me. I surely do not want to get up at night, leave my room, and look for a public restroom.

Glad CCL offered compensation, which is the least they should have done.

BTW, CCL has too many good ships that hardly ever have issues like Sunshine, so DW and I will stick to them.

  7. Not sure why you sellected the verb LYING. But you should look up why you put the hand on the bible "to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

Yup. Never read one story about the 1 to 2 hour down time, or the cause. On a ship that allegedly was upgraded with all those high tech promises.

It appears some don't want to hear the whole story, or wish none of it was reported, as they are not interesdted in their safety.

As I was not on this ship when the incident happened, I will believe the stories of those who were. Also, I for one am glad CCL did report the incident.

  8. If I were choosing between those I'd pick the Splendor. It's the only one of those listed with a Cloud 9 spa. We have fallen in love with the spa amenities. I haven't been on that ship, only others with the spa.

If you aren't interested in the spa at all, then I'd choose the Liberty. We've sailed on her twice, and when not considering the spa, she's our favorite ship.

DW and I also prefer Liberty to the others listed, but Liberty is not one of their options. They are trying to decide between Glory, Conquest, and Splendor.

Op said they just got off the Liberty.

  9. The NTSB has completed their investigation of the Triumph breaking free of it's moorings here in Mobile back in April. They have determined that the cause was the failure of the bollards that the ship was tied to and that BAE was aware of the problem. It looks like BAE is going to be reimbursing Carnival for the damage to the Triumph and the other ships that she hit. Here is the article from our local news. http://www.wkrg.com/story/24630529/ntsb-completes-triumph-investigation

Contrary to some posters here, most off us felt all along that this was not the fault of CCL. This ship has had issues, but we still would sail her under the right circumstances.

  10. I think the CDs are important. Who would schedule all the activities, who would supervise the entertainment staff. They are the public face for the Captain, he doesn't have time to address all the silly complaints that people have during the course of the cruise. And more importantly, in the case of an emergency it's his voice that you are going to hear on the PA system.

I admit, that after 31 cruises I don't really "need" a cruise director keeping me informed....I rarely go to production shows and I even more rarely have to interact with the CD.........but I'm not a newbie cruiser.......if I were to ever sail with another cruise line (which is highly unlikely), I would look to the cruise director and his staff to help me learn how things are done on that ship.

I would be happy with Caribbean style music being more predominant on the Lido deck.......especially on embarkation day........but I don't think the Steel Drum's are coming back and it's just beating a dead horse to keep bringing them up.

  11. No downside, unless you like to be forced to eat with the same people (that you may or not may have anything in common with) every night, and if you like being forced to eat at the same exact time whether you're hungry or not. Also if you live for the dancing wait staff at the end of dinner, Your time dining may not be for you as their performances are tied to traditional dining times.

The dancing waiters was neat in the beginning, but now DW and I always finish and leave prior to this.

  12. Arrived around 10. Just late enough to put a kink in the travel plans...rebooking flights now!

Oh my, but that does happen on Fascination from time to time. Sailed her 5 times and either embarked and/or debarked late on 3 of those.

BTW, hope all goes well with your flights.

    Welcome to cruise critic.:D

  13. if my shower didn't work my first thought would have been to go to the spa and use the ones there. would have been an inconvenient but would have worked.

I find this hilarious. When I go on vacation, hotel or cruise ship, I go with expectations that the plumbing will work. If not, my first thought would be to have it fixed. Sure, I could go to the spa to shower, but that would never be my 1st thought. Instead, that would be my last resort.

  14. To me, that would be disingenous. Why not report the facts. They will eventully come up. They shouldn't always have to be corrected in their press releases.

Give it up, surely you can find something better to comment against your despised CCL, especially since those on the ship during the event agree with CCL.
